MP3 file resampling - how can I do it?
I have some MP3 files sampled at 32k bit, 22050Hz (mono). I want to record these as CDDA (Compact Disc Digital Audio) files to allow me to play them on my home CD system. However, for burning to CDDA, my HP CD Writer software requires that digital audio files be sampled at 64k bit, with 44100Hz (stereo). Is there any way of getting round this problem, such as (for example) resampling the data at a higher rate (and changing to stereo format)? Or someone might suggest another way around this.
Re: MP3 file resampling - how can I do it?
Convert mp3s to wavs, use an editor to make them stereo, then burn them on CDs.
By the way cda format is 1422kb/sec, 16bit, 44.1kHz...
RM to WAV format
Hi to all, I would like to convert a song that I have in .RM format into either a .WAV format or other, as MP3, in order to put it into Cakewalk! Does any one know of a program that might be able to do that? Thanks in advance for any and all responses! Bonnnie

There is a software called Streambox Ripper, but you need the earlier version before they had to take out that feature from the lawsuit they lost.

I posted this just now as a reply a few messages down but thought I would through it at the forum regulars for sensible suggestions to the problem of constantly repeated questions. See what you think...
QUOTE
We need to come up with a way for people to have access to answers for questions that are 'constantly' repeated on this forum. I am sure you and I have sat there trying to come up with an idea, like a 'link' that answers popular questions from this board that people 'can't' miss before posting, but I can't think of a decent way.
The only thing I can come up with is to have a warning in a large font to "not post" until they have checked the FAQ page otherwise their messages will be removed. I doubt there will be a long list that will confuse people. The LP to CDR, Vocal removal is a good start and I am happy to donate to the permanent answers (although I know you can easily to it yourself). Let me know if you think this is a good idea, or an idea at all.
I generally ignore them these days although I feel guilty for not answering some of them. The irony of all this is, I rarely see those people coming back for the answer so they are redundant, in effect. It makes me wonder if they are actually doing anything wrong as to expect the forum visiting world to scan a load of message headers for their answers is a lesson that people 'aren't' going to learn quickly. Another solution is required...
Ideas??
Steve...R
Andy, I don't know if this is possible but, is there a way to remove the 'post' command and leave just the 'Post a Message!' window BUT have something like, CHECK THE FAQ FIRST OR YOUR MESSAGE MAYBE DELETED, in the actually 'Your Name' window so people would HAVE to read it before deleting the above to insert their name. I know this board is an application in essence and I don't know if you can edit it that way... Just a thought..
Re: AndyP, Kozida, Geoff, Lisa, Coolguy etc etc...
You asked for it and now you've got it - a list of
frequently asked questions with links to answers
right beside the message posting form.
If you have any suggestions on new additions to the
list or other changes please let us know.
Cheers,
Jason.
Re: AndyP, Kozida, Geoff, Lisa, Coolguy etc etc...
Maby the goto tutorial post I added will help...
It will be posted EVERY TIME I check the site...
Re: AndyP, Kozida, Geoff, Lisa, Coolguy etc etc...
No more goto tutorial posts, will be posted.
If anyone thinks it helped, be my guest.
Lisa, I'm sorry if I've offended you in any way, I'll keep my opinions for myself in the future...

Andy,
The FAQ is already in place I know, although it's obviously in one of those places that people have the 'option' to read it rather than feel obliged, it's there but kindof buried to a new user.
I don't wish to penalise anyone for asking a question without thinking, as it is human nature to do that. That's why I thought that its' important that the FAQ has the quickest form of answer to the questions that a lot of them are asking, In 'Moving' the FAQ to a more convenient place where people feel obliged to read it seems to be a goal scored for them and us.
It's tricky as we all think that people should read down the messages first OR read the FAQ which is preferable for them. The reality is what we are dealing with and sadly it's obviously a situation where people need to be railroaded somewhat.
I know this isn't my board and therefore these are food for thought for you. This board does have more than it's share of the under elementary music users that appear to need this sort of treatment, again, for their own good and for ours.
Let me know if there is anything I can do...
Kind regards

Hmmmm, I didn't check that. I don't even know where it is myself then. I suppose that's what we are getting to then. A Unmissable link might just do the trick. I suppose all we need is a break from the monotony of those sorts of posts and the opportunity for people to get the answers they want quickly without bothering us. It's not an easy one for the website boys though, but there surely is something better than this...

