I installed cubasis vst version 5 on my pc. Its not working coz of an error with the vstdll.dll .does anybody have an older version of the vstdll.dll??? Doyou know a different solution to the problem??? thanx !!!!!

i've just bought a synthesiser(korg 01w) and i want to connect it to my computer. My soundcard should support midi, but a midicable and the place to plug it in are totally different, is doesn't fit. Beside it's only one, and i don't know if it's 'in' or 'out'. Can anyone help me with this??

I really need help. I have a cd burner in my computer but i dont have any software to make the cd from music i download. I did but my computer crashed and i lost everything. I dl music and play it on winamp but i need something to make the cd from ...can u please help me!

Hopefully someone here can help me out. I have purchased the blindwrite program and keep getting the error message ASPI not working or incorrect, etc. How can I get this to work? Any ideas? Software co claims I need to update my ASPI layer, where the heck do I get that?? Help please.

This is a long post… take a deep breath, relax and please take 5 minutes to read it.

With the race to replace Napster, a lot of you are trying all kinds of so call freeware.

You are in fact installing all kinds of spywares that even if you did uninstalled the so called freeware, their spyware counterpart will most of the time stay on your PC an can continue to report to their home servers for ever as some of their ULA permits them.

Some are real freeware like Gnutella or Limewire but others like BearShare and KaZaA are not. They are adware. They are not freeware.

What does that mean: Simple.

Usually, we buy software like games and stuff... we pay for them... $29... $59... fairly cheap.

Other time we download them from the web. Real free software is fantastic...you can't beat the price.

But sometimes, we end up downloading what is called an adware. Most of the time an adware is some normal software that usually has a window where ad banners are flashed at the user. Most people could not care less about those ads and just use the software like there is no tomorrow. The problem is… there really is no tomorrow as those people's privacy on the Internet as ceased to exist. Your privacy, is a really expensive price to pay for the use of a software that we can all live with out. I mean none of us need these file sharing programs for work or for school. But most of you are willingly giving their privacy away for what… a song? ;-))) If you want to use one, find a clean one… for your sake.

How come it is so bad? Because the banner systems do not come from the software developers. If it does (proprietary), well at least the banners do come from some advertiser's servers. Why is that bad? Again… simple

When you have the bad luck of clicking on one of those ads, you are telling the ad people that you really like… mountain bikes or whatever ad you got exposed to. Then… most of the ads you will see will be sport related. To make sure that most people are going to click on banners from time to time, they have you fill out a little survey or questionnaire when you did install that software in the beginning. It's called targeted marketing.

So, that you fill or don't fill the survey, that you click or don't click on a banner, chances are that one of these days, you will be seduced by one of these banners and it will report your click to their home servers.

Ok… so it does report information to somewhere.

Now WHAT information and to WHO?

For the what, generally, WebHancer apart most spyware only report on what banner, you click on so they can make and hold a profile of you likings in a database.

For the to Who, well it can be Radiate, Cydoor, Web3000, OnFlow, New.net and SaveNow. ... Who?

Radiate :
Basic banner content servers that does take care in logging to its database all your tastes, activities and what ever else you can think of. (I'm exaggerating… maybe you'll start to get my drift!)

Cydoor :
Roughly same as Radiate but on installation, if you decide not to install because of it, it will quit the installation of the software but not before install itself.

Web3000 :
Same here… but comes with a little present: You can get random pop-up ads on my desktop once in a while because it secretly installs and hide "MSBB.EXE" in your registry to start every time with Windows. The ads only appear when any kind of web application is running making it easy to think that they are coming from some web site.

OnFlow :
Just an advertising business selling ads for viewing on the net that will also sends you spam mail for "updates to our Authoring System and/or the availability of additional services". Will send you the banners you will see in your player's browser to "enjoy rich multimedia displays through your browser". Information will be sold and will be published in online surveys from time to time.

New.net :
That one was new for me. When I went there and browsed around, I clicked for some more information, something tried to install itself on my PC and wanted me to grant it a bunch of JAVA security modification so it could continue with it's business !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF! NO WAY... you picked on the wrong bad ass to mess with... slightly annoyed, I strolled on over to their privacy policies.

"The general information that we gather about you may be aggregated with general information of all users to help us better understand how our site is used. In addition, we aggregate the general information and the personal information. We compile and analyze this aggregated information so that we can provide more meaningful information to corporate partners and more relevant content and advertisements to you."
- I think that in the dictionary, that is roughly the definition of 'profiling'.

"The Product may automatically communicate with New.net's, or third party's, servers on the Internet to check for and install updates to the Product"
- Back Channel use.

And I could go on and on but I don't want to bore anybody to death. It's just that they have 6 pages of this!

"New.net may collect non-personally identifiable technical or distribution information that may include, without limitation, information regarding your Internet service provider, the IP address or other source from which the Product was downloaded or installed, and certain operating metrics such as which Product number belongs to your Product."
- Can you spell 'Globally Unique Identifier'? Privacy... what privacy, you just gave it all away!

SaveNow :
Sends u spam mail. They say to alert you for various offers or information. Collects user information such as gender, age and zip code to compile trend information and usage patterns. Collected info will be sold to third parties.

WebHancer:
In this case, you're busted! WebHancer reports and sell Internet credit card transaction information. They don't get your card numbers, who cares, they have your email address from the installation and they know you're a buyer… it's time to spell S P A M people.

What does that mean: It means that when your surfing the web and get plastered by ads, it's like watching TV, they blast it at you but they don't know if your really listening.

When you play a game on TV with my console, no one knows. When someone use a spyware infested software and clicks on a banner, the ad supplier knows who just asked for more content. They can then profile you and send you a bunch of more seductive ads specially angled at your whims to make you shell out your wallet more easily. That my friend is called spying on people. It's subliminal persuasion (S.Gibson) and it is illegal in most countries and most other countries are now battling to pass special laws.

When a TV corporation want data, they do surveys and people know that they are being questioned. With spywares, you do not know that you are being spied on. Why should KaZaA have that kind of data? Did anyone of you ever picked up the phone and answered their questions?

Ok, I know that digital TV broadcasters can profile some of your viewing habits based on the movies you order but they can't know if your watching the beer commercial or went out to get a pop. Digital TV will be a problem when it becomes fully duplex… that is when the box on your TV will be able to transmit back, uplink, what you are presently zapping on.

To conclude, I'll re-use what I just said: When you personally watch a TV program a you get plastered by advertising spots, they do not know if you are watching the spots or your gone to the fridge to get more of your favourite beverages. But on the net, if you have the bad luck of clicking on a banner ad… your cooked… they know your there and that you like specific stuff.
