need help

what web-sites do i go to to burn songs

Re: how to burn music off the internet

You'll need a CD Burner - hardware - and some CD Burning software. Go to the front page of this site and browse the CD Burning section. I recommend Nero as it seems to do everything I've thought of.

HIRING programmer to create custom mp3 player

Need a custom mp3 player program created.

Features:

OS: Win 2000/XP
Plays 8-16 mp3 files simultaneously and in sync, each on separate channels.
Individual volume controls for each channel.
Mute and solo for each channel.
One master volume control.
Use ASIO device driver to enable each channel to output to separate output channel.
Customized visual desktop controller.

Background:
If you're interested to know what im doing with this:
I do multichannel digital recordings with cubase, cool edit pro, several others. My music is designed to playback in multichannel, much like 5.1, 7.1 surround sound. Currently, the only software capable of playing these songs in this format is one of the professional recording programs. This makes it difficult for me to share my music with friends who do not own these software titles or whose computers are not geared for these high caliber programs. Also my laptop does not have a printer port to plug the security key into. The only solution to me is to create a a specialized player.

If anyone has any other suggestions please make them, I could use the advise.

Re: HIRING programmer to create custom mp3 player

you should try to contact sourceforge.net or something.
i dont think many programmers come here. maybe check out some sites on C++ programming. I think Standford.edu has some advanced audio programming courses though.

keep trying.

Re: HIRING programmer to create custom mp3 player

There are a couple of points you many want to consider:

1. How much are you prepared to pay the programmer to do the work.

2. What will make your MP3 player unique? It's a crowded market with the likes of WinAmp, Windows Media Player and hundred of others.

Lister

Re: HIRING programmer to create custom mp3 player

Im not intending to retail this product, its strictly for my own use. I havent been able to find a multichannel player that will also allow me to assign to multiple outputs. Thats really the ONLY feature I need. The multitrack recorders can all do it but I need somthing more simplified and dedicated. I use Cubase, Protools, Logic Plat and a Yamaha 4418. But that doesnt help me here. If I could take the master and channel mixers from any of these programs and throw away everything else that'll be perfect. I want other people to be able to hear my music with the equipment that I have. Thank you all for your help and suggestions, I really do appreciate the advice and interest to help out. As far as how much im willing to spend, as much as its worth, I need it. Where are you programmers???????

Mike Lau

Spend your money on a stand-alone hard disk recorder instead.

I totally agree with Lister. Besides, there are some better audio formats nowadays than mp3. I have heard good things about the .Ogg Vorbis format, but I know that there are better things than even that improvement.

Programming takes lots of time and debugging. Years, really. It's mostly an uphill battle when you consider how quickly operating systems change too.

I still say that you are looking for a multitrack program, not a "player".
I forget which program it is for sure, but there is a multitracker that can play various formats including mp3. It might be Samplitude, but I forget. I read about it in SoundChaser's catalog. Find out.

Maybe a simpler project would be to create an add-on or enhancement to an existing product. You could try to contact the author of an existing piece of software and see where it gets you.

i need quick answer

I have to generate some original, funky/techno background grooves to 2-3 minute promo videos.....not worth my time to sit down in a recording studio, I need simple and quick, but good. WHAT music authoring/editing SOFTWARE, preferably free, is there that will be easy to use and that will contain interesting music samples.
thank you for your time
L.

Re: i need quick answer

Try Acid Xpress then. It's free. But you'll need to provide your own samples/loops - which shouldn't be hard to track down or purchase. Easy to learn and make grooves with.

There is no quick answer

Right now freeware VST instruments and effects are the best way to get sound variety for free. This assumes that you have some kind of VST/MIDI program though. A few VST instruments allow you to load up your own audio files, which really expands the options.

I still say that Tuareg is a nice starting point for drum machine/groove machine sequencing. It comes with enough ready-to-go synthesis/editing options to make a nice collection of loops. Of course, you can load up your own and process and edit them too. In addition to Tuareg, SimSynth and Stomper are good synthesis tools. But, it's been a while since I've used a PC, so surely there are many more interesting programs nowadays.

On the Mac, I have yet to find any earthshattering freeware aside from Logic Fun, the freeware version of Logic Audio, and ProTools free. I can't run ProTools Free on my MacOS 8.1 system, but I can run Logic Fun with the help of NotVirtual! system extension. LogicFun doesn't come with hip sounds though. There are lots of good shareware and trial mac audio programs, but not many for free AND easy to use. CellSynth is very powerful and makes cool sounds, but it's not so fast if you aren't used to it's interface style. Hmmm. Maybe the Rebirth 338 demo would make more sense. As long as you can record it's output somehow, you have 20 minutes to use the demo. And it's totally keen for techno.

I'm not sure what to tell you. The only nice thing about mac sounds is that you can extract lots of cool sounds from other programs and games if you have SndExtractor or SoundApp or something. For my projects, I usually start with acoustic recordings via the mic input, and process them to death with VST plug-ins and editor DSP functions. SoundEffects is ok, but not supported. SonicWORX Artist Basic is cool and has 24bit capability and lots of ways to mangle a sound.

I'm not really giving very good suggestions. This makes me realize that crackware really does have a decent purpose sometimes. Hardware synths and samplers also are quite valuable in this regard.

Well, back to the PC. Probably the quickest answer would be ACID.
And on a Mac, Cubasis AV with a good collection of sound files from EastWest or SoundOnSound or something.

Re: There is no quick answer

Hey Macintorque, your quick reply was much appreciated. I'll try your leads. Thanks.

Rock on, then.

You are quite welcome. too bad i couldn't be more helpful.

don't forget to look up "xVST" and "rVST". xVST lets you process AIFF's using VST modules, and rVST lets you use sound input. They aren't entirely stable, but if you keep the IO/Vector sizes both at 64 then it crashes less. Also, it's best not to run it for too long, as the memory seems to run out eventually.

Each can load up 2 VST effects. I haven't tried to load up VST instruments, but I don't think they'd work. These are both Mac programs.

I personally recommend NOT posting your phone number on a public forum. I am not being paranoid, just sensible.. If you have a problem. Tell people about it and come back for the replies..