Our main man Jason said not long ago they were going to have a new section of frequently asked questions. I doubt if that will help. People just want to type in a question and get a quick reply, a lot of them will never even return to the forum. There IS a great need for education in pc recording and this forum IS helping to fill that need. So answer what you want to and to hell with the rest. I've learned a lot from this forum and found links to more than I could imagine. Thank you my friends, you're the best. That concludes this mornings portion of the show-check ya later

I couldn't agree more. Everyone making so much of an issue about how to prevent people from asking the same questions over and over. The solution isn't that difficult. Just leave the FAQ in place for those who either know enough to look there first or who get tired of not having there questions answered when they realize that it's already been asked a hundred times. They'll eventually figure out that looking there and reading some of the other messages first might be a good idea or they won't. If they don't then the answer obviously wasn't that important to them. But throwing a temper tantrum because people are posting the same questions is pointless. Just answer the questions you would like to answer and skip over the rest. There are enough people visiting this forum the chances are good that if you don't answer a question someone else will. Come on people! It's a forum with perhaps dozens of visitors a day. Some redundancy is to be expected. The forum is useful and that's all that really matters. It seems like there's too much effort being expended on trying to solve a problem that nobody really cares about and that isn't that much of a problem anyway. Let's put more effort into helping those who need it.
Administrator's Actions Are Abjured
This forum is moderated lightly, (warez posts are the only ones that seem to dissappear -besides the 2 months old expired posts), though Jason Horton appears at times to help or mildly criticize posts. It's up to him (and his co-workers)
to make a section with the most popular questions (5-10) on the right side of the forum (to prevent newcomers from reposting the same subject). The administrator would only have to work on a weekly basis to post new results and the forum would be fast & efficient.
I think you all understand the simple fact that newcomers in this forum would like to see this,
TOP-TEN QUESTIONS
Non-destructing vocal removal
Convert HJd to gav (or Rjc)
CD-Burning terror
(etc)
and be able to submit their own post in the apropriate sub forum.
This forum is walking to its death.
Administrators should think again if a forum is what they wanted in this site. It works for pop-ups, but a forum full of them with no interesting topics easily becomes a deserted forum.
(that means no pop-ups -dig?)
Sisyphean swink
I hardly agree that this forum is marching to its death. An FAQ section would be handy, but I can tell you right now that people would STILL come here and ask the usual questions.

Re: Sisyphean swink
"This forum is walking to its death", simply means that this forum is becoming more of a money machine, than a discussion board (kozida dictionary p327).
It would require more work from the administrators to make it more accesible (it's already useful), and less annoying...
Re: Sisyphean swink
You know what it sounds like? It sounds like you have a classic case of discussion group ego. Notice how few people are actually bothered with the issues that seem to sting you so :) You're creating just as much noise on the group as those people who ask lazy questions.
From what I've noticed around here, money is needed to run the web site. There should be no shame in that, should there?

What Soundcard?
I am looking for a soundcard to run Cubase on my PC. My bank account is not limitless so cheap cheap cheap is what I'm looking for. I have been considering Soundblaster live 1024, but I'm not really sure. Can anybody help me . . please!
Re: What Soundcard?
The M Audio Audiophile card offers much superior converters to consumer cards at a very reasonable price. You could also step up into one of their Delta cards among other possiblities. Email me and we can figure out what would be best for you!

