Scan to midi
Is there a good software title i could use that will scan sheet music and convert to midi?
Also, is there something i could write the music in myself, including changes in key signatures, timing, etc., then play it back through midi, and be able to edit it...
i know i might be reaching here... but i'm sure if it can be done, i'll find it here...

Noteworthy composer is great for scoring stuff yourself. Do a search for it on google.

MTC remote control problem
For some months I've been pulling my hair out trying to get my Yamaha AW4416 and my pc to work together. I"m using Fruity Loops for drums, but Fruity won't work as a Midi Time Code slave. So I figure I'll get some sequencer software which does accept MTC to export my loops to. But I can't find anyone in Australia that can offer any advice at all. Yamaha and their dealers are useless, and Fruity Loops and forum were no help. Does anyone know what I need to do - all I want is to be able to press play on my HD recorder (the AW4416) and have my PC drums start playing too. Is this really such a difficult thing to do as it appears? The only software I've been recommended is Cubase, but I'm not spending $800 on VST when I'm not going to use the rest of the program, which in my experience is shite anyway. Please, somebody help!!
Master and Slave...
Cubase isn't &$^£ if you think Fruityloops is good... It's the other way around if anything...
Cubase comes in cheaper versions than $800 so look harder. There have been some Logic audio Fun giveaways which will work fine as MTC slaves or masters... There are more options than you are claiming basically.. less than £100 gets me a 16 track audio (plus endless midi track) sequencer.
If Fruitloops can't play slave then make it the master and then the yamaha the slave.. Even if you don't continue to use the system in this way, at least you can learn how to set it up... There are a couple of general things to consider with MTC...
1. Which device is master or slave..
2. The frame rate that the two devices are working at. Some default to 25fps while others to 30 (or 29.9). It is important to set the slave to the FPS of the master.
3. The MTC master should be sending out MTC information on the same midi port as the slaves midi input. The slave should be 'Primed' to start playing or recording whenever it receives a go command from the MTC master...
Some of these things aren't easy to setup at first but you'll have to realise that you are working in a professional environment, despite the availability to the general public. MTC is a simple procedure that takes time and experience to setup. It demands manual reading for the various devices and patience. Nothing is that easy in the music world of computers and technology. If you blame yamaha dealers for not helping you set up an MTC environment then you are off course. They make the kit, you learn how to use it...

Drum machine sound to tracks
How do you record the exact drum sound from a drum machine to your tracks on the keyboard. I am using an Alesis SR 16 and a Korg N364 workstation, and when I try to record my drum track, I can her my drums being played only during recording, but for playback I get my keyboards drum sounds. My question is how do keep my original drum machine sounds during record and playback. Any help woud be greatly appreciated.

Explain...
Please explain what connections you have made with Audio leads and Midi leads first and explain how you are recording the drums into your keyboard. Does it sample or are you using the Sequencer to record the notes themselves....

I have my Korg N364 music workstation midi in connected to my Alesis SR 16 drum machine out.The keyboard has a 16 track midi seqencer, multi effects processor etc. I do not as of yet have a real amp, so I am using an old stereo rec out and the main Aux line on the drum machine for my power/sound source. When I real-time record Midi channel 10, I get hear the drums that I want played being played, but when I playback I can only us the drum combos that are on my N364. How do I keep the drum machines drum sound the same for playback as it does record? So yes in a sense it does sample or record my drum/rythm pattern, but playback is not same sounds. Do I need to try and record drums off my keyboard and try to macth them with pitch bend?
Aha...
It sounds like you are playing the drum sounds with the drum machine although the drum machine has no midi IN from the Korg which means anything that is played from the korg;s sequencer is never going to get back to the drum machine. My experience with drum machines or any midi module is to have it slaved from the sequencer, In other words, you should have the Korgs midi output running in to the midi input on the drum machine. This means you would have to play the drum machine from the keyboard itself and then make sure that the Korg's internal drum patch is not on the same midi channel as the drum machine, (Ch10). In this way, anything you record on the keyboard will always be heard on the drum machine whether it's being recorded or played back.
If the drum machine has some patches that you like OR you use some of the drum pads as a preference for recording, then connect a midi out from the drum machine to the midi in on the keyboard, program the patches and then play them back and you should hear them. Make sure though that you use Midi OUT from the drum machine rather than a midi THRU. Playing a preset patch on the drum machine whilst recording the output midi channel on the korg should ensure that that information is recorded. In essence, this is bouncing midi information from the drum machines song mode, into the korg....
Good luck

Best Bootleg Restoration Program?
I love bootlegs, but hate the hiss and chattering on some of the rare recorings I have. Are there any programs that will eliminate the hiss and maybe some of the crowd chatter.
Thanks

Some of the good programs for hiss removal are WavClean[very good and inexpensive] Raygun, and Cool Edit has great hiss removal. You can probably get rid of some of the the crowd noise with a noise gate.
Re: Best Bootleg Restoration Program?
There are several programs (in the software section) which will attempt to remove noise
although I can't vouch for how effective they are. As for removing specific parts of the
recording, that's virtually impossible without either removing other parts at the same
time or affecting the tone balance of the recording.

How to contract/expand selections?
For ex., you have a sample with 2 sec. and want to mix it within a song, but you need to transform that 2sec selection in a longer one (3 sec for example) in order to fit perfectly. How do you do that?
Thanks a lot for the help.
Re: How to contract/expand selections?
I would love to know which are the best programs for doing this aswell. as currently i use a Mac and protools to do it but it doesnt sound the best.
HELP would be great!
timestretching
timestretching software is what u want eg Time Factory. There are some other apps to do it and i think some audio editors will also stretch a sample while keeping it in the same key.
