Best MP3 Editor (cut copy paste) for HUGE (up to 2gb) files

Hey.. I've tried about a hundered different mp3 editors, none of which have successfully been able to edit large (up to 2gb) mp3 files. They are really long recordings (up to 5 hours) and I need to cut them down, but cannot find any software that will load the file, or cut it, without re encoding a new file. Any ideas? Thanks

Audiogalaxy mp3 To Mpeg How?

Hitsquad Update 7 June - Message Search, 300 Updates, CEP 2.0

Hello Everyone,

We've been busy little beavers recently and we've got a
couple of exciting announcements this week...
<ol>
<li><b><a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/wwwboard/#post">Message Search</a></b>

Something you guys & gals have been asking for...

If you look just above the 'Post A Message' form near
the top of the message board you will find a search
form that lets you search through the messages.

At this stage we just have the messages from May
onwards, hopefully we'll get the time to add earlier
messages to the search database over the next couple
of weeks.

You won't see your new messages in the search engine
as soon as you post it - we will be filtering and
updating every few days.

<li><b><a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/">Updated Software Downloads</b>
You may have noticed that there were many files in the
download area of this site which haven't been available
over the last few months. This problem has hit many
download sites this year as site after site hosting
files has shut down or restricted access (in some cases
access is only available if you pay a fee).

Over the last few weeks we have updated over 300 of the
software listings on this site and we'll make about the
same number of updates over the coming couple of weeks
- we're aiming to be the most effective download site
of our kind in the world.

<li><b><a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/news/1350/">New Sponsor - Cool Edit Pro 2.0</b></b>
If you haven't already noticed, Syntrillium (the Cool
Edit people) are now sponsoring SMM!

I have to recommend you check out the new Version 2.0
of Cool Edit Pro, however I am biased but not because
they're a sponsor, but rather Cool Edit has been my
personal favorite since 1996 and it still is.

Remember to support our sponsors- that way we can keep
the dreaded pop-ups off this site and keep the current
free services free for everyone.

Brilliant!

You rock!

Re: Brilliant!

: You rock!

Thanks but so do Carly, Geoff, Charles, and Leanne,
and a couple of hundred very helpful software producers
- this is a huge team effort!

Although I must say that sometimes your cryptic
comments go over my head though :)

Jason.

Re: Brilliant!

You all rock, then. The picture was of the
"Dome of the Rock" in Jerusalem. No reason.
Just a visual pun. No steganography. Still,
Jerusalem used to be an international plac peace
and cultural interexchange as are interesting web sites
of today. Cryptic is the way to be. When our language
evolves, so do we. I don't always make sense, but I
try. You 'd be surprised at all the weird things one
can say and still be understood. Sometimes it's just
experimental, other times i have a specific communicative
agenda. It depends upon who i know or suspect is tuning in.

Well, I do enjoy puns though. Eventually, I might start
embedding more shashlik into my posts, but I figure
there's enough detrius upon the wwwboard.

Probably the most cryptic are the posts about Registry
hacks though. Still, all the stuff I say about hackers
and the like is my honest opinion based upon facts and
experiences and observations. I have the hope that I can
persuade some kind musicians and other peaceful folks
to accept the peaceful side of the "dark net".

Electronic music may someday become a vehicle for
peaceful yet cryptic and essential communication, at least
while online. So, yes, I do have somewhat of a minor
agenda. But mostly, I just like musical progress.
I realize that there are some boring things that I know
that might be helpful to others in the long run if I
share them.

The first time I ever learned of the internet was when
my computer science major college friends shared their
downloaded .MOD songs and players for me to see and
hear. It was definately a pleasant new experience.

The internet really hasn't come along that far when
it comes down to it. My friends were sneaking into a
computer room late at night to download porn and music and to chat.
They'd also send each other jokes and notes and chain letters
via email. So little has really changed. Pictures and
sounds will always be popular.

Later on, a different friend of mine showed me some
cool animation and sound programs on his Amiga. He
told me a bit about the history of "Toasters" and how
a bunch of hackers would get together every couple of
months to get drunk and program some really cool animation,
sound, system utility and game programs.

Well, during my first year of college, the ones who
pushed the pre-web envelope were all hackers. I remember
lots of animations done with escape codes on VT-whatever
VAX terminals. Lots of FTP was going on too. I was naive
at the time thinking that it would never get so popular or
mainstream. The funny thing is, just before I left that
school, I was planning on creating my own secret automated graphical
file server (aka website) on the school's computer. I
later decided that it would be a waste of time and started
focusing more on recording and composing music.

At some point later on back then, I stumbled onto your site, i think.
Or perhaps it was harmonycentral. Well, I knew about Info-Mac
and other (MIT) FTP sites, so I started getting into downloads.

My first heavy sound synthesis was done on a Mac SE with
two floppy disk drives (and no hard drive) I think it had
1 MB of RAM. I was using SoundEdit 1.0 from the original
MacRecorder (AD converter). Last time I checked, SoundEdit 1.0
still ran on system 7.6.1. Maybe it runs on MacOS 8 or 9, or even
X, but I lost all my copies of it.

