lets start with a computer allright, fast enough, good soundcard, a lot of free space for samples, then get a program to take some like soundforge maybe, and a program to remix them. Try reason, its a virtual studio and its exactly the same as u would have everything extern and cheaper to start with. it also uses different kinds of soundfiles. have fun

: I have been recording on my tascam 424 8-track (with a cassette) for years. I'm finally ready to make the serious upgrade. What's the best thing for me to do in the $500-$1200 range? I am wondering if I should go with a stand-alone unit (and if so, which 1?) or if I should go with a PC-based system (again, if so, which?). I am interested mainly in versatily and ease of recording. Although, fitting all of this in my kinda small studio apartment is certainly a consideration. I want to be able to add some good effects, not to have editing something a nightmare, as well as be able to actually burn the thing to a CD. I'm leaning towards a PC based system, but a stand-alone unit seems to have some nice pros, like self-containment and portability. However, while I mainly record guitar, keyboard, bass, and vocals, I would love to be able to mess around with sampling and some techno stuff (which i have zero clue how to do). Plus, I really like the idea of being able to see it all on a big monitor. Help point me in the right direction PLEASE!

Hi Aaron,

You've asked some BIG questions there.

My opinion is that the best way to find out if you like
PC based recording, which I think is better because of
the flexibility you get, then start with some cheap/free
software and see how you like it.

For multitrack recording you can't really beat n-Track
for value. You can use most of the features for free
during the 30 day trial period and then it's less than
$50 to get the full version. You can find out more about

To get the idea of messing around with samples and loops
and electronic music I'd start with Tu2 which you can

what r some good but easy to use software for recording music on your pc? i want to be able to record seperate tracks for an individual song using different inputs such as a sampler, keyboard, drum machine, etc. i had cakewalk at one point, but it was too complicated.

akai - mpc 2000xl question

i just got an mpc 2000 and i only got the 3 and a half floppy on it. i was wondering if i could hook it up to my computer and save my files on that instead of an external zip or on my floppies? if i can, do i need any particular software or drivers?

I own an Akai MPC 2000 and have been working frequently on the S3000 at school using the Mesa software which I've found to be extremely useful (the software) with it's editing capabilities and easy use. I'm hoping that the software is available also for the MPC 2000...hopefully I'm not asking the same question as previously posted, if so, forgive my novice understanding. Thank You!!

uninstall Fruity Loops trouble

I'd like to uninstall Fruity Loops (demo) but there is no installer available. Then I try to uninstall it from the control panel and not found the program in the add/rem programs.

does anyone know how to get the computer to find the hardware. mine says the drivers an everything are found but not the hardware. but it worked before, it just stoped workin all of a sudden. can any1 help?
