computer audio output

can I use my stereo amplifier and speakers to play the songs in my pc library.I guess my question is can the signals from the speaker jack on the pc be run through the amp the way you woul a tape deck turntable etc.

With the right cable (probably a 3.5mm stereo jack plug to two phono plugs), you can easily connect the two together. The amplifier/speakers I use cost almost as much as the PC, and the sound quality is much better than any of the supposed "hi-fi" PC speakers.

You can easily buy external enclosures that allow IDE devices (hard drives, CD-ROMs etc) to be connected to USB/Firewire. I have a 40GB drive which I connect through USB2 and I've had no problems. The enclosure cost me £29.

karaoke files and software

Hi, Everyone:

I have downloaded over 180 karaoke discs, which I own, onto my MY MUSIC folder: I need a program that will allow me to display the graphics on my computer screen while I listen to the music through Windows Media Player. If my downloaded music files (CD+G) (MIDI} become Windows Audio files, do I need a specific codex?
Any easy answer or help would be greatly appreciated!

You do not need a codec...

You need the proper filter.

Install this little filter, and WMP can play the mp3+g file (unzipped).

I tried to get this little filter but could not locate in sourceforge.net website, Is the group id 89149 correct? I looked at around 450 listings and my browser could not locate the file.

Shield on FX 289 a song name?

Hello There,

I dont know if this message board knows of a show called "Shield" on FX 289 showing on Sky Tv in the UK?

I was watching the last episode of season One, and there was a song that played the episode to a finish, Vic and his crew have just robbed the money train and are stood around a huge pile of money thinking of what they have just pulled off.

It was sang by a man to the acompany of a piano and the chorus seems to to go "and I am over come yeah ..........and I am over come baby"

Other than that I have no idea what the song is called or who sang it? a friend of mine suggests it was sang by "Neil Sedarka" dont know if that is spelt correctly

Hope someone out there can help out, its driving me crazy.

My name is Tom and I am a former senior Guitar player singer getting back into playing after some years of being out of the business. I am pursuing a single or duo act.

I am currently trying to practice my cover songs using a DVD player with Karaoke function and running it through my home stereo. The Karaoke cds that I am using sound really great and inspire me to practice my vocals. The problem I am faced with using this setup is I need more control so I can practice my guitar along with my vocals. Can't do it with Karaoke cd's because the guitar solos are already there and can't be removed.

I discovered in talking to a few other musicians the best way around this is to use Band in a box and your computer to practice your songs and also as part of your live setup for music accompaniment. So I took the next step and downloaded the Band in a box demo version. I then connected the audio out of my computer to my home stereo via the other input on my DVD player. Well to make a long story short when I fired everything up I got sound through the stereo ok but there was a lot of background noise and the quality of the sound was not great. In reading a few articles I discovered all the background noise was due to the fact that I have a cheap integrated sound card via the motherboard and that It is not shielded and I am picking up all the internal noise from my computer and it is getting amplified through the stereo? To eliminate this problem I need to purchase a decent PC sound card? Also I need to buy a better sound module? Like a roland SD20?

I am pretty much convinced that purchasing biab along with some type of sequencing,recording software is the way to go? so this brings me to the next step and following problems.

1. My computer is a dinosaur. 120/ P11--64meg ram---Windows 95.
2. I am out of work and have a limited budget. May have to borrow some money?

i have the boot disk for this microcomputer, ver.1.10. it is not the best. i have misplaced my disk of a later version. that is my current problem. that is why i am searching on the internet in this category. that is why i found your query. i am only passing by. i have never posted a response to a message in a chatroom like this before. i am not even sure if you will be able to read this. but if you are still looking for the sequencer's boot disk, i will be happy to mail you a copy. if you have already found a boot disk, is your version later than mine? if so, please email me. thank you.
