Re: how do you download music onto cd's

Not sure which you are asking, so;

To record music from CD to computer you will require CD ripping software.

To put your music files onto CD:
Do you have a CD Writer drive (hardware)? You'll need one.
Do you have CD burning software? You'll need one of these too.

Napster will get you the MP3 files and Winamp will decode them to WAV format.

If you want to burn these CDs to play in your car or other non-computer CD player, make sure you are burning only CD-Rs not CD-RWs (re-writable discs).

wehn i go to put a winamp file onto a cds track list it says it needs to be a wav file. how can i convert winamp files into wav files.

Re: how do you download music onto cd's

put the cd in drive , open the winamp , select the disk writer plug in preferences and play the cd , it creates the .wav files on your hard disk , then u can use mp3 converter (bladeenc is a freeware) to make WAV to Mp3

redirect soundcard to hear playback and recording

I do not have a full duplex soundcard. Do I have to have one in order to hear what I am playing and recording at the same time? I heard somewhere that you can redirect the playback and recording sounds so you can here what you are recording while listening to what is being played back. please let me know thanx

u really need a full duplex!

As far as I know your 'single duplex' - if that's correct terminology - can only process one signal at a time so I can't see a way or redirecting a signal which can't be processed in the first place! Look around this sites software section though esp under 'emulated cards' for someting to help - link near top of board.

convert Tape to CD

I want to convert tape to cd using my computer. I have a cd burner installed on my computer and i have a tape deck. what is the best way to get the output of my tape deck into my computer and onto the cd?

I'm guessing step one is that i need something to convert the singal from my tape deck into a digital signal for input into my computer, right? how do I do that? Is that expensive? I have a thing in the back of my computer that has a little symbol next to it that leads me to believe i might be able to plug the tape deck output into this and use a software package to convert that signal format into digital.

Is the tape deck output an analog signal and is a digital in a binary format?

I don't know what I'm doing. Help. Thanks.

Re: convert Tape to CD

Sounds like you know what you're about so far. There is software designed specifically for recording from analog sources such as Tape and Vinyl. I'll list some below;

What you need is the correct cable to connect tape deck output to computer line-in. Head to your local computer or electronics store if you don't already have something suitable.

Groove Mechanic for Windows 95/98/NT (Shareware)
AIPL Singulator for Windows 95/98/2000/NT (Shareware)

Re: convert Tape to CD

Dear Carly,

I was triggered by this post because i try to record an old tape recording which has a strong "tremble" all-over.

Are there programs that can clean up such an over-all tremble? I tried groove mechanic but that does not help.

I can't get databecker music centre to install

I can't get databeckers music centre to install on my computer. I got a Soundblaster Live card and an old Cakewalk program that came with the Soundblaster Live Platinum package. I suspect there may be a conflict between the two. Is this true? Or how do I install Music Centre otherwise? It's not doing anything; I'm just getting error messages.

Re: I can't get databecker music centre to install

That's the puzzling aspect of the problem. I'm installing it from a cd, but when it didn't work, I took it back to the store, thinking it to be defective. The store people tested it on one of their computers, and it worked. So I took it back to my computer, and it didn't work. I went back to the store and got an exchange after outlining the problem. I took that second cd back to my computer, and it didn't work. Then I had the computer checked out to see if there was anything wrong with it technically. There wasn't. So Data Becker is sending me another cd, but I have a sinking suspicion that that cd won't work, either; in which case, what do I do? Any suggestions, anybody?

strange problem!

Does your setup meet the min system requirments for setup? You usually need a certain ammount of free hard disk space for an installation. Check other sequencer (demos) install OK. If so and they are from downloads maybe there is a problem with the read head of your CD ROM? It could be misalligned? Was this checked out? Again install programs from other CDROMs - available from Magazine front covers. You can try updating your CD ROM driver (from ROM manufacturers web site). Can u link up an external CD ROM or another computer to yours and try to install that way? If it works then your CD ROM is faulty! Try defragmenting your hard drive and a final step would be to reinstall your operating sys (Windows?) which should delete any rogue files which may have come from previous programs and are causing the trouble. Also try installing a downloaded demo of MCP - if it works then CDROM is at fault for sure? If u cannot find an online demo of MCP there is a demo of Quartz Audio Master (the big brother of MCP) here -

http://www.sonicspot.com/quartzaudiomaster/quartzaudiomaster.html

which is very similar.

It may be worth while telling Data Becker what computer u are running including make of CPU and asking them if their is a conflict with their software. Unfortunately programmers usually only test software on a Pentium when in development and so the programs may become incompatable with some specific computer setup - quite rare though and updating various drivers (audio/device) may stop conflict.

good luck eric

steve

Exceptional sequencer stick with it -

Hey Eric I have MCP and it should install no problem atall with any number of other sequencers already on your system.

On what part of the install process is the error message appearing? Are u installing from download or CDROM? If download maybe not all of it downloaded? If ROM u may have a faulty CD there!

steve

That's the puzzling aspect of the problem: I'm installing the program from a cd, but when I couldn't install it, I thought it was defective, so I took it back to the store. But the store people tested the cd on one of their computers and it tested fine. So I took the cd back to my computer, and it didn't work again. So I took the cd back to the store and got it exchanged for another cd anyway. Again, it didn't work. So I got my computer tested to see if there was something technically wrong with it. There wasn't. And I have no idea where to go from there! Is it possible I got two defective cd's? Databecker is sending me another cd, but I have a sinking suspicion that it won't work, either. Any help on this, anybody?

