Desperate
I am a newbie to this computer shtuff. I recently finished recording a cd of my own songs. I have no clue how to start the process of getting them online for people to hear. I really need to be taken by the hand from inserting my cd to whatever comes next. I am very much computer illiterate so somebody HELP!!

Hallo ... 1st thing to do is to convert the wav files to MP3 - compresses the file 10 times smaller for the internet ... find software somewhere on this site for sure ... if you want the music on your own site, then you have to find a web space provider with a fastish server ... or you can upload your music to mp3.com & peoplesound.com and others ... hope this helps ..

Is there a Program that will adjust the sound level or Gain of MP 3's? When you download several different songs to Burn on a CD'r, the volume is different according to the songs downloaded. Is there a program to correct the sound level? Thanks. Phil

You will find CD burning software on this site that support 'normalizing'. This adjusts the volume of all songs burned to the same level.

problem with soundfont software.someone in the same case?

i bought 516 Mo RAM just to fill it with soundfonts.
i can do it till 255 Mo (and now that's all right) but each time i restart my computer the soundfonts loaded diseappear because the Soundfont software restart at ...12 Mo!!!!
if anyone know the answer to that problem please help me
(maybe my Soundfont software is too old to support 516 Mo.If that's the case is there an upgrade,and where?)

MP3 to Wav CD playback zip sounds
Hello,
Here is my problem...
When I burn a CD in MP3 playback is perfect.
When I burn a CD after converting to WAV I the actual
song playback is good, however, I get occassional
glitches in the soundtrack that can be best described
as 'electrical spark'or 'quick zip-like' sounds.
I assume this has something to do with the actual cd burn
process.
Any suggestions.

If your CD-R is SCSI get Adaptec ASPI Drivers. Get latest CD-R drivers & update your CD-burner app. Maby your mp3 to wav app is gone bananas, uninstall, restart, reinstall & if still fails get a better one.

Well ok, now this is frustrating, i recieved fruity loops 3 as a gift and susequently am having REAL trouble getting the manual for it, the online manual is unreadable as all i see is a load of errr crap and the key code dont work to alow me to get the manual from the websit either, so please is there anyone out there with the complet fruityloops 3 manual or know where i can get it?

try using clone cd availiable from cdrsoft.net it works evry time 4 me but make sure your writer supports cd+g reading and writing plextors have no problems

: Paul, you could try clone cd or... I've made about 300 perfect back-ups with MTU. They have a trial version but they do not support all burners, because you do have to have a burner that can read the subchannel data. Go to their site at mtu.com and find their list of approved burners to see if yours is on there. If it is, I would highly recommend their program. My burner is a Plextor 12x, I burn the cdg's on auto-select speed, and it burns at 12x beautifully! Most will tell you not to burn cdg's over 4x. I hope this is helpful Paul, I had to learn everything the hard way, on my own. This should cut back on headaches.

Linking a vs-880 with digital performer on an imac G3
Hi, I have a lot of questions. I have an ibook 500
mhz G3 processor. If I install digital performer 2.7,
will I have to get more memory? I have 64 megabytes I
think. Also can I link my vs-880 (v-expanded) to dig-
ital performer without having to purchase an audio int-
erface? Can I use the imputs on my vs-880 and use dig-
ital performer as a slave? I want to transfer tracks
from the vs-880 to the imac. I have a midi-man inter-
face. Is this good enough? Tell me what I need to do
get to get going. Also does the number of tracks you're
able to get depend on the memory space of the hardrive?
Based on my computer's speed and memory, how many
tracks can I get using digital performer. Please I
need help. I'm trying to upgrade to recording software
and I don't know where to begin.

Memory is quite a consideration when using Audio sequencers on any computer. I had 192 in my G4 for a couple of months and then had to go to 256 as Logic audio sometimes required more. I have 512 now as memory got so cheap, I couldn't resist....;0) Running audio on less than 128 is going to be a stuggle. Get yourself as much as you can afford now whilst the prices are cheap. 192 is good 256 better...

I presume you mean iBook?? I am unsure whether the new iBook has an audio input as such. I think apples idea is that buy a iMic if you need one or a more serious USB or firewire input output device. There are a few available that aren't too expensive although you may have a mic/line input you could use, don't expect a whole load of quality though, but it will be loosly usable.

This is enough. The basic procedure is to use MTC (midi time code) to sync the two devices together. If it were me, I would use the computer as the MTC master... This means you have to figure out where the midi interface page is in D-performer. You have to ensure that D-performer is transmitting MTC through the relevant midiman interface's midi output. Connect this to the midi input on the VS. Make sure that D-performer is transmitting MTC with a frame rate (FPS) of 30. (not 29.9..!) If you have this setup properly, when you press play on D-performer, you should be outputting MTC to the VS which will result in the VS's midi/disk light flashing. If you have got this far then all you need to do is go into the VS mains menu and locate SYNC/TEMPO. In this menu, there is SYNC with the option of INT or EXT (internal/external).... Select EXT and then quit the menu. Press play on the VS and the light should start flashing but it wont play. The reason for this is because it's waiting for a the MTC signal from the MTC master (the computer). Loading a song and pressing play on D-performer should start the VS rolling.
If you have achieved this then you can transport audio 'to and from' the computer and the VS whilst staying in perfect time. The mechanics of setting MTC transmission from D-performer is something you can figure out for yourself. I could take you through every step with Logic audio but not D-performer, sorry...

