get the vqf-plugin to winamp.. set the output to discwriter.. that way you can record to wave-files and then burn them to cd audio..
WAV TO MIDI
I need your help !!!
I want a program that can make a conversion from WAV file to MIDI file and then to show me on the screen the music notation.
There are few programs!
There are few programs that convert WAV -> MIDI,
but you might not like the results of the conversions. You can try these:
Widi
Amazing Midi
Sry don't have links at the moment.

: : Never mind all that; here's the definitive answer to your question -
FORGET IT... IT CANNOT BE DONE!
Re: WAV TO MIDI
It's not really that impossible.. I had a program for some time ago that converted monophonic wave data to midi-files I cannot remember what is was called.. it could have been something like digital ear or something.. not sure at all..
Re: WAV TO MIDI
It's highly unlikely that there is such a prog out there for lazy musicians. If you really need to convert from wav to midi, you could do it this way (although reeeally difficult, i'd guess):
1-Download a wav-tuner (Maz soundpage)
2-Analyse different segments of the wav to see how far off from C they are and take a lot of notes.
3-Start up yer sequenser and stuff it all together and you (might) end up with something like the original.
Why is there no wav-to-midi program?
Simply because it is difficult/impossible to make a program that would analyse a wav file of for example Nirvanas "Nevermind" is that you have, say 4 or 5 different instruments playing different chords and noises from cymbals and hi-hats and such. An interpreter would have serious diffeculty finding out which instrument is which, what is noise and what is music etc. and would probably result in something sounding a bit more like songs i made seven yrs ago.
In other words
-Buy the album or download the MP3, or
-buy a book (don't know the english word here) with all the notations from the album/tracks you want to have midified, or (if it's your own wavs your working with)
-just compose directly in a sequencer....

Re: Converting Real Audio to wav
With some soundcards you can record the output to wav with cool edit or similar softwares. Just play the Real Audio file and record it, if your card can do it. I've done that with a few internet broadcasts and .asf files and it worked fine, plus you can even use some plugins to fix the audio quality.

how to interface my Keyboard to a PC
I just bought a MIDI controller Keyboard and I have a a Windows 98 PC. I also have a cable to connect them. I would like to record my music as a MIDI file onto a PC. What all software and Hardware I need for this. Detailed instructions would be welcome.
Thanks,
Mike
After installing VST 3.7 Winamp and Real Audio Player don't work
A few days ago, I installed Cubase VST 3.7 for the PC (running Windows 98)for the very first time. All seemed to go well and I tried out the demo song (including using the midi channels) to see everything worked - which it did.
However when I came to play an mp3 file using Winamp, my computer just hung and I had to reboot. On closer inspection after opening up Control Panel/System/Device Manager, I've noticed that under Other Devices, the PCI Multimedia Audio Device has got a little '!' (exclamation mark) beside it. When selecting it's properties and the Resources tab, it says:
'This device isn't using any resources because it is not currently enabled or has a problem. If you want to assign resources manually for this device, click Set Configuration Manually.'
Can someone tell me what is going wrong here and what I need to do to fix it.
Many thanks in advance from a desparate beginner Cubase User.
Real sounding drums!?!?
I am in the midst of recording demos on my system. For the style of music I'm writing I really need a big live drum sound, as if I had a live drummer in the studio with me (in my dreams!). What software and sample sets would best suit my needs?
All help appreciated!
Thanks
Silence
Re: Real sounding drums!?!?
: I have tried several programs and have not had much luck. Recently, I downloaded DRUMS! from somewhere. Try a search. Sorry I don't have the link. The sounds are really good. I have not played around enough to know how to use it well. The interface seemed kinda weird. I think once you figure out how to use it the sound will be pretty good.
Good luck.
Guitar based recording
This is a toptastic site - all I need now is some advice, guys!
What I need - some software
What do I want it to do - to bring my songs to life.
Outline...
I have written the songs in my head, on paper and on my acoustic guitar.
Ideally, I would like to be able to record my voice, my electric bass (through a PC line in?) and acoustic (through a PC mike?) and then add drums, bass and effects through the PC.
I guess I need something like a PC-based portastudio?
Also, is there a way of telling the software to play an Am7 (for example) and specify the guitar sound?
Will the software also write the tab for me?
I don't ask for much!
Any ideas, please let me know!