Guitar to SoundBlaster?

Would it be possible(and safe) to connect an acoustic guitar with a piezo (stick-on) pickup - directly into the 'line-in' socket on the front panel(LiveDrive) of my SoundBlaster Live! 1024 Platinum soundcard; in order to input to midi-sequencing software?

safe to plug guitar into soundcard? I think so!

Yes Andrew it is safe and a good idea too! The card u have is a very good one, possiblly the best, and it's line/mic in sockets are designed specifically for guitars, mics, audio jacks etc so go ahead - plug in! One tip - u may have a quiet signal from a direct plug in so it's often best to use a pre amp - a guitar amp will do fine - plug line out from amp to cards line in but keep volumes low at first! If all your powerplugs are earthed it should be quite safe to do this too!

pc-guitar cables

Anybody know where to find a cable that you can plug your guitar into your computer with? I've been looking for one, but can't find it. If you could tell me a site that carries them, or the name of a company that makes them, I'd be grateful.

Thanks,
David

CONVERTING MIDIS TO WAVS ?

Hi,

Can anyone tell me please if it is possible to convert
midi files to wav files. Reason is that I have some
midi files which are average and want to chaneg them to
make them better quality. To make them sound more like
real instead of electronic music !
I have been told that I can
then do this with a program called Soundforge. But that
they have to be wavs to do this.

Any advice appreciated.

Shack

Re: CONVERTING MIDIS TO WAVS ?

: Hi,

: there is a program that i have just purchased over the web for about £19 sterling.
the program is called midi2wav recorder and it is absolutely excellent, take it from someone who's tried all the free download versions and the cracks, get yer hand in yer pocket and i promise you won't regret it.
also, the support service is excellent.
happy converting.

Re: CONVERTING MIDIS TO WAVS ?

I Think you have to use:
WaveMaker III.
You find it on Web.
Bye

Re: CONVERTING MIDIS TO WAVS ?

If u convert midi to wav the result will be identical as it's really just recording the midi audio signal to another file format.

To improve the midi voices u need either a better soundcard or some other midi sound module. A midi file is just data, no more, and it is the soundmodule that craetes the voices by reading this data - so if you get a better soundcard the same midi file should sound much better! Tip - try installing a software soundcard like Yamaha's SY-XG50/100 and u may notice significant improvements.

Re: CONVERTING MIDIS TO WAVS ?

Concept of Midi and Wav is totally different , so even if softwares are there that claims to convert midi to wav correctly but result will not be satisfactory , midi is just recording the notes and musical equipement type not the real sound bytes.

What up dogg

You need to render them in to an udio format. You either need a software extraplolator (called a renderer) or just record your speaker output back into the soundcard.
The renderer is called Audio Compositor or MIDInight Express (both suck and are a pain in the butt), an internal router (like your soundcard's control panel, (route from MIDI player into WAV Editor software) or just a 3$ cable.

I use the cable method, cuz I'm lazy and I spent all my money on my kickass computer.

advice with software

hi,
i won't mess about i'll get straight to it...
i am an experienced musician but a novice to software. i want and need some quality hip hop styles/rythmns ( i have cubase vst and cakewalk)which i can use. beats that i can paste onto one of my programmes.
also i want to (a) know how you acheive the sampling where they take one instrument out of a whole mastered track and with what software you do it. and (b)of you can recommend any scratching.etc, kind of software where it's all vitual snd performed using your pc.
cheers.
you are always very helpful and i would appreciate a personal response to my queries.
thanks
~bret~

Re: advice with software

AnalogX (at analogx.com) makes the scratch program.

www.audiorank will give you all the vinyl samples you need for scratching, as well as all the hiphop beats you couold hope for. If you want to make your own, get a copy of Hammerhead Rhytm Station by Bram Bos and a copy of Goldwave to slap a whole lot of reverb and compression on those cheesy drum sounds.

As for isolating, you need to use a really steady hand and some realtime eq (like in cubase vst mxer strip), or use outboard gear:
you must have:
(1) a copy of the music WITHOUT the part you want. Invert the polarity, mix into the part you want and Voila: only the part you want is left.

PS stop sampling and just build build build new....

I have a couple of cable questions

I just got 2 Planet Waves cables for my bass, one from my instrument to my compressor, one from there to my amp. I'm trying to find out what kind of cables I should use for the rest of my PA and recording system. I would assume it would make a difference if I use another high-grade, time-shielded cable to connect my amp to my board, but I'm not sure about my patches and effects. I'm thinking of using Monster, but they don't seem to have patch cables...though they do have "instrument" cables right down to shorties, 18" and even 6". I don't know the difference between instrument and patch cables...so any help there would be appreciated. If I use fancy cables for my instrument, and get a noticeable sound quality difference there, and then perhaps use Hosa patch cables for my effects at and from the board, and to connect my board to the rest of my system, am I going to lose that noticeable sound quality that I paid for in the instrument cables? I'm thinking of replacing all of my cables with either Planet Waves or Monster Cables, but before I spend all that money I need to know if it will make a discernable difference or if it's overkill.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Re: I have a couple of cable questions

no expert but I know that u should keep any cables as short as poss and always use shielded ones to prevent noise from moniters, electric interference etc. Maybe u could visit your local friendly recording studio and ask for some advice as nodoubt they'll have a lot of experience.