Re: What Soundcard?
if the SB 1024 is about your price limit go 4 it it is a very widely used card by musicians and will suit 95% of needs except perhaps ultra high quality live recording - we talking better than cd quality. but then you'd need top quality mic, speakers, cables, live instruments etc to get the benifit? if u no have these no point in an expensive card.

need software that will interpret recorded voice...?? kinda...
ok... so here is what i need. i need software that will allow me to read in a sentace into a mic.. or import a sound file of me reading a sentance, after which the software will give the following info (or make it really easy to interpret from a graph or something?: Total length of the sentance(not hard) Number of words in the sentance ( getting harder?) and the amount of time of and between each word ( really hard ?) If possible this info would be exported in a flat file ( ie. ideal output. for a sentance would be amount of time before the first word was spoken then the amount of time that the first word took, then the amount of time between the first and second word and then the amount of time the second word took... and so on and so on...so a four word sentace would yeild me 8 times...
PLEASE any help of sofware that gets me closer would help....
thanks,
aly.

I have been looking for a CD writer software, but all I find is just demos. Can you guys help me to find a CD writer software. The software has to have a data burning. I already got one for MP3's.
Thank you. I would really appreciate this.
Re: help
I'm afraid I don't know of any such software, as I don't have a cd-writer myself.
saxophone and tecnology
can anyone help me to find out a good way to process and work on the sound of my horn throw computer?
i don't have any ideas about this tecnology
thanks

Re: saxophone and tecnology
There are several audio cards available that have phantom powered mic pre's on them that will allow you to get the audio into your computer. Some even come bundled with software. One of these card along with a decent mic will do what you want for well under $1000.
Email me if you would like more info.

Recording brass...
You could just record it into a decent microphone that is connected through a mixing desk (proper mic input) to the computers audio input which would allow you to play over music that you have made or any music for that matter.
I believe you can also buy devices that will interpret the notes that you are playing and convert them to midi information although this can be inaccurate. I saw a device about 14 years ago at a music show that seemed to do this pretty well although I have lost what's going on with this type of technology.
I do know that there are Audio to Midi convertors (logic audio has one) although they have to be taken with a pinch of salt. They work okay with quite basic monophonic instruments though so it might be worth a bash.
Get a decent mic and a mic mixer and you should be off....

Re: Recording brass...
Audio to midi is still a funky business, fast or complicated parts tend to be misunderstood...
Speed typing limit is now set to 50...

MP3 Editor
Hi all,
I am searching for a software which is able to edit MP3-Files, without converting to WAV. The programm just need simple options like "fade-in/fade-out" and it must be able to control the volume. It should be like the WAVE-Editor from Windows or the WAVE-Studio from Creative. Did anybody know such a software?

There are several programs that will edit MP3s directly.
mp3DirectCut freeware:

is one of the few that's freeware which still has most of the features you're looking for.

I went to the MP3 section of the site. There are a number of editors there. You can also get a great list of editors at MP3Machine.com.

WANT PROGRAM TO REMOVE VOCALS
I'M LOOKING FOR A PROGRAM TO REMOVE THE VOCALS SONGS (CD'S, WAVE FILES...) TO MAKE INSTRUMENTS OF THE SONGS
Re: WANT PROGRAM TO REMOVE VOCALS
: I'M LOOKING FOR A PROGRAM TO REMOVE THE VOCALS SONGS (CD'S, WAVE FILES...) TO MAKE INSTRUMENTS OF THE SONGS
There are Karaoke versions of many popular songs available commercially. There's a name for that type of file which escapes me at the moment. I think that's what everybody is looking for because it's really hard or impossible to remove just the vocal from a stereo mix. Here's an alternative. If you have a program that plays midi files, you can search for the song you want as a midi file. This contains no vocals so might work for what you want. So do some research and figure it out, if you've got a computer and you're online, to quote that guy from the Waterboy " You can do it"
NOT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!
There isn't one. If you look through earlier postings you'll
find more detailed answers to this often asked quaestion.
