you must have my IP number confused with my firewall spoofer.
I haven't been on AOL since 1994. nice try, though. actually,
i have heard that there are at least 5 separate users using the name "Macintorque" or
"Macintorch". I think it's an inside joke of some sort.

Good sampler/sequencer for odd projects live! NEED ANSWERS!
oh boy. I have an odd demand and am desperate for guidance. i need a sampler/sequencer to perform songs originally made on software. im thinking to cut my song into loops and samples that i can control live. But, here's the catch- i need hardware that will support any time signature. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 beats per measure-- you name it. i have odd taste and am hungry for hardware. ive messed around with a korg es1 and i like its functions, but it lacks any time sig other than 4/4. i think i need one with smartmedia or at least midi input, if i cant find one thats cool like the es1, then at least an old 80's seq/sampler--- anything!!! but hopefully not something too high-end, im not really creating just messing with. Please help!!
Re: Good sampler/sequencer for odd projects live! NEED ANSWERS!
same problem, haven't managed to find exactly what i am looking for..
u might try yamaha rs7000, sampler sequencer with a more or less expert synthesis, smartmedia, u can attach scsi drives to an optional expansion board for yer loopz, sampling memory max 64 megs (well, not really too much huh?)
or, there's stuff like yamaha su700 phrase sampler (comes with floppy drive L0L, but expandable also with scsi interface), there u got a function called "loop sync" which can be used to perform that phreakin beatz u want>>>
different tempos sync, create a beat with software stuff and cut it with some studio tool to have for ex 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 .. beats per a loop and simply sync it with the rest o the stuff u want.
if u feel like tinkering with bpmz, try creating for example a sequence of 3 180bpm loops, and a seq of 2 120bpm loops (might also break one of the patterns), and play em syncronized.
(if i can count, i think these happen to be the same length, and see what sick beat u get out of playin em synced)

How to split up a song?
Iv downloaded several full albums, but i want to part them up in smaller parts so i can skip between the songs if i burn dem out on a cd.
Anyone who can help me with what prog I should use?
Midi signal but no sound
I'm getting a midi signal through my midi sport box when i trigger the cs2x keyboard, yet no sound comes out. It shows that it is being recieved in cubase aswell, which is running on an apple mac g4. Is it anything to do with the output settings in cubase? I've also done a midi test and it says that midi is being recieved when i press the keyboard. Any Ideas???
Re: Midi signal but no sound
Midi ISN'T sound. If Cubase is receiving midi then all is well.
What I do is route the audio outputs from the device that is being played from the midi information through the sequencer (in my case Logic on a G4), and then record both the audio and the midi. In this way, you can go onto a new sound with your synth and still hear the old one (as the audio is recorded). Once you have constructed a few midi (and related audio tracks) you can go back if need be to the first one and mute the audio track, un mute the midi track and record in a new audio track with a different sound as the midi information played will always be there..

Roland VS840 File Conversion to Wav?
Does anyone know any prog that can covert the proprietary VS 840/ 880 sound files into wav files, or any other way of getting them off the zip disk so that I can work with them in my PC? I no longer have the unit to mix from.

how can i record to a minidisc
i have a panasonic minidisc player (not a recorder) i was woundering how can i record to the minidisc someboby please help me
Re: how can i record to a minidisc
you need a recorder. Try to find a deck unit that has optical input AND optical output. They used to make them in the late 1990's. I bought a nice used one in 1999 for about 200 dollars. Surely you could get one for 100 dollars now. It used to be possible to get a used recorder for about 50 bucks. They are dirt cheap in Japan, where they have totally replaced cassettes.
In the U.S. minidisc is like 8 track cassette--nobody uses them.
I have on though. The JE510 is a good kind of unit.
Maybe you could order from crutchfield or something.
Recording accompaniment styles from Yamaha PSR-225
Does anyone know how to find out what instruments are playing during the auto accompaniment (Yamaha PSR-225 midi keyboard)for all the different styles? Currently I can record through the transmit channels that are decribed in the manual, but then I have to work out what each voice the channel is playing, and set it manually. There must be an easier way. Can you help?

how do i put mp3's on a cd so i can play them on my mp3 cd playe
i need to know how to put mp3's on a cd. not how to convert them to wav.
Re: how do i put mp3's on a cd so i can play them on my mp3 cd p
Why don't you either try Nero or just go to the CD Burning section of this site where the software descriptions clearly point out whether a program will burn the audio CDs for you?

Re: how do i put mp3's on a cd so i can play them on my mp3 cd p
all you have to do is put the actual MP3s onto a cd. for example, in adaptec easy cd creator, you must choose File CD instead of Music CD, because you're putting FILES onto the CD as opposed to wav files. email me if you still dont get it.

