Try Total Recorder. This records anything fed to the soundcard. The only drawback is a 15 minute recording limit.

Software can help you create music by synthesizing, sequencing, editing and recording your sounds as well as generating audio effects. Also, you can use software for writing notation, and keeping it organised(the sheet music piles up in my apatment, kinda messy) There are old fashioned forms of music before there were computers in wich you were stuck generating sounds by vibrating strings and such, these restrictions no longer exist. In the 20th and 21'st century, brilliant composers such as Morton Subotnick find themselves at home on laptop PC's.

Also, in the old days composers had to find musicians to play their music. Now a talented composer can simply program his or her music. However, often a little human touch amid the programming and stepsequencing can go along way. Some people are biased against new forms of musical expression such as Musique Concrete because all they hear is the nonsense on the radio, or at clubs. Rest assured however,these softsynths such as resktor are serious tools capable of producing works on par with anything Bach, or Bartok banged out in their day.

Once you've put data on a CD-R, that's it, you can't erase it. You can delete files,
but that doesn't remove them from the disc, all it does is remove the directory entry
for the file, so you don't get the space back. If you want to erase stuff, you need to
use CD-RW discs instead.

what you are asking is rather tricky and expensive. you would be better off going to a recording studio that already has timecode synchronized reels and adats. otherwise you will need to do a lot more serious research than just bbs bs on the web.

start with a manual for your adat lx. you'll need one in the future, anyhow, for maintennance. scour the manual for all info on your adat's inputs. you need a synchronization input. SMPTE, word clock, SPDIF, lightpipe, whatever. some digital data input is what you need. as soon as you know that, you'll know what format you need to deal with. you are also looking for info pertaining to locking, or slaving up your adat to SMPTE timecode, probably. I say this, because SMPTE timecode can be printed (striped) onto an analog tape track for playback as a master timecode signal.

you will probably require some kind of intermediary device in the middle. there are probably device capable of converting SMPTE timecode to adat external word clock.

I reccommend contacting a recording studio technician who works somewhere that tv commercials or movies are made. they deal with this stuff more, especially the older studios with the older technicians.

true, your computer could probably do the computations, but it might not be able to connect to the two other devices.

since the BRC remote control for an adat xt-20 still sells for as high as $1500, i would be that any synchronization gear to buy will be expensive, unless you can just use a simple small box to convert...

if i were you, i'd dump the tascam tsr-8 tracks into the computer as an audio multitrack project in a SMPTE program such as ProTools. and get a soundcard that has an ADAT digital output. That way you can sync your adat to your hard drive via the soundcard. You can sync your reel tracks to the adat with digital editing if needed the other way around.

perhaps i am totally off track. I just noticed an add for the TASCAM IF-TAD. It's a TASCAM TDIF to ADAT optical digital converter box. It has word sync out. The add says that any TDIF product can be linked to any product using an Alesis optical digital IO, including adats.

If this doesn't help, ask tascam if they sell anything that gives the tsr-8 TDIF digital output capability. Even if it's a digital mixer or something.

My 2100e writes cdg just fine, even at full speed, and I have heard that the 2200 will as well. It may have troubles reading CDG with CDRwin. Most users (and myself) end up with messy graphics when reading CD+G with the yammi. Mine will work if I read at 2x only.