Well, surely I'm boring you to death with all of this,
but I figured that since I post on here so much, you
ought to know more about me. I'll probably be signing
up as a registered member in about a week. I know it's
not easy running all of this web site and business and stuff.
For people like me, it's a great toy, but I do acknowledge
all your hard work and craftsmanship and networking. I typically
only go to a few web sites regularly, and this is one of
them.

What you need to know about KaZaA and file sharing communities

It is a proven fact that file sharing community systems
are rampantly infested by viruses, worms, and trojan horses
of the worst kind. For example there is a lot of adware and
spyware. These programs are specifically designed to infiltrate
your system and allow other people to examine, change, and control
your system and your online identity without your permission.

If you don't believe me, ask around, do some research.
The truth with show itself to you.

Re: What you need to know about KaZaA and file sharing communiti

Just to add a little to the comments of the torch
formally known as....

Someone I know (who shall remain nameless - and it
wasn't me) downloaded a heap of software from file
sharing networks a couple of years ago and the
resulting virus infection was so bad he lost his
hard drive.

Sorry folks, don't think that someone who distributes
stolen software is suddenly going to nice when it
comes to you and your computer.

Jason.

Virus World...

The simple fact is that the majority of computer users at home are being hacked by corporations (nations on mass are dumb and in capable of unity and understanding solutions of good and bad, as a group).

Governments like the ability to be able to watch what their tax payers are up to. The advent of the fast and hard internet connection has made it sooo easy for them to take control. Marketting are in your 'puters whether you like it or not. Your information is NOT secure at any time.

Simple way out for the moment. Get away from the MS monopoly. Get rid of windows, especially XP as it appears the god father of easy access. Use what you like, this isn't an advert. Stand in the line of fire and get shot if you want..

I finally traced some of my strange system changes
back to the day that I downloaded MacPuke and MacPort.

Whoever is reading this, DON'T RUN tHOSE PROGRAMS.

I know those are potentially hack tools, but don't be fooled,
the only one who will get hacked is you. I have been aware
of the existence of trojan hacks in trojan hackware, but this
was the first time I experienced it firsthand.

I am typically not interested in hacking other people's systems,
but I downloaded these programs because I thought it might be nice
to have some weapons of defense. There have been times when I've been
taunted by interlopers.

I guess the best tool against hacking is creative
reconfiguration and offline removable media storage, etc.

It seems that fresh installing system software, and
deactivating adware, and defragging work well together.

I also like to delete most hidden (invisible files).
Most invisible files are custom icons that can be rebuilt
by the system. Sometimes I discover an odd icon that looks
more like a TEXT file than an icon. Maybe this is evidence
of creeping bullshit.

well, i share my experiences with the internet so that
future readers will benefit.

I am the firewall. The byte stops here, in honor of Don Edwards

Interesting follow up SteveR. Or is that really you?
Typically you don't type in that style of diction, syntax, punctuation,
emotion or errors. Still, point taken. I wish you sounded a bit
more optimistic, but then again, i prefer facts to optimism.

I tend to agree that electroinfo has been shanked.

Interest thing is, ever since I started this branch of conversation,
my computer has been showing minor signs of tampering. This is totally
wrong since no one else ought to be using my system but me.

I can take a hint. I just challenge my attacker to understand me if
they can. I'm a much bigger puzzle than any system I ever use.

Consider it. Of course, true hackers have tried to
warn us about these ills. Some of the early publicized
DDOS attacks on Ebay and such may have been a backlash
against the unbridled commercialization of the web. Sure,
it's okay to make money off the web, but to do it maliciously
is a crime. Hackers will always be against this evildoing.

If it weren't for hackers, computers would never be used to
make music either. Check your history books. The real computer
virus makers are corporations and/or con artists.

Don't get hacked, get mad.

Thanks for your comments, Jay. I'm glad you're aware of
these kinds of things too. I know I've been hacked.
Steve R has mentioned some security concerns as well.

I've even had online conversations with people who seem
to have hacked my system. Chat rooms are suspect.
Of course, when it comes down to it, the internet is
the most insecure, nonprivate, form of communication
ever invented.

JS to mp3

Anyone have any idea how to convert a js file to mp3 or wav?
Had this posed to me tonight by a friend who downloaded some tunes and they were all .js files.
he also got some .zib files which worked once he re-named to .zip but that idea did not work on the .js (java script??) files.

Experiments with removing vocals

Like most people who digitize music, I've often wondered what instrumental versions of my favorite songs sound like. I like listening to drums and getting rid of the vocals is occasionally an aid to my enjoyment...

What midi program to buy?

Can you recommend a decent midi making program that's low cost. I'm new to
this and just need to make a variety of simple midis. I won't be getting
into music seriously. Thanks.

Trance Bassdrums

Does anyone know where I can get free trance bassdrum samples? I have those
of Propellerhead Reason, but they are all a bit weak I think.

