SOUND PROBLEM
I BURNER CD BUT MY COPY CD AFTER SOME NOISE COMES AFTER FOUR OR FIVE TRACK . I USE NERO BURNING PROGRAM CAN YOU HELP .
cakewalk sound problem
I installed Cakewalk MAGIx STUDIO deLuxe 2004 on windows XP and it does not produce any sound. my soundcard is ok.
if it cries, it needs attention
It's probably a RAM-issued. Your CD-authoring software requires lots of memory and lots of computational attention. It can't handle interruptions either. You might be able to fix the problem by turning off all other programs and accessories before you burn the CD. And when the CD is burning, DONT use the computer for ANYTHING. Don't even click the mouse or keyboard. give it a try, and tell me how it goes. If your CD burner is on a USB port, you should disconnect your other USB things first. USB is not great for CD burners.
Converting Scorewriter Files to MP3
How do I convert Scorewriter files to the MP3 format? Thank you.
Re: Converting Scorewriter Files to MP3
: How do I convert Scorewriter files to the MP3 format? Thank you.
Hi,
I am not sure if there is a software than can do specifically that, but one method you can take (provided that you can atleast PLAY the scorewriter files) is to get Total Recorder to CAPTURE the sound as its being played from ur scorewriter player, and then save what you recorded as WAVE. From wave to mp3 shouldn't be a problem since there are MANY wave to mp3 convertors. Its a hassle, but its a guaranteed way in most cases for converting almost any format to wave or mp3. It records at Stereo, 16-bit, 44100, so its not bad quality.
Hope that helps,
Hish

using cd-r in a regular stereo system
While I can play recorded cd-r, I cannot play them in a regular stereo.
Some solution ideas
Try burning a new CD-R (not CD-RW) on a new disk at a slower speed.
4x is usually the safest of the fast speeds. Many disks burned at any rate higher than this will not work on many stereos. Also, try using plain old (and cheaper) 74 min blank CD-R's instead of the 80 min ones. The 74 minute CD's are easier to read by the machines, and are standard. 80 min CD's were never truly standard, so it's no wonder that they often don't work.
Re: using cd-r in a regular stereo system
Not all 'regular' stereos can play CD-Rs. Unless it's fairly new, the chances are the laser pickup isn't capable of reading the less reflective surface off a CD-R. If the stereo is fairly new, then it may be the brand of CD-R that's causing the problem. Try an audio-grade CD-R. If that doesn't work, you need a new stereo.

Synthesizing custom frequencies
I know nothing about electronic music, so I need some help in finding
out how to do what I want to do. I want to be able to create my own musical
scales, composed of frequencies different from the standard equitempered
scale, and then map them to whatever keys I want on my Casio keyboard.
I assume
with the right software and the right laptop PC sound card with a midi
interface
I can do this. Is it true? If so, what software will do the trick? Will
any freeware/shareware do it? (Simple sampler?) Also, what type of sound
card do I need for my laptop? Thanks for your help.
Re: Synthesizing custom frequencies
Also, I have noticed that many keyboards have a scale selection for the beardy weirdies... You could probably do it through midi as well. At worst, you could sample notes that have been pitched to your scale and map them.
My friend made a guitar once, designed on a scale he conceived. I actually used to play a coupld of tunes on it after I worked out where the hell the notes are. He took it to the local music shop to generate interest by found out the reality that the guy just wanted to sell guitars, any guitars. It still hanging around I suspect. The closest I have heard to a twelve string guitar with only six strings, if you see what I mean..

