I want to find out what exactly it is that I need in order to began recording good music at home. I've been singing all my life but I dont know much about studio equipment. I have your basic compaq computer and also I have a Roland 1700 MIDI keyboard. I want to find out what other equipment I need in order to make quality music....Oh I forgot a friend of mine just gave me two programs Cakewalk Homestudio 9.0 and the other is called LOGIC homestudio.

I did the same thing. But I have a registered copy of Total Recorder (yes I paid for it). Anyway, I played the music on Real Player and recorded it in Total Recorder and then saved it as an MP3. A little cumbersome, but I saved the music.

I have a Sony MD which has all my bacing tracks on. i play in a duo and recently when i plugged in my base guitar the disk was skipping, i didnt have this problem when my acoustic was plugged in can anyone help me???

....that's it's corrupt. It maybe that you need to download it again or the actual place you are downloading it from has a corrupt version. Try getting it from somewhere else like the publishers site... If that works then tell the place you downloaded the corrupt version from about their problem...

That's because Liquid employs software to stop people from copying files without authorisation. There's no software that allows you to crack the protection as that would be breaking the law.

MD4 + TripleDAT

Hello!

I have a computer running TripleDAT HD-rec.
I have 2 mono channels IN (Or 1 stereo)

I also have a MD-4 Yamaha Mini-data-disc-recorder.
I wanna record drums on the MD-4, and after recording
them i want each track to be recorded into the computer.

This i know how to do.

But I also want the 4 tracks to be in perfect SYNCH,
when they enter the HD-rec program.

This I don´t have the solution to, does a sync expert?

MTC.. sync'ing feeling..

MTC (midi time code) should solve the problem, I suggest that you read the MD-4 manual and look for Midi Sync and MTC settings within the machine. The basic deal is to have the
MD-4 set as the MTC 'Slave' and make sure that a Midi lead is connected out from the computers Midi interface (you'll need one) to the Midi in on the MD-4. The computer sequencer will then have to be set up to send MTC information down that midi line and correspond to the MTC Frame rate (FPS) on the MD-4.

I do this with the Roland VS880 and it works very well. I have to set the VS to 'EXT SYNC' and set the FPS in Logic Audio (Mac) to 30FPS which is the VS default. I then have to press play/record on the VS to set the play light flashing which means it's waiting for a midi sync signal. When I press start in Logic, the VS starts playing/recording. This makes hardware multitrack to software computer based audio transfer flawlessly easy..

Midi problem

I have a Midi Translator 11 that I used to play my Yamaha PSR-79, along with Miracle Piano System 2.0. I have a Mac G3/400 beige and white with 192mb ram. I use to run 8.6 and recently installed 9.1. I had used the Piano System and decided to start playing again. I reinstalled it and hooked up my Midi 11., into my modem port and had all the proper connections but when I open my Piano software, it would play the introduction and then stop and all my menu selections would be grayed out. I noticed while the intro was playing that the green led (out) signals were being recognized but I cannot get the red led to come on. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have tried to use the program with all the extensions off but the midi manager but still no luck.

...to see if the problem continues. I assume you meant a G3 beige as I don't think there is a beige and white mac. If this is the case, then I have found that midi apps will just address the printer or modem port without any additional software like OMS.

There is chance that OS 9 has brought problems with compatibility with the programs (I am not familiar with them i'm afraid). Tell me more about the programs themselves and I will see if I can figure out an alternative...

Automatically inserting track pauses

There's probably an easy solution, but does anyone know how to insert pauses into an mp3...I've got some live recordings that are recorded as one complete mp3, and I'd like to insert pauses between individual tracks so that when I burn it to a CD I can search through the songs instead of having one huge track.

You can use lp-recorder (if you have low-level volumes between songs in recording) but first you have to do mp3>wav (search articles about it in forum), so it can cut the songs into small pieces where the volume goes to low (mean break times). then in recording software (nero for example, it can put 2 min [standart but you can increase time between tracks] silence between tracks) burn your wav files into CDA format. Also you can use any editing tool (for example WaveLab is my favoritte 'cos it works real time and lightning speed) for inserting silence
and for more realistic sound you can apply fade out effect for the end of tracks. need more? contact via e-mail or icq uin#1691211

Converting rmx(realaudio) files to mp3 is difficult, but i've found a way...realnetworks has banned most rippers that feature this, but thanks to a plugin, winamp, and cdex ripper, its possible. first, you have to have winamp. then download the tara av plugin, you should be able to find it on the winamp plugin website(winamp.com/plugins. this will enable winamp to play rmx files. select this input, and the diskwriter output...just hit ctrl+p to go to the menu. this will convert the files to wav files, but you'll need to delete the old rmx files to save memory. the cdex ripper(you'll have to download that one too) will change wav files to mp3's...there is an option to delete the wav file after completion, this will save you time. you have to set up all your preferences in cdex, for filenames, but its not too hard. all in all, the process takes about two minutes, but it varies by song. be sure to check the names of your new mp3 files, i think there is a problem with that on winamp playing rmx files.