Re: Trance Bassdrums

Go to Yahoo and do a search for 'samples and loops'. You will find they have a large section of sites to explore. Best of luck.

Clicks while transferring MD to HD using Soundforge

Not sure if this is a hardware or software problem - when I transfer sound from MD to the hard drive using Soundforge (4.5), I get random 'clicks' - they are really there, it is not just my shitty speakers or something, I've seen their waveforms imprinted over the sound. It's really mucking up my thesis project, if I don't solve this problem soon I'll go out of my mind. I'm using a simple 1/8" jack (male-to-male) cable, there are no lightning storms outside my window, no radios, cell phones, any kind of interfering devices (the MD is running on batteries, so no power source interference). A thorny problem indeed - Soundforge help files indicate that these problems happen when you have slow hard drives - but this is my brand new one, an IBM deskstar (40 Gb) operating at 7400 rpm! But the rest of the computer is old (Duron K6 chip) and that's my fear -- I can't go out and buy a new one! I've got 128 Mb Ram and an older Soundblaster Live card, and I've already tried 'reducing memory overhead' according to SF help files. Any help is vastly appreciated! I will cling to your words like a man in a desert clings to cool water! Disregard after July 15th, 2002

Re: Clicks while transferring MD to HD using Soundforge

The problem can be to do with the soundcard as well. 1/8" jacks are pooh also.. Check for newer drivers.

Are you importing the music using any type of compression on the audio (like straight to Mp3) as it's written to disk? If you are trying to record and compress in real time then the power of your computer maybe a problem. I am not familiar with the chip.

I would try a different recording program. Most of them are just going to stream a wave file to your HD anyhow. There are many programs that will do it for you in the file area of this site..

Good Luck

SteveR

There's no place like home.

One of the biggest causes of clicks during recording is from the recording buffer(s) being
too few and/or not large enough. Buffers exist just to prevent these clicks. If you can
search for your DirectSound Setup tools you will be able to test and improve those buffers.
Another issues is if you have virtual memory turned on. Virtual memory can cause clicks
no matter how much hardware (physical) RAM you have. People say not to turn off virtual RAM,
but I have consistently found improvements by using REAL RAM instead of virtual RAM. Again,
try to figure out how to increase your audio driver buffers. Search your PC for applications,
then browse the application list for any applications with an icon that looks like a big "X"
in dark blue and yellow. This is one related program. Two other programs will be red and beige.
These other two programs are the main ones I'm looking for. One of them is used to configure
audio output, the other is used to configure audio input. The input one is the one you want.
I think it might be called DSSETUP.EXE or something like that.

Look hard. It's worth it if you find it. After that, you can increase the buffers.
Personally, I don't mind the increased visual lag time if it means that i won't have
clicks in my recordings.

If you are using a Mac, my apologies. I don't know what to tell you, except about
the virtual RAM.

I forgot...

And another thing. Even with lots of RAM, your
Windows system will hog it all unless you change
your registry with a program or manually. There is
a tiny edit which tells Windows to always unload DLL files
from RAM when they aren't in use. This is a huge improvement,
but it is usually not activated unless you do it yourself.

Also, you should download a program such as Memory Max to purge
your RAM when you click the button. These kinds of programs are
designed to kick garbage out of your RAM and allow programs to use
it. You can run Memory Max right away before you record and you will
have better recording results. But, it works better if you also
do the DLL unload hack. You can find this hack at...

How to export Fruity Loops project to Midi?

Midisoft with SB Audigy

I have Midisoft Worship Studio and it works horribly with my Sound Blaster Audigy. It locks up after playing for a few measures. Works fine with other MIDI software.
Any ideas?

What program do I download for my music needs?

I was using Fruity Loops 3.4 and wanted to start making some reggae music so I purchased a program called Reggae Grooves from Keyfax, and all I could do is see the music tracks and not hear them! So Keyfax suggested that I try one of the midi programs called Shareware, now wich one do you suggest that I use for what I would like to do?

Re: What program do I download for my music needs?

I think the idea with "Reggae Grooves" is that you use the Midi files to control a given midi instrument. A synth or drum machine for instance.

Soundcards have their own midi GM sounds generally and often more. You really need to work out what type of instrument you need to play the sounds from the midi files. I assume they are generally drum patches...

A midi file is playable with GM sounds with any Midi file player that contains a way of addressing your soundcard with midi OR a midi file player with it's own sounds.

Almost as good as the departed Napster music sampler was

Yes, I agree it is almost reaching Napster’s music sampler range, and certainly using it, as such it is a fabulous method to discover music that you want to purchase.

However, in the last several months it is becoming the only way to secure certain music to be played on the computer, since it has become impossible to purchase some CDs without copy protection. Why the industry is making the music, we want to purchase unavailable to a large purchasing base, in my opinion is stupid.

However, it is not my job nor do I need to answer company’s stockholders, about eliminating a large revenue base, in a less than stellar consumer market.
