I'm looking for a software drum synth
looking for a shareware drum synth capable of generating pure sinewaves/sawtooth blah blah...would like to generate clicks..minimalistic beats etc...anyone know a decent one??
if you're VST capable...
there is nothing like linplug's RM F for a freeware VST drum sampler, or the RM 2 is $45US with even more features!
Ok, Iwas going to say drum synth and stomper too...
But I was just thinking about it and realised that you can get the same results with less work:
Just take existing beats and filter the crap out of them. Lowpass, then more lowpass, then more lowpass, then envelope, the distoriton, then lowpass,, etc
It'll be fun.

Where can i find a program that can comvert ordinary computer files (like .exe, .com, etcetera) to an audio stream? i want to use this to put computer data on to a tape or a dictaphone. This means that the program must also be capable of restoring the computer files from the audiostream it created... who can help me out?

Re: program that can convert ordinary computer files to audio
There's nothing on this site that does all that. But if you find something I'd love to know about it.

Re:
Since I have a previus model (SCSI Plextor 12x4x32) that works fine with nero (& the rest) I can only suggest to do the following:
Try getting the latest drives from plextor's site, do the same with nero (I think there is a list there of the CD-Rs that are supported).
Since your CD-R is EIDE no ASPI drivers are needed, but recheck your manual just in case.
Repost a topic with details about the symptoms (ie: My plextor isn't visible when I select Choose Recorder from Nero's menu)...

Raising Vocals
Does anyone know how to use the filters in Cool Edit Pro? I'm trying to raise the vocals on a track so that I can mainly hear the vocals. Many people said it's possible but I don't know exactly how to do it. Rob
Re: Raising Vocals
Simplist most effective way I know is to go to the Graphic Equalizer Filter (under "Transform" menu). In the presets box in the bottom left hand corner scroll down until you come to the "vocal presence boost" option and select it. You can either just go with that or observe the way it changes the frequencies in the graph above and play around yourself. I think most of the filters have similar presets. Also for getting the best results for your vocals I find it helpful to think about where they're panned in the mix (left/right/centre) with regards to other instruments. If you've not spread the sounds out between left and right enough you'll swamp the vocals.
All the best

Do you have any ideas with the bandpass filter/lowpass/highpass filter. I got some feedback from people regarding those filters, any ideas? Rob
Re: Raising Vocals
Ok. So you're not tring to RAISE the vocals; you're trying to ISOLATE the vocals.
Ok, well I just use a bandpass filter centred around about 1500Hz and that works good BUT ONLY IF:
1. You manually edit out the music only parts between the vocal sections.
2. You hide the cuts using delays (pure echoes) and reverbs
3. You provide really loud background instruments to the new mix. It won't sound good if you try to just leave the vocals by themselves.

For some reason still, I can't seem to seperate the vocals from the music. I raise the vocals but the music is still there. Rob

Re: audio casette to c.d conversion
There isn't a program specifically designed to do this (at least not that I know of). What you need is a program like Cool Edit, which will allow you to record sounds. Connect your cassette deck to the audio in of your sound card and record each track individually, saving each in WAV format. Once you have enough, use something like Nero or Adaptec Easy CD Creator to transfer the WAV files to CD.

how to take music off internet and record on to cd
I am a Mac user, I have Adeptec Toast, it won't let me record CDs from recorded Audio cds, it comes up with an error each time. Can I copy music off the net and record it on to cds? What software do I need. Will the quality be as good as the original? Or even better, is there a cd burner that I can buy that will allow me to record onto blank cd?
Thanks

Re: how to take music off internet and record on to cd
Hi I wanted to know if I can get free software from the internet to do free recording. where can I get the free software and where are the sites I can record from?
Iam a pc user.
It could be the burner...
Hi,
Toast is an all round great program for burning. I generally covert MP3's to uncompressed .wav/.aif on my mac although something like iTunes (i'm sure toast does it too...) will burn an audio CD straight from an MP3. Toast comes with "Toast Audio Extractor" which rips the audio files from an audio CD in the drive. Double click on the resulting file and Toast will automatically boot and configure itself to burn the audio files to a cd, simple...
If you do have some files that are on your HD (from the internet, or where ever) you can boot toast and then drag the files onto the toast window and they will be ready to burn (although make sure that the program knows it's burning audio rather than data..;0). iTunes is a great little application from Apple and works flawlessly and best of all, it burns audio CD's from Mp3 to wave files. It's a free program from apple.. make good use of it..!
If you are doing all these things but the CD burner is failing, then it could be either the CD burner itself OR the CD's that you are using. It's only more recently that companies have managed to make CD burners that actually burn CD's reliably. I have a Yamaha 4416 that burns frisbee's that don't fly too well. I am gagging for a new Firewire burner but the pennies aren't available at the moment. If you get an error whilst burning, tell us what it is and we can try and assist.

Re: It could be the burner...
Hi,
I am trying to burn a CD of songs from iTunes. I've made the list of songs. I put in the CD when it asks to, it pulls down all the songs, says it is initializing the disk, then it says it is burning the 1st song and it then says it is ending the burning process. An error message comes up saying an unknown error occured type -7932. Do you know what this means? I tried other CD's and have the same problem. This is the 1st time I've tried to burn an audio file since I got the computer. I'd appreciate any help you could give me. I'm going nuts!

Re: how to take music off internet and record on to cd
I don't know why Adaptec won't do the job. But you can copy music off the net and then burn it to CD. Generally, the quality won't be as good as the original as MP3/RA/WMA formats compress the source. You'll find Mac burning software here.

breaking 1 long track into multiple tracks (dj mix cd with track
Hey all,
From 1 long track is there any software that allows you to insert a track mark throughout a cd without having to cut and paste each song into a new file? Something similar to track marks on minidiscs.
thanks
Ollie
Re: breaking 1 long track into multiple tracks (dj mix cd with t
Are you saying you want to rip a mixed CD or burn a mix CD? If ripping, the CD will already be divided into tracks even though you do not hear individual tracks, such is the nature of a mix CD. When ripped it should convert each CDA track to individual WAV/MP3 files. IF you have a WAV file you have mixed and want to put on CD as separate tracks but still as a mix CD with no silence gaps: find CD Wave Editor program on this site, it will divide a large WAV into tracks, then burn to CD in DAO (disk-at-once) mode.