Need studio recording advice
Hi,
I have a Mac G4 733 Mhz w/CD RW and would like to use the computer to record and mix music I make with guitar and vocals, but I don't have clue as how to do it. What programs and gear do I need, and what are ballpark prices for same? I'm thinking of buying a MIDI capable guitar (Godin) and a Roland amp and/or processor, mainly for the ability to program different tunings on the same instrument. But I don't know anything about MIDI and how it can interface with the computer. Are there any good books or web resources that adderss these topics?
Any reply appreciated,
It's quite easy actually!
Well, what you first need for a Mac - is a quadrent 4t cable. Better known as a blomp lead. Insert the blomp lead into your sound card (the 4T patch system spec). After this you need a second copper line running from your system into your frett feed line, (preferably your second conch line. After which you simply splice the conch line to your sound card's amp generator-Thats the free zone disabler at the back of your T-cell unit. Simply hook the mechanical interconnector to your woodlow cable and wa-la! your making music with the best of them. This is very cheap and can make your recordings twice as cool as you wanted in the first place. Also, be sure your patching your D-fribb zoom conductor into you back positive outlet, or your music might sound a little dizmal. OK? Well goodluck and let me know how it went.
My expertise is available at any time.

Re: Need studio recording advice
What i would do is establish how many audio tracks you will want to record at a time. Consider the fact that friends might come around and you might want to record them to their own track. If your a one man band and your on a budget, start thinking around the M-Audio 2496 Audiophile card. This comes with a usable version of Logic for MacOs (still waiting for the OSX version of Logic anything other than the already released Platinum version).. Logic is made by Emagic which was recently bought out by Apple themselves. It's a top program and I use it exclusively for all (well, nearly all) of my audio and midi recordings.
If you want something with more ins and out and the same software, look at other PCI audio from M-Audio or RME (there are others by these guys are good) as well as Firewire solutions like MOTU for their devices such as the 828 (mixed reviews) and the much better 896. On a smaller firewire budget, consider a Presonus Firestation which has recently been released. I can't comment on bundled software but there should be something.
The other things to consider are maybe a mixer for either making plugging instruments in and out of the audio interface easier and for supplying a microphone preamplifier (you'll need one with many audio cards) and some sort of direct input for your guitars and basses which would be in the form of an instrument input (specifically for guitars and basses and supplied with some audio interfaces) or buy a DI (direct injection) box which will allow you to plug a guitar into the DI and then out to a line level input on an audio interface.
If I were in your situation, I would consider first the inputs and outputs required at one time which will govern how many seperate tracks you can record at a time. Consider a mixer or larger rack mounting audio interface as in the firewire solutions or PCI solutions like the Digi001 (002 if you feeling rich) or the M-Audio Delta1010. Buy yourself something along the lines of a SM57 mic for the amp and a decent large diaphragm condensor like the Nt2 or Studio Projects C-1 up to the sexier Neumann TLM103 or Rode NTK (you can easily spend more) and invest in a nice mic preamplifier like the Studio Projects VTB-1 and get some serious signal chains together.
Midi is note information and other information on velocity, note bending etc etc. There is no sound. It's just control information. If you press record on a computer sequencer it will start counting along with the set tempo waiting for either midi or audio information (depending on the way you have set things up). The midi information played from something like a keyboard will be recorded. When played back, the midi information will have to be sent back to a midi device so that the midi device can actually make the sound you hear. If you play a guitar with a midi convertor then only the information on when you played the notes, how hard you hit them, how long you held them for etc etc etc... will be stored.
If you want something to play with now, download ProTools FREE which will allow you to record audio and midi (weak midi control). For fun, download something like 'Reason' Demo...

How do start your own recording studio? Are there certain licenses I should have before doing so. What is the best equipment to get.

Re: problems with Adaptec easy cd creator 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't think that you can do a crossfade using just easy cd creator without an audio editor. You can butt two files up to one another with no space between by using the "disk at once" option. Otherwise there will be a mandatory 3 second gap between tracks. As for a crossfade, I think that that would have to be done in an audio editing program and imported as a single file or two files butted up against each other (using disk at once). Hope this helps. Email me if you have any other questions.

MIDI pitch bending
Hey, I'm looking for help from anybody. I know how pitch bend with my MIDI sequencer (Jazz++), but normally, a pitch value of 127 is a whole tone up and a pitch value of 1 is a whole tone down, with 64 being in the middle...
I opened a .mid from somewhere else and found that in their file, 127 was an entire octave up and 1 was an octave down. Does anyone know how to achieve this? Thanks..
Re: MIDI pitch bending
The pitch bend range is determined usually by the MIDI sound generator's hardware settings, not usually by MIDI codes. However, it's possible that the sequence is sending SysEx codes or is sending a more detailed Continuous Controller message. Either way, if you want to achieve more power, you will need to look up a complete Index of MIDI codes.
Re: MIDI pitch bending
Thanks for the reply... while I don't know much (at all) about MIDI hardware or SysEx codes, I did just figure out how to set the amount of pitch bend with Jazz++, so I'll share it.
Choose "Parts" from the pull-down menus, then "Bender", and "Bender Basic". The first scrollbar next to each channel determines the number of semitones in a full pitch bend, from 0 to 24. The channels must have track names or they won't show up for some reason.
