Audacity is freeware works under windows, mac,
linux and freebsd, can we say GNU?
"You can record sounds, play sounds, import and
export WAV, AIFF, and MP3 files, and more.
Use it to edit your sounds using Cut, Copy and
Paste (with unlimited Undo), mix tracks together,
or apply effects to your recordings. It also has a
built-in amplitude envelope editor, a customizable
spectrogram mode and a frequency analysis
window for audio analysis applications. Built-in
effects include Bass Boost, Wahwah, and Noise
Removal, and it also supports VST plug-in effects. "

interested:

It's amateurish, but hey, I've been wishing I
could find such a thing for years...
Thanks for your help.

Re: Software to piece together sound clips?
Wow, thanks. I already spent the night burning a CD
using Adaptec's
CreateCD, as I was desparate for a decent night's
sleep (already postponed a drive to Toronto because
of fatigue, but hey, we all have our problems, I'm sure).
The CD I made has too much silence between
clips (even with the option to leave out the 2 seconds
between tracks, as the tracks themselves fade in and
out at the beginning and end). They demand money
for inter-track cross fading capability.
So thanks again for your suggestion, I'm sure I'll be
making another CD soon. So much for one-time
cutting.

how i convert realjunkbox audio files rmx , in to mp3

Copyrights, record labels, managers, etc..
Hi.
We're a band from qc, canada and we're presently recording a demo. Since
we're probably going to send some of the songs to potential managers and
record labels, we don't want our music to be stolen. I'd like to know how I
can protect our music from such actions.
I'd also like to have some pointers on what to do and what not to do
when trying to find a record label, or manager. Are there any special things
to be done? What could increase our chances for success?
My present location is a very bad place to try to get into the music
industry, for several reasons. We're planning on maybe moving down to the
states. The main problem i'm facing is the work visa, i don't have a degree
and 2 guys in my band has music degrees, but it's just college(cegep). I've
been told it was going to be harder for us to get a work visa than an actual
job, is this true? Anyone knows about the formalities of these things? (i
know i might not be asking in the right NG for this, but hey someone might
know..)
Any replies are welcomed, thanks!

Re: Copyrights, record labels, managers, etc..
This should be fun kids...
I can help answer these questions but first let me comment on your post a
little because I feel that there may be some artists that may need advise
and just not as brave as you so they read rather than post. For those of
you, keep reading...
------------This may be re-printed and you may call me on any of the content
addressed-----------------
First, there is no real way to protect your ideas when your mailing material
out for review. Even copyrights do not protect your artistic views and any
wanna-b can copy your work and simply replace your lyrics and call it a day.
Reason? Chuck Berry would be one of the wealthiest men in the world if this
was not the case. The unfortunate thing would be if someone copied your
music "idea" and used it in a commercial soundbed that they are making money
and you are not making a penny. This happens all the time and anyone in the
industry that states otherwise is a liar of the first magnitude. You see,
not everyone in the music business is creative. They just know how to do
good business. Get it?
---------------- How to approach a record company --------------------
First off do not approach one if you do not have any business sense. Let
someone with business sense approach for you. It is a business deal not a
"getting discovered" trip. The first thing that will happen to you if you
do not have this in mind is devastating. Shelved!!!!!!!!! Then,
CHARGE-BACK!!!!!!! That is, if you get a contract after spending over a
thousand dollars of man-time, postage, recording, manufacture and artwork in
your fruitless mailing.
I am going to leave you with this thought. Think of your music as a "nail".
There are hundreds of "nail" producers in the world that really want their
product on the "nail" isle of Home Depot at eye level. Who gets that spot?
Let me give you a clue. Definitely not the nail maker that makes the best
nails but one that does the best business with Home Depot for that
department. Music is even worse because there are so many of YOU that
haven't a clue to this fact and constantly are "waiting to be discovered".
Your constantly "mailing my demo to the labels" trip. It is not your fault
though. The industry has programmed you into thinking this way in order to
manipulate you into believing things are not that simple. In history all
you have to do is study "Led Zeppelin" to see how great business separated
this act from any act other in that era. Then realize that all of the major
labels are owned by OIL COMPANIES and have deep pockets that do not require
your talent. They also would prefer going into a business venture with you
rather than screwing you. However, you go to them with your hand out and
your gonna get it in the butt. Then go to abcnews.com and look for the
payola article in the 20/20 section. Dated last week. Read this and get
knowledge of how the major record labels have already purchased their
products on the radio to keep you out unless you go through them. Then do
research as to why NO MP3.com artist, not previously signed now mp3.com, has
had ANY success getting their products distributed in MAIN-LINE record
stores. Oh, that shelf space has been purchased too....
If you would like my assistance in consulting your music future, get a hold
of me. I do charge for my services and I am not cheap. The last time I
checked anyone mastering your product was not cheap either. I charge $75/hr
and a client must pre-pay four hours before I will talk to him. You will
use every minute of it. Oh, I also have all of the facilities to pave your
way into the music business too. Studio, production company, label,
publishing company, coalitions in several states, manufacturing facilities
and a road map to your business success.

