I had the same problem, and...
I enjoy composing music, but found notation packages notoriously boring and slow and inefficient for my purpose.
So I wrote my own music package. It's freeware, but only works in DOS. Works with most sound cards, providing that you have either a wavetable daughterboard on your sound card (NOT a software synth) or external instrument.
It works fine unless you are using Windows 3.1 or Windows 2000. In which case it won't work.

Data Becker's 'Music Centre Pro' (an audio/midi sequencer) is easy to use, looks very nice onscreen, has excellent midi functionality and is bargain priced at $29UK. Using midi only, your daughter will be able to program 'edit grids' with the notes/chords of up to 16 different midi instruments for playback as a composition. Score editing is also available and vocals and live instuments can also be added alongside the midi voices. For good quality midi voices you will need a soundcard with good built in voices. Playback any midi file to see how they sound. A software soundcard like Yamaha's SY-XG50/100 can be loaded for excellent midi voices but recording audio alongside the midi song using a softcard leads to a time delay/bad sync. Simply record with the hard cards voices playing for no time delay then playback with softcard for improved voice in this scenario.

Many thanks for your reply I didn't think cakewalk would do it; now that I read the Band in a Box info I dont think their basic pack will do it either. Its a pity I was trying to get a process like it for about $AUST 200. Thanks again. JIMBO.

Can cakewalk H/S add chords to arrangements like Band in a box can. Iwould appreciate some advice as I am thinking of buying Home Studio.

Standalone app
It's a standalone app so will not work inside Cubase. You have to export your beat creations as .wav files then load these into Cubase tracks I'd have thought.

Inoperative Audio CD Player
Get error message saying I need 'MMJB.exe' for opening files of type 'AudioCD'. Can't find it on interned downloads. Any help would be appreciated.

Download another CD player like CDrun (http://www.amberror.lt/) and make it your default CD player.

You have the Audio CD associated with Musicmatch Jukebox. Either download another copy, or hold shift while right clicking the track, and choose OPEN WITH, then select another program (IE, CDPlayer) then click ALWAYS use this program when opening this type of file, then click OK.... Problem Solved
Problem in recording audio in Cubase VST 32 5
Just one week ago i purchased Cubase VST 32 5. I have a problem in recording audio. I composed a song as wave in another program "fruity Loops" and imported it to cubase. Till now everything is ok, then i want to record a guitar part with my guitar in the line in 2 of my sound blaster live platinum. The problem is when i hit a note in my guitar there is a delay in the sound. The signal of my guitar goes out from the cubase approximately one second after i hit the note in my guitar. The problem is that the guitar does not much with the other wave that i have composed. Can anyone help me with this problem, how can i eliminate the delay of the signal? Or tell me what to do to record a guitar in cubase without delaying the signal. Please help.

I'll try to give you better advice than the other person.. In the audio system dialog, make sure Monitoring is disabled, and monitor through your soundcard by unmuting your inputs in the sound blaster live mixer.

get rid of thyat shitty sound card if your going to buy a great program you should buy a compriable sound card stayaway from sound blaster when your tryin to be profesional...!

Has Any one got info on how to password protect recordable cds to keep prying eye out of our files some type of program so that when you put in the cd ypu have to put in a password like you do with Zip Drives thank you

DesktopSheetMusic2.02 Inspector does not work, why?
I bought Desktop Sheet Music of Midisoft, version 2.02.
However I can not assign any instrument to the scores, because "inspector" does not work. When I click "inspector", a small window appear on the screen but it is just a grey panel without no contents. No information appares but some folder like designed background only. Is there known bugs such causes this kind of trouble?
I am using Windows 2000. Sound board is Sound blaster PCI128.

HELP Why can't I burn on some CD-R
Why can't i burn on MUSIC CDRs, I cant burn on Memorex Music CDR or TDK Music CDR, why is this? is it my CD Burner, or is it my software, I use Adaptec's Easy CD Creator 4.02.

HELP Why can't I burn on some CD-R
No I can burn on any other CD-R but I can't burn on those that say MUSIC CD-R, I can't burn 'em but my friend can. What can I do? is it my Burner?

MUSIC CDRs are a different breed of CDR to those used on computer based burners. MUSIC CDRs are for use ONLY on stand-alone burning machines. You cannot use them on a computer based sytem.

Go to CNET.com, they review CD-R and CD-RW drivers.
From the main page click on Hardware > then Storage > then select CD-R/CD-RW Drives.
Read review and prices.
Hewlett Packard CD Writers are widely supported.

I am looking for such a program, which can find midi files in a special way. If I looking for a melody, and I type some notes ex: C C D D G G, or do re mi re do, it can find some midi files includ this sequenc.

track splitting
I have a query on track splitting. I hope someone can help me. I'm looking for a software that can track - split a song. By that I mean to be able to extract just the vocals, or just the music from a specific song. I have heard that there is software out there that actually maps the noise waves of the song it self and extraction can take place that way, but don't know where to look. Any help is greatly appreciated!

First of all, I'm not a pro musician. I recently saw
Rebirth on a friends system and thought it was really
cool. I came to this site looking to download it, but
I quickly saw how many other/similar programs there
were. For someone who's mostly looking to have fun, could
