burning my Cakewalk tunes to cds
How do I get my songs from Cakewalk recorded into the built-in cd player of my computer!
I've been going thru the "help topics" of Cakewalk but have'nt had much luck.Plus I'm new at computers.
HELP!
Thanks...KC.
Re: burning my Cakewalk tunes to cds
Don't want to sound pedantic, but you're talking about your CD Player when you need a CD Burner. Best to check whether you have one of those first.

Notation Software - transposing
Hi...
I have a few notation software programs but none of them can transpose an entire piece of sheet music. Can anyone suggest a software that can?
Thanks,
Audrey
Reverb removal
There are so many plugins available to add reverb to a recording. Anyone know of a program or another way to remove reverb from recordings?
Forensic Audio
You can't really do that with current software. However, it should be partially possible in theory. The way that I would attempt to do this would be with the help of an FFT display software. A good FFT spectrogram/oscilloscope type program should give you a good moving graph of time versus frequency. The colours denote intensity or amplitude. On the PC, there are a few freeware programs like that, but i forget what they are called. Anyway, by monitoring a known piece with the same kind of reverb, you should be able to see and hear where the reverb is.
The FFT display will show you where the sonic energy of the reverb is, and how long it lasts. With that information, you should have an idea of the main frequencies involved and the decay time of the reverb. Of course, the more advanced the reverb, the more complex this will be. However, some reverbs are nothing more than layered delays with feedback, so finding the dominant resonant frequencies won't be so hard.
Once you know these things, you can either try to manually edit all reverb tails out (they tend to be the same length). Or you could try using a noise gate. If you have a keyable noise gate, they you can feed the key of the noise gate with material EQ'd to pass only the same frequencies as the reverb. You could also use a keyable compressor the same way. If you don't have keyable dynamics processors, then you will need to duplicate your audio files and then
EQ them separately, invert their polarity, and experiment with mixing them back with the original content.
Overall, mixing processed and inverse polarity duplicates is how to do unusual kinds of spectral edits like that. It's not likely to result in the full removal of reverb, but it could be an interesting effect if you get rid of a lot of it.
You might try looking up some JAES or JASA (Journal of the Audio Engineering Society/ Journal of the Acoustical Society of the Americas) for some of the really serious professional research on this kind of thing. I bet some nordic or Japanese chap has already created something of this sort for forensic audio. Other than that, ask trent Reznor.
Hold on, that reminds me. Some interesting vocal changes have been done with time expansion algorithms. I have done some of this myself. You might actually achieve a minor bit of reverb removal by using an editor to Time Compress the recording. You might have to try time compressing in reverse too. Similarly, some FFT-based time compression/expansion softwares might also be helpful with this kind of experiment. The standalone compress/expanders often have more detailed FFT settings such as overlap, and window type and size. There might be some particular setting that overlaps small windows properly enough and often enough to reduce reverb.
Since some FFT expansion actually CAUSES reverb as a side effect, trying reversed audio might help a little. I think I may have actually done this once myself. You'll want to use as many bands as your computer can handle though, if you want clearer results. 8192, or 16384, or 32768, etc. 1024 probably won't be enough. Sometimes these bands are called bins.
If you' ve ever worked with a vocoder, some of this might start to seem familiar. I suggest trying HOG. It's free, and it has some great tools for this kind of thing.
Now that i'm thinking better, I'm remembering a great tool called D-Noise, or D\Noise or D/Noise. (I forget which). It is a bit hard to understand for me. I did'nt take Calculus or higher math. However, it's great at clearing up convoluted audio. It uses some interesting time-varying statistics to do its work. I'll be it could be adapted to remove reverb for sure, since reverb has a particular statistical distribution.
Re: Forensic Audio
Thanx - some helpful info here
Come to think of it... time compress might just do the job!
Re: Reverb removal
That is too much of a tall order. The sound of an instrument or vocal with the reverb is 'one' sound and is no longer a send or insert effect to be seperated. The on chance you might have is with a noise gate and that would only generally work with one word or one instrumental phrase at a time. Not a singer as such... I would forget about it if I were you... ';/

Re: Reverb removal
Try Cool Edit or similar.
However - a caveat. If the purpose of reverb removal is to make a recording clearer for forensic (ie. court or evidence) purposes, always remember that ANY enhancement = alteration
Virtual Indian instruments at the Swar Café!..
Hi,
This is to announce we have just reopened the Swar Café at www.swarsystems.com/SwarShala/Cafe/ where we have posted some compositions totally created with our Indian music software, SwarShala 3.0 Pro. We'll keep adding such compositions every week or so.
SwarShala is a MIDI software that features 22 Indian instruments recorded with state-of-the-art equipment from renowned players. You can access these instruments from the software itself, or through any MIDI source by using the included Swar Sampler.
For the moment, the software only runs on Windows platforms, but we are planning to port it to the Macintosh (user interface is already in Java). If you would like to be informed when this takes place, please send us a mail to non-win@swarsystems.com.
Musically yours,
The Swar Systems Team
I have an editing question about Soundforge6!!
I am remix DJ and I use Soundforge6 "on WInXP Pro" to rcord my mixes. Im VERY curious on how to set tracks into my mixes so when I play the finished CD in a CD palyer I can skip through the tracks. I'm not even sure if this can be done through Soundforge, but I did see a kidd do this with the Nero5 Wav editor. I can't remember exactly what he showed me though. =[ Any Help would be Great!!! Thanks

What should I do?
Re: MMJB soundcard waveout format not supported
Ok. This is what I did and it worked instantly.
Load your Mainboard Utility Cd (or similar) and select Audio Drivers. Don't know how or why but it worked.