Re: Copyrights, record labels, managers, etc..
I hope you'll forgive the obvious questions then, Erich ;o)
1) If Leopard Records had a listing in this year's Song Writer's Market,
what would it look like?
2) Were you suggesting that the company's open to new acts? or were you just
discussing your management/mastering fees in general, as an example?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Copyrights, record labels, managers, etc..
First question about Song Writers Market... I dont affiliate myself nor recommend that ANYONE use such organizations because they are complete BS and if your familiar with song sharks this would be obvious.
Second on Leopard Records, I am not with that organization any longer. Great label though but I am not sure it is too active due to health issues with the owner.
Have a great day,
Erich

Help in search for Piano Discovery Software
Greetings,
I have a Piano Discovery System but lost the software in our last move. I
need to reinstall it on the PC for my daughter. I know the company Jump!
Music has gone out of business therefore I can not download software from
them.
Does anyone know where I might obtain a copy of the two CD's that came with
the Piano? I would greatly appreciate any help I can possibly get in this
matter.
Thanks in advance.

Converting most AT and ATX systems to a 4U rackmount computer case is not
that difficult. I have done many. The cases run anywhere from $200 on up.
Usually depending on the size of the power supply.

If you export the FruityLoops song to a WAV file, you can use any number of multi-track recording programs to add the vocals.

how do i seprate the beats
Hi how do i seprate the beats to replace different beats using ACID PRO 3. Thank you so much
Re: how do i seprate the beats
It's going to be very hard to remove beats and then add in the new ones. It's a bit like getting mashed potatoes and then trying to re-construct the potatoes out of it so you can have french fries. You can always fiddle around with an audio editor but you'll lose your bottom end. No one wants to lose their bottom end!

Mixing to AIff in Logic Platinum 4.7 (MAC)
ok...
i've recorded a song on Metro 5.0 (cakewalk)...
now...seeing the song needed a little EQ, i transferred the file over to Logic Platinum (for better EQing)...so,, i opened the EQ's that i want in the audio mixer, and fattened everything up, but i can't seem to figure out how to do a FINAL mix now and take what i've done and make it an .aiff file.
any ideas?
you can email me or post here

Post here...
"Post here" is the only answer your likely to get. The Email service is currently closed... :/
Find the Logic Mixer. Find the Master Fader. Find the BOUNCE button at the bottom of that fader. Click it and all the options will be there. If it's been recorded in 24 bit, then master to 24 bit. Otherwise I wouldn't necessarily bother. Make sure it's not a split file unless you really want 2 mono documents. Left and er.. Right.

problem converting cuebase .arr to .wav files
I have a cuebase .arr file (11 tracks of synthized general midi instruments)that I want to convert to a .wav file. I converted these files using a dubbing cable (speaker out to mic in). I have done this before with other arrangment files without any problems, but with this prarticular .arr file the the .wav output is not a true duplication of the .arr. In this case some of the track instruments are muffled when I listen to the .wav output. I am not sure if you would call this distortion? Could this be a sound card problem, since the original .arr file sounds fine coming thru the speakers, but when we convert to a .wav it sounds noticably different.
Thanks,
Ray

A different way of transfering your midi sequences
would be to plug the MIDI Out from your Atari into
the MIDI In on your XP machine then play the Atari
sequences while you record them in VST.
Alternatively if you can access an older version
of windows you can copy the files from the disks
you use with your Atari onto a stardard 2HD 1.44MB
floppy disk which XP will then be able to read.
I hope this helps,
Jason.
best source for mp3
Which site is the best source mp3's on the net? I've heard some good things about kazaa.
Re: best source for mp3
The useful part of Kazaa is not the site itself but the file-sharing software it has created. You can download it from this site in the mp3 section and I also have heard good things about it.

WinMX and Aimster are also good.

Master Tracks Pro
I want to buy a CD of Master Tracks Pro for Mac system 9.2. GVOX
(gvox.com), from whom I bought my last copy, has apparently gone out of
business. I don't need anything like MOTU's Performer since I am only
doing simple midi sequencing.
Anyone out there have any suggestions?

octapad vs SPD-8
Hi, I want to know the real differences between the octapad and the
SPD-8...the octapad has trigger inputs but NO sounds...while the SPD-8 has
sounds but NO trigger inputs. Is this the only thing?
Can someone give me more insight on this topic?
I want to buy a drum pad midi controller that can also receive input from
drum triggers and if possible, has good sounds....not so expensive, either.
Now, if the sounds of the SPD-8 are crappy then the OCTAPAD would be the
best choice, isn't it? What about the OCTAPAD II? How much would be a
reasonable price for them?
many thanks, Blas

Fewer pads too, IIRC.

Check out the SPD-20. It has everything you want if it's within
your cost/pain threshold. I have its predecessor SPD-11 and have been
very satisfied.

Help! I can't send and receive patches from my 6trak
Hey all;
I've got a problem with voice 2 on my Sequential Circuits 6trak, and I want
to back up all my patches before I try to fix it. I've tried using 6pat,
sysexlib, and Bomes' sys ex utility, and I can't get any of them to sent a
message to my 6trak. I can send a patch (at least I think it's the patch) to
any one of the above mentioned apps, but after it gets there and I try to
send it back, nothing happens. I've got the soundcard's in/outs configured
correctly. Any ideas as to how I can get the patchs on to the HD so I can
restore them to the synth later?
Thanks

Behringer 8024 & MIDI Remote Control
Does anyone have any experience with the Behringer 8024 and their remote
control software. I'm also looking for a type of monitor program to sniff
whats flowing over the midi channel.