Pythagoras was superstitious, but melodic
Regardless of the software you find, your best tool will be
a calculator and your mind.
The formula for the equal-tempered scale is {2^[1/12]}
(2 raised to the [1/12] power). If you want more or less keys in the scale than 12, then just replace the twelve with the number of keys you'd like in your scale. Just remember that 12 keys doesn't include the octave, since the octave is already included as the first note. (12, not 13 notes in the equal tempered scale, yes.)
So, you have this funny number (1.05946 about) in the equal tempered scale. Use this number, or your new number from your new scale to multiply or divide with.
Any key frequency times your number (perhaps 1.05946) will yield a new frequency a musical half step up in pitch. If you divide instead of multiply, you get a frequency which is a musical half step lower.
If you want to calculate more steps, you could put them into the equation:
440 * 2^[2/12] = two half-steps above A (the first one above middle C).
Notice that I used a two instead of a 1 as the numerator in the equation.
I used 440 as a starting frequency, because it is standard tuning frequency in many countries much of the time for the equal tempered scale.
Since you would like to create your own scales, I think you should first calculate what the frequencies will be after you decide how many keys you want in your scale. After that, you won't be so dependent upon software. You can just use any pitch-bending-capable device after that.
Keep in mind, that 1.05946 is also like 105.946 % (percent).
So if your program does pitch bend according to percent, you can
just move the decimal point. You can also use this to match bpms or sample durations. Keep in mind that 1.05946 = 2^(1/12).
The "^" is an exponent sign.
Sorry I can't think of any programs good for casio. Well, I hope this
helps out. It's also useful to know if you ever what to very precisely EQ your recorded notes.
Bear in mind as well, stringed instruments don't exactly match the equal tempered scale even if they play music designed for it. Stringed instruments tend to have flat bass, and sharp treble. Only the middle notes match the equal-tempered scale, but not even that happens all the time. It depends on how the tuner tuned the guitar and what key they decide to play in. Hammered dulcimers (zithers) are great for experimenting with alternate tunings.

Re: G-Vox Guitar or Musician Plus
There are many of us who are still waiting for some extremely kind code writer to make available an updated driver for the wonderful G-Vox Guitar Bridge MIDI converter.
I need a Win ME or XP driver as do leagues of others not willing to toss theirs bought in 1995, as well as newbies buying these units off eBay in 2003!
Please email me directly should you know of a solution to being able to use these for years to come vs. having to call it obsolete after upgrading from Win 98.

Inserting Cue/Track Points On A Continuous Mix Of Music.
Hi, can anyone help me with Inserting Cue/Track Points On A Continuous Mix Of Music.
I have mixed and recorded an 80 minute mix onto cd using a audio cd recorder. Unfortunatly this recorder does not have the function to insert cue/track points to split the music from 1 continuous 80 minute track into the 10 tracks that are actually recorded.
I have tried saving the continuous mix to my PC as a WAV file but do not know what programs are available to insert the points in to split the tracks.
I know it sounds jibberish, but all I want to do is insert digital info onto the disc so that when I play the cd in a normal CD player, I can skip to certain tracks without having to go searching through the disc.
If you understand that then you will understand that when I go the play the edited mix I do not want to hear a gap between the tracks just the continuing mix.
If anyone can help with what software I could use to do this I would be most appreciated.
Thanx.
Mo
Re: Inserting Cue/Track Points On A Continuous Mix Of Music.
I might be wrong on this but I think you want the
benefit of a continuos mix while also being able
to select the track number to play.....
Sounds like you still need to split the Large mix
into seperate WAV's with a good wave editor (eg Cool Edit)
but the important part is how you choose to burn it onto CD, as a lot of burning s/w inserts an unwanted gap between tracks on CD's when you burn them.... (really irritating if burning a dance mix)
when burning the CD choose to burn it DISC AT ONCE as opposed to track by track.....
It may sort your problem out.
its irritating ..

acid is an irritant
Yeah. I tend to agree. CD's are of better quality than MP3's anyhow.
Then again, for underground bands, mp3 is a great vehicle.
Acid is corrosive....
...not irritant.

Re: looking for free music software evaluation cd-rom
Tinashe, you could try contacting Cakewalk directly to see if they can send you out a CD-Rom of their software Demo versions.
<a href="http://www.cakewalk.com/TheCompany/ContactingCakewalk.htm">http://www.cakewalk.com/TheCompany/ContactingCakewalk.htm</a>
Or you can download the demos from this site, although I think they are rather large files.

Re: looking for free music software evaluation cd-rom
The people who run this site produce a <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/cgi/rd/hqmemt1_click/rd.pl/?http://www.hitsquad.com/membersonly/">CDROM</a> every month with loads of demos. It's worth a look.
Or just go to the Cakewalk site and see if they have the demo there.

To avoid any possible confusion - we do have
multitrack recording software on the members CDROM
but Cakewalk is not on the next CD and we do not
have any immediate plans to include it.
I'll let you know if this changes at any stage.
