You need to use a program called a 'ripper'. It 'rips' the audio from a CD and saves it to a file. You should be able to find a number of different programs that you can download by doing a search here on the SharewareMusicMachine site.

Here they have something called "Xitel's MD-Port DG2" It runs from your USB port to this little box, and out the other side as an optical signal. With your optical cable, you should be able to hook the MD player to the MD-Port, and then your in business.

i think mpu-401 is an audio out not midi. midi internal fmsynth appears to be your cards midi sound chip/out. u should use this for low latency recording + playback of backing trax when recording. for midi song playback only, u may get better sounds from the software (emulated) wavet synth/soundcard.

Ok, this is how u strip acapellas, but does not always work... It works with about 85% of songs.

First thing your gonna need the Instrumental of the track. THese are usually easier to find then acapellas. A good source is #instrumentals on EFnet (IRC) BTW you will also need the original song (of course)

anyways.... lets begin.

1. I have only done this with Sound Forge and Cool Edit Pro 2.0. You need to first open the instrumental and the original song. (These instructions are the same for both programs untill step 5. Step 5 and on are insrtuctions for Sound Forge.)

2. Zoom in all the way on both files so that you can see the exact same wave pattern in both.

3. Now copy the instrumental at a distinct point in the wave pattern all the way to the end.

4. Find that exact same point in original song (this has to be exact! you find out why later)

5. When you have set the marker to the exact point on the orginal song Highlight from that point all the way to then end of the song.

6. Click 'Edit' goto 'Paste Special' and Click 'Mix'

7. Now the volume setting should be fine, what you want to do here is on the "Source: Clipboard" channel check the box that says "invert data" Now simply click 'OK'

8. Play the sound file. Now if you can still hear the instrumental in the background you didn't line them up properly. I have tried for 45 minutes on some songs before I get it right, so don't give up.

*NOTE: you will not be able to completely elimate the instrumental but most acapellas you can still hear it faintly in the background... but it is pretty much not noticed, that is how it should sound when you get it right.

Like I said some songs this method won't work for. Some times you just can't make it work. Anyways I hope this info helps...

As long as you aren't talking about getting a WAV and say breaking it up into tracks like drum track, bass track & vocal track, you can just use <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/AUDIO_EDITORS/">a standard audio editor</a>. <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Cool_Edit_2k/">Cool Edit 2000</a> is good.