Not really although when the disk is full, that's that. The amount of tracks streamable off any HD on any computer buss is to do with the speed of the system buss AND the speed of the HD. The iBool is no slouch though but you will have to find out for yourself. When I first got my G4/400, I ripped some music from a CD and then pasted into as many tracks in Logic Audio as I could to see how many tracks the system could play back. Effects will take system resources and reduce the amount of audio the machine can deal with... Experiment...

Lots of memory and see how you go. The iBook has a very fast buss called Firewire so if you get stuck, you could invest in a fast (make sure it's a fast mechanism) External Firewire HD.
Get back to us if you have a problem with the above. It took me some time to figure this out myself but I have it working flawlessly these days. The VS880's sync is excellent...

If the keyboard is recorded as midi, then it will be saved as midi I am afraid, so you nust somehow convert your midi file to wav file first..You can record that midi keyboard part seperately as a wav file using a wave recorder (such as "goldwave", which you can download for free from goldwave.com) and then open it again as a wave file in cakewalk, from the "insert" menu, by choosing "wave file" option)
Another option would be to directly record your keyboard as wave, but of course you can no longer edit the notes in it, unlike a midi file. For this, dont use the midi connection port..instead, go direct from your keyboard (or the keyboard's speaker out jacks, whatever..) to the "line in" entry of your soundcard, using a normal cable..(line out port is blue colored on my soundcard)After that, select "line in" from the "record control" options window..
(In case you dont know to do that: 1)Double left click on your speaker icon from your system tray which is on the bottom of your screen on the right hand side.
2)Select "properties" from the "options" menu.
3)Select "recording" and then make sure the "line in " box is checked..Click OK and then you will have the "record control" window open)
4)Tick the "line in" select box from the record control window.
Now, you should make the following adjustments in cakewalk:Right click on the particular track(the one you want to record your keyboard) and go to "track properties"..In the track properties window, make the following adjustments:
Port:Wave out
Source:Wave in(right or left, or any of them if you are recording stereo, experiment)Click OK.
That should work.

instead of recycle?
logic does not support recycle files.are there any other programs that work instead of recycle that are compatible with Logic??
Just export component parts
When exporting from recycle, export all components as wavs and also export the MIDI file.
Then load the samples into a vst drum machine (such as RM2, Rupsta, LM4, loopazoid) and trigger the samples with the MIDI file. This gives you the same control you would have over a REX file.

I think you can export ReCycle files as a wave file. Logic does support stereo waves and are easy to import...

Please help: MIDI device
Hi, there,
I installed the software, "Cakewalk Overture 2 Trial Version," but whenever I run the program, it informs
me that "No MIDI outputs, you have not selected any
MIDI outputs ..." and asked me to choose one. But after
I pushed the button "choose MIDI device now", it lists
nothing.
But I know from the control panel/sound ... that I
have a Audio device and MIDI feature has been enabled
on it. And actually I can play .mid files.
I want to know that does the program need a MIDI hardware? or I need to do something else?

Briefly...
The likelyhood is the programs preferences are set to locate an external midi device. Continue to get advice from the rest of the forum as I don't know windows that well. I know Logic audio does this on my friends iMac as he has no midi device although I showed him how to turn off the request by travelling to the Midi communications menu and turning off all interfacing.
This doesn't mean that internal soundcards with Midi can't be selected, I just don't know how to do it in windows

Yes, try "Cool Edit 2000" or "Pro" and highlight (select) your voice wave file then go to "Transform" on the upper menu bar then choose "Delay Effects" then "Echo" then "Old Time Radio" or another desired effect.

I think .sng is the extension the atari ST used to use for steinberg products and I think they still use the same file extension. If this is the case, then you need to load the .sng into the sequencer originally used and then 'export' it as a midi file.

PROBLEMS TO SYNC THE ROLAND VS840
Hi there !!
Can anybody help me how to synchronize the Roland VS840 with my PC running cakewalk 7.0?
I´m trying to do it by MTC, but I can´t do it !!!

First off...
The general advice is to consider your computer as the "Master MTC" device and the VS840 the "Slave"... I successfully sync my VS880 with my Mac G4 running logic audio, Midisport 2 x 2 USB interface.
Firstly, you have to make sure you are transmitting MTC from cakewalk and ensure that the information is addressing your Midi device. (I don't know cakewalk well and don't recall the Midi communications window so you'll have to find it yourself ;0). If the VS840 is the same as my VS880 then it defaults to running MTC at 30fps so make sure that cakewalk is transmitting at 30fps as it might run at 25fps and the sync will wow and flutter the VS. If you are sending midi information to a VS880, the midi light flashes. If you are ONLY transmitting MTC (no other midi information) and the midi light is flashing on the VS, then you can be sure that the information is being received.
When you have reached this stage, you need to locate the SYNC/TEMPO menu on the VS. This gives the option to have the VS set to MTC "EXT or INT" (external and internal obviously). Select EXT and then check that the FPS is set to the same as the sequencer on your 'puter. By rights, if you press the play button now, it will flash instead of start playing the song on the VS. Pressing play on your sequencer should set it off playing....
If you get this far then remember this. The VS will start playing or recording ONLY if you have selected those buttons on the VS. Your sequencer wont start playing the VS on it's own. It will just send timing information and therefore you have to press play/record to get them flashing before the VS will do anything...
Get back to me if your stuck. It took me a few hours of hair pulling to get mine working but if you've managed it once, it will always work. The VS range is also well known for excellent MTC sync and is therefore flawless in it's timing.
