Huh?
Your telling me that Guitar Tracks wont mix down to a wave file? Are you sure? I thought it was a standard sequencer.
Are you sure that the .wrk files aren't just the saved song files? what is the filw size? it should be large, 10megs per song minute(ish).

real audio files
i would like to be able to put real audio files on to cd so they can be played in any stereo how can i do this
thanks
Re: real audio files
: i would like to be able to put real audio files on to cd so they can be played in any stereo how can i do this
This is how i do it.
1. Most streamimg audio's have hidden URL. I use URLSnooper to find out the hidden URL of the .rm file.
2. Then i launch Streambox VCR from within URLSnooper to download the .rm file.
3. Once the .rm file is in my hard disk. I use Streambox Ripper to convert it to either
<> a wave file if i want it burnt to a CDRom for listening with a CD player; or
<> a MP3 file if i want it for listening with a computer or MP3 player.
So, the tools i used are..
1. URL Snooper
2. Streambox VCR (gone underground)
3. Streambox Ripper (gone underground)
Should be able to find copy of them in the Net.
Need Help MD Recording.
For some time now I have been attepmting to record from a Sony Minidisc Deck Recorder onto a PC and then onto CD. I believe that this is possible but can not find out how. Anyone know how?
Two Easy ways..
Find out if your audio/soundcard has SP/DIF. Find out if you MD has SP/DIF. Get an optical (if the MD has an SP/DIF Optical output) to coaxial (phono connection) convertor from a hifi shop. (I think M-Audio do one).
Connect the MD to the computer and get a recording program from this site to record the SP/DIF input on your sound/audio card.
If you don't have SP/DIF on your sound/audio card, get a minjack stereo to soundcard in (tell us your soundcard) and then record with a similar program.

cutting and pasting vocals
I'm trying to write a piece of music where I just use vocal samples of notes as sung by my friends. I get them to record 2 octaves worth of notes in two different styles, one long and mellow the other short and sharp. The problem comes when I try to loop the samples together to create longer notes or continuous melodies. I always get a bump in the sound where the two connect. I looked up the help option in Steinberg Wavelite and it made some reference to ' zero cutting ' but I cannot seem to activate it and really dont know what its about. Can somebody help me ?
Zero Cutting...
Zero cutting is where the application will cut the audio wave at the closest point to the cut point you've selected, where there is 'no' audio information.
This doesn't work with ALL audio waves as it requires that there is virtual silence somewhere useably close to your cut point.
In essence, it's not actually offering you something that you can't already do by zooming in on a wave (after setting your cut point) and editing 'around' the area you want to cut. 'Fading' and 'Silencing' areas around the cut point isnt so hard and can get rid of those pops and, especially clicks.
Zero cutting can work well and I suspect it may do with your situation.

iMic..feedback needed desperately!
I'm on the verge of buying an iMic as the cheapest(not to mention the only one available over here in Cairo!) way of bypassing my ridiculous soundcard and going USB.
The reason I want it is that I depend heavily on my own samples either mic'ed in or ported through from my walkman.
Has anyone tried it/got one/heard about it/got a friend who met a guy who's wifes ex used menage a trois with one? I'd really appreciate any info and opinions.

Re: iMic..feedback needed desperately!
There were mixed reviews with this unit when it came out although they might have been driver issues that maybe resolved. I like the idea and the price is reasonable for a device that converts from analogue audio to digital 'away' from the noise of a computers transformer etc.
I strongly suspect that multitracking with this unit will bring big latency (delay) issues but as an analogue input, it will exceed the quality of the base Mac's built in audio controller for more than one reason..
I direct you to the link below as a place which will give you a very fast and decent answer for anything Mac related.

how to use Total recorder program with Easy CD Create?
I just got the Total Recoder program as you adviced. It seem confusing to me. How can I set up the program and using my Easy CD create 4 to convert VCD music to CD music. Please help. Thank you very much.
Re: how to use Total recorder program with Easy CD Create?
The two programs should be used separately. You should use
Total Recorder to record the soundtrack from your VCD first,
then use Easy CD to write the files to CD. I've not used
Total Recorder much, but I'll have a look at it, see if I
can provide a more definitive answer.

Andy - Total Recorder Feed Back?
How is this program Andy, As I understand it will allow radio & most any other input - separating the files - for the editor program...
Wondering - if you have more information ready to post or a link to informative review of these products - if I remember there are two different programs. One to record, then you use the editor to seperate the selections...