SAME HERE, MMJB messed my system...
Re: MMJB soundcard waveout format not supported
Hey people , after weeks of looking for the problem , I found it , a bad system.ini file , so my advise is to open system.ini in a notepad and look for the following lines:
(they should be exactly like this, if you don't have them, add them)
[boot]
drivers=mmsystem.dll
[mci]
cdaudio=mcicda.drv
sequencer=mciseq.drv
waveaudio=mciwave.drv
avivideo=mciavi.drv
videodisc=mcipionr.drv
vcr=mcivisca.drv
GOOD LUCK , IT WORKED FOR ME
Re: MMJB soundcard waveout format not supported
After trying every remedy I could find on the net - reistalling souncard, downloading new drivers etc - all to no avail.
Then I used a great little utility called AShampoo Startup Tuner, which allowed me to easily edit my windows registry. I disabled a couple of entries which didn't look right & lo and behold - all things back to normal - mp3s again!! Whoo hoo
Re: MMJB soundcard waveout format not supported
hey everytime i try to play my mp3s it says waveout format not supported... can anyone help?
Also the Sound Volume 32 Icon that should display on everyones system isnt loading at startup,
I never changed OSes Ive been at win ME.
Actually I didnt do anything I was chatting on Trillian (Combination MSN/Yahoo/AIM/ICQ Instant Messanger), when all of a sudden my computer Froze, I restarted the System and I lost all sounds, only the Sys Speaker worked. SndVol32 stopped showing up in the SysTray.
If anyone has any Ideas please let me know.. (and no there isnt a Red Exlamation point letting me know there is any probs with the SoundCard, Controller, Codec, or any other device)
Also
I tried using System Restore, and it will run through the whole Sys Restore, then Restart and say "Restore Unsuccesfull". Im just hoping this isnt the result of a Virus and or Trojan.. Its very possible and anymore very Likely.
Re: MMJB soundcard waveout format not supported
Music Match gives me the same error message. "WavOut format not supported" All I did was upgrade to Windows 2000. Is there something I can do?

Re: MMJB soundcard waveout format not supported
It seems like everyone has this problem and no one has the answer.
It has to do with your soundcard and it's drivers. The driver file is probably missing or corrupted.
You just need to install/reinstall your soundcard driver. Go under "Add New Hardware" and follow the steps for Troubleshoot existing hardware.
Even if you don't have the disk or no the type, the Windows Update should find a suitable driver for you.
Hope this helps.
Re: MMJB soundcard waveout format not supported
Either through a hardware/software conflict, or who knows what else, your sound card was likely unrecognized in the system. Unlike Win95 that used to have a red bang(!), the system will show nothing.
Easy fix. Remvoe your sound card and start up. Then shut down and put it back in. Dust it off, change slots, whatever. Next time it will likely come up but won't show you a new hardware found dialog (gee isn't XP great?). Everything should work now.
How I fixed this on my system...
Hi all,
Thought I'd post how I fixed this issue on my computer:
I had re-installed xp from scratch and couldn't play my MP3's because of this error as well.
I didn't want to mess with my system.ini file like someone had mentioned, so I tried re-installing my drivers for my on-board sound card, and it's working now, no other messing around.
My advice would be if you recently re-installed you operating system, make sure you install your drivers for your soundcard, and if you still are having the problem, maybe try different drivers/updated ones or the original off the cd that came with the sound card :)
Hope this helps some of you.
Reinstalling the audio drivers solved it for me too
It worked like a charm.

Re: MMJB soundcard waveout format not supported
yeah i get that same error message, i was connected via terminal server and ran mmjb remotely to see what happens when that error popped up. I did a search and ended up here. on to the next search topic.

Re: MMJB soundcard waveout format SOLUTION
Had the same problem on my Gateway Windows XP P4 with Soundblaster Audigy HD soundcard. I turned off the comp, opened it up, took out the card, wiped the contacts a little, and plugged it back it.
I found previously that after this problem started window's found new hardware wizard wasn't really recognizing the card, it was recognizing the fact that i had to audio controller. After the unplug-plugin the new hardware wizard realized it was Soundblaster Audigy.
I also found the dealing with the driver to be a headache. I initially took a basic "all-inclusive" type of driver from soundblaster for their basic Audigy card, figuring this would just work and cause no conflicts. It did work. Then i went to gateway and got the OEM driver which worked. So i went further and got the updated driver from gateway.
Funny thing that I had happen sometime throughout the process of getting the sound to work was I would get the Windows startup sound but nothing else. Once the desktop loaded no cd would play even though there would be no error pop-ups and the cd progress would be moving. I don't remember when it happened but it really confused me (I think from the basic driver).

what if you have an onboard soundcard?

Karaoke recording software
Does anyone know any good software that will play "good" instrumentals and allow you to record your voice?
Re: Karaoke recording software
Ummm, that depends on your definition of 'good'.
Microsing Karaoke Recorder uses MIDI backing tracks that you sing alone to, recording your voice with effects if desired, saving to a WAV file.