for guitar...
i dont know about cakewalk guitar studio since i own a mac.As a guitarist though i shoud be of some help. The standard mic for recording guitars is the sure sm-57 youll want one of these theyre real cheap used.for high quality vocals though youll want to spend a little dough and get a better mic.
now, what software?well go to www.digidesign.com and download pro tools free, itll make a porta studio look silly.Or else theres the digi 001 package.also the check out www.steinberg.net and download the cubase demo.cubase is the most well rounded software available, i reccomend it.
how do you get the mic sounds in a p.c? get a sound card.this isnt my forte so ask around about soundcards.i got the digi 001 package and i love it.im also gonna get logic audio though to suplement the midi and cause i crave vst instruments.
your first line of action should be to download pro tools free. then figure out if you can get a crappy mic into your pc and presto.then look around for soundcards and see what your needs are.then check out cakewalks guitar studio, or just bone up and get cubase.
check out harmony central for more info. to make interesting recordings you need a lotta sounds-get a pod.for good sounding recordingsa youll need a descent mic(sm-57), an interface/package(motu 2804/digi 001/delta 1010/layla 24.preamp to power the mic(s) and a pair of monitors, plus a good reverb etc etc.
for your immediate needs cakewalk guitar studio should help(i guess), but do down load pt free, and try to get a decent mic into your computer(again you may need a pre amp and
i/o to do this).unless you have a killer amp get the pod or a j-station.also with the roland gr-33/g-2 guitar synth you can do midi stuff and use software synths with your axe,and if doing that id get cubase and a midi adapter.
good luck,
robert
Re: Guitar based recording
Hi there
OK, I'll mention two downloads that should get you started.
n-Track Studio is a multi-track suite that will handle effects, plug-ins and MIDI.
And there's Cakewalk Guitar Studio.
You'll find other decent downloads in the Guitar software section of this site.
Cheers

Dude, ReBirth is a software synth, not a sequencer. You can make music with Rebirth (with the sounds it already has and its interface) but not import your own, for that you will need a software sequencer like Steinberg Cubase.
Re: Help with Rebirth RB-338 2.0
Remaker is a link between rebirth and midi..

I can't get my xp-80 to recognize MIDI program
Hi, I just bought a brand new Xp-80 and this is the first time I'm dealing with a Workstation. My main problem is that my keyboard can't recognize the sounds I programmed for it. For example, I create a MIDI file with Cakewalk and I'm using Strings, Piano and Bass, and that plays nice in the computer, when I get the disk and put in my xp-80, instead of using my instruments, he starts playing with the performance sounds that was select, for example if there was a Pop Set 1, he plays piano, bass, guitar, etc. And the most incredible things is that even the Midi files I create with the keyboard don't keep the instrument configuration and the SVQ files don't. I don't know what is going on, but is a way to boring to be setting all the instruments again when I want to play the midi file in the keyboard. Is there anyone who could help me please? I read the manual 10.000 times and they say nothing about. My e-mail is jorge_andrade20@hotmail.com, thanks for your help
Re: I can't get my xp-80 to recognize MIDI program
Now, that's a question that I,ve been asking around ? I have also that problem, I,ve been going thru' FAQs and places such as this. Still no answer, We might be on the wrong track about the asking this question but I think there should be a way?
Hope you get your answers ?
I suggest you go to
www.rolandus.com/
It,s the site to all the questions, and if you're
eager enough about it why don't you go to
www.altavista.com/ and search/find for : Roland XP-80 or XP-80 sites
you'll find all the things about the XP-80.

Re: How do I convert CDs to MP3
Hi
Two programs for you to check out.
CDex or MusicMatch Jukebox. If you're totally new to this, I'd recommend Jukebox. If you read the documentation that comes with the program, you'll be making MP3s in no time at all.

Best CD software for transcribing music?
I'm accustomed to using a tape recorder when I transcribe music for my band. With this I can play the same measure as many times as needed (without going back to the top of the tune each time) and listen to quick or busy sections at half speed. Which of the Windows 98 players could emulate this process the closest?
is there a program........?
Is there a program which will easily let me take a MIDI file (freely composed) and then impose upon it the beats/bar lines where they should be placed. I have some MIDI performances which were not created with a click track, but I would like to have them properly notated without having to transcribe all the notation by ear. Thanks. - CM

You might want to load the midi into a sequener program and quantize it first then print it out with a notation program.

Music Software for Lyrics and Guitar Chords
Does anybody know if there a simple music software (free download if possible)where one can write lirics with guitar chords (A7, Em, D#m, C9add, etc.) and has real usefull music note symbols that can be inserted (whole, half, quarters, silences, etc.)(not like the ones in words ASCII)? Or at least one with fonts for music symbols.
Right now Iam using Word documents with forced symbols (made by myself in powerpoint), and chords to write songs, but sometimes it is too cumbersome for some songs with elaboradted arrangements.