Here's how to improve Mac program memory.
1) Select your application(s)2) Menu:Finder:File:Get Info: (or "Memory" in newer systems)3) Make sure that the Minimum memory size is bigger or equal to the Suggested size. 4) Make sure that the Preferred size is bigger or equal to the Suggested size. 5) Press tab a few times to make sure the changed text fields are registered by the operating system. 6) Close the information window. For example...Here is the Get Info window for a program. Let's pretend that it is a memory-hungry audio program, but it's programmers set the minimum memory size too low (512 K) when it really needs as much as the suggested size. The solution is as thus:Suggested Size: 1000 K Minimum Size: 1000 K (changed from 512 K)Preferred Size: 32000 K (changed from 1000 K)Done!Good luck mac people. If you really want to make your system a bit more stable, do this for all of your applications on your system, wherever possible. This insures that you will get less memory crashes.
Re: Here's how to improve Mac program memory.
Good info.
I will add that some software manufacturers have tried to insert code into their applications that make them adjust memory dynamically. I have had one problem with this after adjusting the memory myself (standard practice with almost every major application for me).
OSX does this automatically which is favourite...

line recording on computer
I'm sorta new to this whole "computer audio recording" stuff. However, my question is this...I need to know if I can record from a line source (i.e. tape deck, turntable, vcr etc. to my computer and save directly as an mp3 file instead of a wav file. If this is possible does anyone know what software I should use to do this? And if so, is it available on music machine.com?
Re: line recording on computer
Try http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Claudio/
This prorgam is supposed to 'export MP3', so I can only
assume it will write straight to MP3 rather than go through the
WAV - MP3 conversion route.

smart & friendly cd burner comp. software
Hi I got several smart & friendly cdrw burners off an auction site I didnt recieve any software and I have tried 4 different software and none of them recognize the burners evan though I can loud the software with the burners. They have gone Out of buisness and they have no website or any support If anyone has or knows what software that will work with it would be much appr.
reply to smart and friendly cdrw drives
I have a CD turbo writer rw drive with the original CD software. I don't know what drives you have bought? I cannot find anything on the web that offers support for the drive. The software on the cd is Adaptec Easy CD Creator, Power Quest Drive Image, Sonic Foundry CD Architect, Diamond Cut Audio Restoration Tools 32, MediaPath Media Agent, ECI Disc Inspector Pro, and CD Consultant. What operating system do you want to use the drives with? Send me an email if you are interested.

RECORDING STREAMED AUDIO
ie internet radio in the UK is there a way i can record it onto my hard drive to edit bits that i want???
thanks in advance
Re: RECORDING STREAMED AUDIO
I have a macintosh program called MacAmp that does this. There maybe a windows version if that's your platform.
There are others but this one (records to Mp3 directly, or wave file) from any URL inserted radio stream, (that I have tried).

Re: RECORDING STREAMing AUDIO
But does it work on streaming audio with hidden URL? (Most streaming audios have hidden URL.)
And does it *record* the streaming audio or *download* the audio file? (For the diference, read my below message..

Advice needed
I have old lp's I want to convert to cd. My amp/receiver has no phono input or output. I have been told that it would be ok to use the cd input/output instead. Will this work ok?
Not really...
There isn't a phono output (record player level) on an amp. I can't see there being any point.
CD inputs are like any aux or tape input. Line level and that's it.
Go to a hifi shop and procure a phono conditioning box which has a line level output and a phono input. They will know what you are talking about ..

editing music
I need to learn how to edit music. I have a home made tape that has some back ground noise and i need to edit or filter it out. What is the best software for this type of editing? also I may need to edit out voice. If someone could guide me in the right dirction please

Re: editing music
Steinberg Clean for restoring old recordings. There are also various PlugIns (eg Sonic Foundry Noise Reduction, Waves Restoration Bundle) that you can use in programs like Wavelab, Sound Forge or Cool Edit. Also, have a look at the AUDIO RESTORATION section in the software listings on this site.
There are some vocal eliminators out there, but they're all pretty much crap - I wouldn't bother...peace.

Reason Software
I am fairly new to using Music Software on my PC. I am using Reason 1.0.1 to do all my music on my PC. I have a Yamaha SW1000XG sound card.
My question is, after i have recorded all my music on my PC and then want to include vocals on to my tracks, I would want to go into a studio and record the vocals (as the acoustics will be much better and beter microphones etc). I also want to add sme more percussion sounds on to my tracks which I would want to record in a studio. How would I go about doing this, i.e. can I take an audio CD with all my music in converted to audio anf then add vocals somehow that way ??
Or would I have to take my PC into the studio and connect a microphone up that way ?
When I decide to master the tracks can I take an audio CD in and then master that ?? Or do I have to take my PC in and then they master each channel that way??
Please can someone help me out as I don't have a clue which is the best approach.
thanks
DJ Deep
Re: Reason Software
The best way is to keep it in the computer and master it to a CD as individual tracks. This way, you will be able to offer all the tracks to any system the studio may own. make sure that the tracks start and end at the same point as the others otherwise you may find yourself spending money to watch the engineer try and sync everything up again.
If you continually play the song and mute everything but one of the instruments whilst mixing down to a wave file then they should all sync together without issue.
The studio you use should be consulted though as they maybe happied with the PC in the studio. I would just take the perfectly timed tracks on a CD in 24bit as wave/SDII or aiff files and be done with it.

Re: Reason Software
Steve,
OK so let me just summarise what you are saying and let me know if I have understood you correctly.
I record a song, its instruments are recorded on a number of tracks in the sequencing package. So you are saying that I should convert each track ino wave or aiff format. But ensure that each one is of the same length.
Then copy that onto a CD, then let the sound engineer load each track into whichever sequencing package he has in the studio (as the files will be audio wave files right?) And then he will be able to master each track separately?
That way, I can record vocals in the studio and any percussion and incorporate hat into my song?
Have I understood that correctly?
Cheers,
DJ Deep
