: What's The News In The Music World?
I'm glad you asked that question. There is a continuing revolution in the way music is recorded.PC recording is growing everyday. There is a huge legal battle going on concerning copyright issues, and commercial radio still SUX! Back to you Courtney.

I THINK I DO....
If you have downloaded RealOne Player you can do
it from there (for free). Open up RealOne Media Browser. Put in a cd. The tracks will line up. At the bottom (above my library)click on preferences. Highlight "MP3 Audio" and then click "OK" at the bottom. Whenever you download from a CD it will automatically go into MP3 format. If you already have your songs on your hard drive I'm not sure how to change them yet. I'm working on that one myself. Good Luck.
Re: RMJ to MP3
stream box ripper will do it
Re: RMJ to MP3

No it wont, only converts the older Real Audio NOT RMJ!!!
Re: RMJ to MP3
Use Media Jukebox 8 - that will do it! :)

i know
it's called roll with me by Del Amitri..i didnt know either but i looked it up and found it...
Re: what song and singer is this??
it seems like you already have the right song and singer for this song so i just wanna say thank you cuz this has been my favorite song since i was like 7-years-old and i was never able to figure out the name and artist of the song. Thanks
Re: what song and singer is this??
Roll To Me
Del Amitri
Look around your world pretty baby
Is it everything you hoped it'd be
The wrong guy, the wrong situation
The right time to roll to me
Look into your heart pretty baby,
Is it aching with some nameless need.
Is there something wrong and you can't put your finger on it
If you type the first line of the lyrics into Yahoo, you
could have found this easily!

softsynth
Soft synth downloads interest me. I have worked at writing songs with an excellent musician who went on to join an american jazz band that won a grammy. I've been told that he went to LA, and I went to AA. However, in the last ten years I've learned to write well enough to have literary recognition for my verses.
What I want to do is use polymodality to write some musical comedy. The people I would be playing the music for don't need to hear great production values, their musical training gives them an imagination for that. I have a 486 SX running windows 3.1. Can you help?

Looking for a software synth with good orchestral sounds
I am looking for a software synth with good orchestral sounds. Does anyone know of anything?
Thanks

Generally, the Roland sound canvas series has OK sounding "real" instruments. The softsynth you would need then is "virtual sound canvas"

Don't bother with a synth, get a sampler soft or hardware if you want realistic orchestral sounds. native instruments do a good software sampler for about the same price as a soft synth. Trust me you will always be disappointed with a synth. I have a Roland JV1080 with the orchestral expansion card. I used to think it was realistic, but multi layered samples are the go.
General midi units are fine for school homework or doing cheesy jingles or commercials but sound really crap
lp to cd
is there a simple software to let me copy from lp to cd? i have data becker music cd recorder versio 2.0.
too much hassle with it.
Re: lp to cd
Well, you'll need an audio editor and CD Burning software at the very least. Two picks are <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Cool_Edit_2k/">Cool Edit 2000</a> and <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Nero_win32/">Nero</a>.
If you can't work it out, just ask more questions. Honestly, once you've gotten through one LP -> CD, you'll see how easy it really is.

Re: lp to cd
Fred
A further thought - you might find Dart Pro 98 or 32 is useful (I haven't used this program, though).

Re: lp to cd
Fred
Save your lp tracks as individual WAV files (e.g. using CoolEdit), then covert to CD Audio using your basic burning program (I use Nero).
This is a good reference page: http://homepages.jireh.co.uk/~abcomp/lp-cdr.htm

Re: lp to cd
It is fine to transfer your Lp's onto the Soundcard of the Computer, but what about the clean-up of the background sound crackle that is present on Lp's. How do you get rid of that. Is there some soft-ware you can use for this clean up operation.
please enlighten me on this subject.
Thanks

Slow Down Speed of CDs
I'd like to be able to find hardware which will allow me to slow the playing of tracks on a CD but without changing the pitch.
Is there such a machine?
Thanks!
Re: Slow Down Speed of CDs
There are a number of programs which do this. <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Slowgold/">SlowGold</a> is one. You'll find more in the <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/GUITAR/">Guitar Section</a>.

I don't know if there is a program which works directly with CD Audio files, but you could convert the track to a .WAV file and then slow it down using CoolEdit (use the Stretch option).
See my Software page for some other links which might be of use.

I'm an old Creator/Notator guy
For the past 10 years I have been using Notator 3.1 on an old Atari 1040 ST. I'm the pastor and a music director of a church so it meets my needs to sequence and print out some music. I now have the opporunity to do some studio work but need to be more state of the art. QUESTION -- Is there a new version of Notator which can allow me to use a PC (preferred) or a Mack to load music files into some of the more popular music programs being used inthe studios today??
Re: I'm an old Creator/Notator guy
(I too am an old Notator guy) C-Lab later became Emagic (check this website for the history http://www.tweakheadz.com/sequencers.html ) whose latest sequencer is called Logic Audio (available in 3 flavours - silver, gold & platinum)This software will allow you to edit your old notator files. Or, if you save your notator files as standard MIDI files you can open them on most sequencers (Cubase etc.). Have you heard of Sibelius? This is a program specifically for dealing with music in notation form - it will open MIDI files and it plays back your music as you're composing it (actually, it's very much like a big brother to notator!) Anyway all these programs are available for the PC and if you want to contact me personally - I know a way you can get hold of them for free, so you can evaluate what works for you before forking out.

I want to record Art Bell on CD
How do I record internet radio, like Art Bell to CD?
How do you convert ram files to wav files?
Thanks, in advance.
Re: I want to record Art Bell on CD
You can capture Internet radio as a WAV and then burn it to disc using <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/TotalRecorder/">. RAM to WAV - find the <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/wwwboard/messages/78015.html">answer here</a>.

samples
How do i get a clear sample from video tape into my soundcard withoout having to use my crap mic
Re: samples
: How do i get a clear sample from video tape into my soundcard withoout having to use my crap mic
Well, you'll need some way of converting the signal from the RCA outputs of your VCR to the line input on your soundcard.
You can either:
- find a cable that will directly convert the right and left RCA outputs into a plug that will fit into your sound card (I assume it is probably a stereo 1/8 inch input).
- find converters so you can use the cables you already have. (warning: converters cause signal loss.)
- find something to plug the VCR into that will be a go-between and convert the signal for the proper cord. I've used my stereo receiver before, plugging into the aux inputs and coming out from the headphone jack. A mixing board or 4 track will work also.
sample speeds
anyone know any software that can take a 130 bpm sample and change it
to e.g 140 bpm instead of messing around with values, applying them to the sample and testing
the speed.

Re: sample speeds
<a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/SonicFoundryAcid/">ACID</a> is good for this kind of thing if you've got a bunch of samples and want to sequence them at the same BPM. It's not sample conversion software however so don't expect it to do stuff like batch conversions. But it works for my purposes.

How to convert *.rm files to *.wav
Sorry if this is blindingly obvious, but can anyone tell me a way of converting Real player *.rm files to *.wav files. And just a way to burn the *.rm files straight to an audio CD.
Re: How to convert *.rm files to *.wav
The answer can be found <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/wwwboard/messages/78015.html">here</a>. I wouldn't burn RM to disc as you're pretty much stuck with a disc that can only ever be played in the cd-rom.
