I'm finally ready to step into the music technologie but i'm a bit confused. I want to buy a little home studio that will be able to record music, make music and sample music.... I was thinking about buying a big ass PC with a AUDIOPHILE sound card, the REASON program and CUBASE.... I was wondering if u had some other interesting combination that would be better and/or less expensive... I would also appreciate if u had good tips about computers... Thank's

reason + cubase is a wicked combination. depending on the quality you are aiming 4 you would probablly need a good quality FX package on top of that - something like DSP FX or Waves Bundle. Reason fx are pants but you rewire individual reason channels into cubase + use cubase FX/3rd party package here. There are plenty of ways of doing it. you could forget about reason + get VSTi synths+sampler instead. AMD or Pentium fine, 1Gig is more than plenty, 256RAM min. 17inch mon. 7,200rpm hard drive.

putting minidisc music on my hard drive

can someone please help me in explaining the process of transferring my minidisc recordings unto my hard drive?? i lost my MD manual and just got this cpu, i have no idea how to do it.

connect the stereo line out or headphone out of the minidisc to the line in on your soundcard. You need some kind of software to record into preferrably with metering so you can tell when you have an input signal. Hit record in your software and play on the minidisc. That's all I can tell you with out knowing what specific hardware you have. Also make sure you select line in on your soundcards mixer.

Karaoke

Ijust downloaded it the other day and it looks promising . They give you a 30 day trial.It seems to do all you need - Remove vocals,Add text,Syncronize text,Make CDG files,And Burn CDG Disks I haavent finisshed learning how the program works yet but what I have seen looks realy good

The simple answer is there isn't any. It's impossible to remove vocals, or any
instrument for that matter, from a stereo track.

There are 2 ways, either EQ the midrange like some cheaper products do or to select one channel and invert the phase. That will cancel the information that is the same on both channels which is usually the lead vocals and lead guitar or other solo instrument. Now if you know of editing software which you do that with pls let me know.

if the tracks r in mp3 get a freeware audio file converter from this sites software section. u convert the mp3 to .wav files. these are easily burned to a disc as CDA files which are playable by any cdplayer. if u just want to keep the songs to play on your pc cdrom u can burn them as mp3 files no problem.

You can type in "backing" or "karaoke" when you use Audiogalaxy or any other mP3 site.
It is also possible to make your own backing tracks with a editor, Maybe Peak or ProTools if you have a Mac, or SoundForge if you have a PC. If you find any suitable software pls let me know. AHogie@excite.com Also look at my reply to Karaoke above your posted question.

Seasound Driver Dilemma

I have a situation here and I'm wondering is anyone could perhaps you could shed some light on it.

I just got a new Mac G4 733 with OS 9.2.
I have the Seasound Solo w/expansion unit.
I discovered that to my disappointment, the Seasound does NOT work with OS 9.2
because of the driver.
I also discovered that Seasound just went out of business so I can't call them. for any updates.

Seasound uses a driver that loads an an extension and also has an ASIO driver.

* Does anyone know someone who is using the Seasound with OS 9.2?
* Does anyone who someone who could--or has--configured a driver to work with OS 9.2?

I am a pro working in the in the music biz in Los Angeles and am in the middle of a project.
So I am hoping to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

Thanks if anyone can help.

The is only one quick solution. Install OS 9.1 Any apple OS owner is allowed a free copy of any previous OS versions and you can pick one up (with a small burning charge I suspect) from any apple reseller.

I think it's a shame about Seasound although these things happen. They are obliged to support the product for 5 years in the uk (it's the law) but maybe it's different in the states. I have a Korg1212 audio card that doesn't have driver updates anymore. It's a pain because it's a good card but Korg don't consider it's worth supporting the customers that bought it past a couple of years after it's stopped selling. This is £&^%@ of course but what can you do in this greedy world.

I don't think OS9.1 will install over 9.2 or it's not recommended. Reinstall the system with 9.1, that's all I can think of..

Delay when trying to record a second track

I have a few different recording software products and when trying to use them I get a delay on the second track I try to record.
I have both Cakewalk guitar tracks and home studio,
Also I have downloaded a trial version of Protools that is real cool, except for the fact that I cannot sync the tracks up. If there is anyone who can help me figure this out I would be Grateful

the problem is 'latency' and it's a result of your soundcard drivers (or hardware). Try using different drivers 4 your card. ASIO are the best DirectX second best.

I can tell you that depending on what type of music software you have and what computer you are using. It is a must to isolate your soundcard period. In my case I had the same problem I had to completely single out my sound card and dump WinMe period. Make sure that no other programs are running turn off the net if you have DSL and you will be fine. You can use PCI Steering along side of your card anything else will stop you in your tracks. say you had 3 tracks on a cd,you wanted track 13 to be a hidden track.Ok,record a slent track(a second or so long)add the silent track to the cd 9 times,edit the time between tracks if you can(to a minimum)and on the 13 th track(3 original+9 blank=12tracks+new track=13)add your hidden track.POW!hidden track

They are not really songs it's just like weird noises and words played backwards. Like on Smells Like Children a couple of minutes after the last song some weird noises start playing and then he says "Do you wanna play broken glass against the head game?"

Hello, I have an A3000 v2 with a hard disk inside but since I have connected it to my PC, my sampler didn’t recognize my hard disk anymore. It can see there is a hard disk, he can see its name, but it doesn’t see any of my programs and samples.
I don’t believe it is blank because it takes a certain time to erase 400 Mo and I didn’t notice it when it was connected to my PC.
Do you know if there is a solution to my problem so that I can sleep normally.
Or maybe if I can connect my hard disk to a computer even if it formatted for Yamaha
