Hello. I am new. Could someone please email me OFF-LIST and explain how I can hook up my VS-880EX to my PC? Thanks in advance,

Re: Roland VS-880EX to PC

Depending on the Vs's operating system, you could transfer audio through SCSI. I heard a few people moaning about it not working and others following the route that I used to take by sync'ing the VS with the computer (my case a Mac G4) and transferring the audio over to the computer a couple of tracks at a time.

The way it's done is using Midi. MTC (midi time code) to be precise. You will need a midi interface for the Windows box and some sort of recording software that sends or receives MTC. All the Audio/Midi sequencers I have come across send out MTC when requested.

I used to make the VS the MTC Slave (sync/tempo page) and the Mac the master, using Logic audio. When the Vs is in Slave mode, then press the play button and it should flash denoting that it is waiting for an MTC signal. Set the Windows box's sequencer to send MTC as the master and press play on the sequencer. If the FPS (frames per second) are the same on both machines (I think 30 is the default on the VS) then the Vs should start playing.

If the above works for you, then it's just a matter of either using the two machines together, or rigging some audio ins and outs to and from both machines and tranferring tracks in perfect time. I must add that I haven't come across a better MTC device for sync'ing than the Vs. For some reason, they have been flawless in their time keeping and locating.

I will tell you but you will have to come back here for the answer. This is a forum and it would be disrespectful and a waste of information exhange for the benefit of the forum to take it backstage.

Let me know and I will spout it out here.
