Karaoke
I have an IBM Net Vista, I don't have much technical knowledge and have bought a microphone and a Karaoke DVD. I don't seem to be able to make it work. Has anyone got any ideas about what I have to do.

Kozida, Andy P, Coolguy--You Can Remove Vocals From Tracks
My audio gurus tell me that since the vocals are on the centre channel or recorded at the same level on the left and right channel you can invert the phase of one of the channels and voila you have stripped the vocals and of course any other centre stereo track like lead solos. If you have a PC then an advanced editor like SoundForge should do it, and if you have a Mac then Peak or ProTools or even Cubase might do it. Now I want to try it and I want someone who has done it to tell me how exactly to do it. I believe that is how the sofisticated karaoke machines work. There was software which was free for the Mac called CD Equalizer and you paid a small fee to upgrade but I just found a more recent address but no site. Thats how I found you guys.

Re: Kozida, Andy P, Coolguy--You Can Remove Vocals From Tracks
This is true that you can achieve center cancellation through phase inversion. The issue is that in order to cancel something this way the signal must be mixed dead center. Most mixes now days are going to have information panned out from center. The main vocal may be dead center but often times the mix engineer will pan out the reverb tails and such in order to achieve more depth and spaciousness so these aspects will not cancel. Also if there is an integral part other than the vocal in the center it will disappear too.

Re: Kozida, Andy P, Coolguy--You Can Remove Vocals From Tracks
Thanx,
I was concerned that a few people were replying to all the questions and were not fully aware of all the answers which myself and others are trying to find. There is a good article on how to do it in SoundForge and CoolEdit at

enjoy and I hope that my post has been a catalyst in solving this problem.

Hey!
this site is very, very good!
Anyone posting crack or serial requests...
Any message posted requesting a crack or serial will not be answered, but deleted, email and IP details recorded. Most individuals posting such messages are aware of what they are doing but consider themselves above the law, or that the law does not apply to the Internet. It does on this site. So to those people posting such messages, do not waste your time and the time of the genuinely helpful posters on this discussion forum. For those that do not realize that requesting a software crack or serial is illegal, now you do.
Thank you to the users helping out posters. We appreciate your presence on this discussion forum.
SMM
Serial Psychosis...
All you idiots who think that this site is a serial search engine guess again.
All serials requested on this site are available on specific sites (warez too).
Use a search engine with proper keywords, and if you don't find it try reading about cracking (all info & crack utilities are available for free on the net), and do it yourself.
If you're good at it, join a crack team or sth, but try to remember that some assholes (like me) are still trying to answer some decent questions on THIS site.
Use Google search engine...
Re: bullshit
Tell it to yo momma Kevin, as you become everyone's fave shower buddy in the big house.
: I needed a serial number for the cake walk groove maker because I just borrowed it from my brother and he doesnt have the case or box for the software. If you want to right my name down, you can tattoo it on your ass! I dont care, because you might as well be calling me a crook.
Re: bullshit
Gee, Kevin, can I "borrow" your liver? And, hmmmm, just where did your brother get Cakewalk from?
Re: Anyone posting crack or serial requests...
I think SMM are doing a great job. You have a warning message clearly displayed and wares posts are regularly removed. Short of putting a FBI man on the board 24/7 with a note pad + pen you are doing everything anyone could expect. Let's not make the minority waste it for the rest of us or get us down. I ignore them and they get no replies here so everything's cool by me.
Is it possible to loop the midi u record in cakewalk????
how can i do this, i aint for playing the wholeeeeeee song, just want to play a lil, then loop it
wav2midi
Hi,
I'm a looking for a copy of wav2midi, demo preferably, version 1.5
but it must be from before jan 2000, as the engine was updated after that time.
I am a registered user of wav2midi and I'm only asking here because my emaills to their
tech support have'nt been replyed.
Anyway if you can help drop me a mail please as I really need to get hold of a copy.
Ady Harling
Intelliscore is a wav2midi converter
The program wav2midi was offered by a company called Audioworks, but they seem to be out of business.
I recommend you try Intelliscore. It converts WAV, MP3, and CD to MIDI. Also, it works with music that contains more than one note at a time (wav2midi did not).
Download it from www.intelliscore.net
audio in for DP
Hi I don't really know what I'm doing in Digital Performer and I can't hear my audio in from my guitar into my mac but after I record I can hear the recording play back. I can't remember the menu that I can set the audio to always play through. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Re: audio in for DP
You have to enable "Audio Patch Thru" and this will allow you to monitor your sound while recording.

Re: audio in for DP
i don't know the program but the problem could be with your soundcard settings? u may have to unmute something in the recording options.

Re: how do you convert mp3 files to CDA
There are numerous programs which can convert mp3 to WAV or CDA (both of which can be read by a CD player). Have a look through the software section.

By posting common questions that are allready in the Tutorial & Advices section, or the forum page itself (and you're too lazy to scroll down), you make people who post unique questions wait longer (or forever) for a descent answer, AND those of us who want to help you less patient and more irritating (see forum for details)..
REMEMBER the BASICS:
Always give more information than you think is necessary (PC info, soundcard model, synth's brand, software used etc), and remember that NOONE will ask you if you use CRACKED software unless it is part of your problem. WAREZ software is illegal -don't search here for it. Every site's Administrator has the right to provide proper authorities incriminating evidence and YOU could go to JAIL for posting a warez request (the bunch of numbers next to your post's name is your IP,which can be used to TRACE you or to submit to your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and claim your REAL NAME & ADRESS for further actions...
Lots of people are willing to help on this forum, but since this forum is getting helper "unfriendly", kozida might soon be a thing of the past regarding this forum.

I have been trying to record music from a tape player to my desk top. I first listen to the tracks through my sound card and it sounds good. However when I try to record it with musicmatch jokebox, or easy cd..ie "spin dortor" it records it but it sounds real bad. Might you know of a better softwear to use? Also what program would I need to have and use to be able to clean up the tracks. You know make the voices and sound, sound better. Remove background noice. Would like to be able to record old tapes and make them sound almost like new. Please help....Thanks

Re: Music editing softwear
Depending on what type of audio card you have you can probably improve audio quality by getting a card with decent converters and a decent clock w/ low jitter. Most consumer cards (cards that come with your computer) have converters that are not the greatest. Additionally you want to record as close to 0db as possible to achieve maximum bit-depth on your recording. As a signal falls away from 0db going into the converters your bit-rate decreases as well, so if you are only getting halfway up on your meters going into a 16bit converter you might only be capturing 8 bits.
As for noise reduction...I assume you are on a wintel box...Noise from sonic foundry is a good plugin for getting rid of tape hiss. Raygun from Arboretum is awesome as well! You could also pick up a Digi001 and it comes w/ DINR which is also very good.

Anyone know where to download a really killer Bass -rich MIDI bank in SoundFont format?
Drums and synths are easy to find - does no-one care what their bass sounds like??? A Roland JV101 or RD150 bank would be very sweet. Freeware preferred.

Open your CD burning software, make sure to select data format, paste the audio cd's contents into the new CD's window and burn it.
