Nope...thanks but that's not what I'm looking for. Interesting software though. I need to be able to record audio from voice and guitar/bass. I want to use the software I have and understand the external signal chain, software settings, mechanics, terminology (VST, DirectX), compatabilities, etc.
I've used a computer for just about everything but music in the past. So, right now I'm just getting my feet wet. (Took me awhile to understand why I was getting the MIDI tracks along with my live bass track during each take the other night)
Making the move from newbie to beginner.....

record the same on 3+4 (to double track the vocal) then,

Cant you simply use the mixdown facility? This will mix your four tracks to two stereo tracks and create a new track with the final result. After having done this you can delete the original tracks if you want.

CueBase Play back problems
Can anyone help me.
I'm having problems playing back multiple tracks out of
CueBase VST. The data skips and stutters out of time.
I know that the program is recording the file correctly,
because if I play it back in soundForge for example,
audio integrety is maintained.
The file seems to screw up whenever the program reads it
from the hard drive, which leads me to conclude that
it may be a program conflict.

If you are using audio tracks you may not have enough memory. You can optimise your audio by going into the options menu select audio set-up and system. You can reduce the number of channels and increase your buffer size. Also you can change your multidriver. This might help. You can also look in help under optimising audio for more tips. I hope this helps you.

Tim, you will need to burn using DAO (disk-at-once). Burning a CD-R in this method allows you to eliminate the silence or gaps between your tracks.
All you need to have is your mix divided into tracks of the length and number you want and CD burning software that supports DAO burning. <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/news/492">See Here</a> for CD burning software that supports DAO, or ask the developer of your CD burning software if it is supported.
I recommend <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Nero_win32/">Nero Burning ROM</a>

Digitizing Grammaphone records
I have an old cabinet HMV Grammaphone and a multitude of records. I have no doubt that these records are not going to last very long if I keep playing them in the Grammaphone.
Therefore, I would rather have them recorded to WAV for storage or possible conversion to MP3. My first guess was to record via a microphone directly to my PC. Anyone know the best method in regards to positioning the microphone, sample rate etc.?
Give me your ideas even if you think you don't really know :)

Hi
You'll need an audio editor such as <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Cool_Edit_2k/">Cool Edit 2000</a> to cut the songs up and re-arrange them. Then you'll need CD Burning software. You'll find a few good downloads in our <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/top20/">Top 20</a> downloads.

Why do I see so many msg's about converting MP3 to wave?
Why does a person want to convert MP3 to wave. I have a ton of MP3's in my hard drive library. Does it have to do with creating music? What is the purpose of this?

The main reason an MP3 is decoded is for compatibility with editing and CD burning software that only support WAV or AIFF formats.
Decoding an MP3 to WAV does not necessarily improve the quality of the audio, but it would allow you to use audio restoration software on the WAV file.
Most CD burning software released now include support for direct MP3 to CD audio, meaning decoding is done by the burning software in one process.

I had to do this today. I downloaded a cool loop. I wanted to slice it into pieces with sound forge and arrange the pieces in ACID. The sample was in MP3 format. Neither Sound Forge or ACID would let me open the file. I had to use mp3 Convert_it first to get the sample into a wave format. There are several sofware programs available on this board under format convertors.
New compositionist..Need the basics for starting
I want to write music on my CASIO CTK-518 keyboard and feed to the computer. I bought "Cakewalk Music Creator". It won't record anything..not even when I use the virtual piano. I'm waiting to hear from tech support on the matter. I'm thinking I will likely need lots of software. Suggestions are wanted. I have a DELL Optiplex GX110. 256 MB RAM. Pentium III 866 MHZ. 40 GB hard drive. None of that means much to me. I don't know a lot about PC's. Also, I would like suggestions for the right kind of microphone for vocals. Here's the deal. I have a short track that I want to be continuously looped, and then I have another track of the words. I want the first track, the beat, to be looped continuously and then play the second track, the words, and then record the entire thing to one file. How can I do that?

Cool Edit Pro has an add-on program called "Studio" that allows you to lay down a .wav file or any other sound file on one track and then add your word sample for instance anywhere in the program on another track and a 3rd 4th etc. and then record the whole thing as a .wav or mp3 or whatever file

is there a software that will convert music from a CD or minidisc and write sheet music notation?

Hi Meg,
I believe if you do a search here on Shareware Music Machine, you'll find a few programs that attempt to convert audio into MIDI data, which can then be translated into notation. But for the most part, this is not really possible.

Vinyl restoration software
Does anyone have an opinion on which software is best for de-clicking vinyl records before tranferring them to CD? Thanks!!!

Groove Mechanic seems to me to be the best value for money, also worth trying is Depopper. I also use Audiotools for recording to hard disc and then the OEM included version of Easy CD Creator for burning to CD. Hope this helps,

Also, although a bit expensive, I believe you'll find that Noise Reduction from Sonic Foundry (www.sonicfoundry.com) is one of the best tools for the job.
