Re: I need HELP with the page layout

I forgot to mention that I'm using Finale 2001.

: I need some help.

: I have created a choral arrangement of a hymn (I split it into 4 staves). Everything works great, playback is great. However, each page has the staves separated differently. To explain: On the 1st page there is a nice 1" or so gap between the 1st set of 4 staves and the 2nd set (2 to a page). On the 2nd page there is a huge 3" or 4" gap. On both the 3rd and 4th pages they are too close together.

: I have tried to move them closer together using various tools, but not without severly damaging the rest of the piece.

: Here is the file for downloading:

: (zipped with WinZip 8.0)

:
: Like I said, everything else is great. Just that visually, it looks sloppy.

:
: Anybody have a minute to take a look?

:
: Thanks,

: Dan

Recording Drums

Okay complete newbie crap - I wanna record a band (drums, guitars, vox) using my PC as a DAW - any recommendations as to programs - I am especially concerned about any limitations in recording the drums.......

Re: Recording Drums

thanks 4 the replies - believe me, I would very much prefer to multitrack but my 8 track has died and $1,600 for new heads is out of the question - I'm just looking for other options

Re: Recording Drums

Andy is right about what he said. n_trackis probably the best multi-tracker for your purposes. It's very flexible and is great value for $. As for recording drums, there are some good drum sites out there that will cover this for you. Just remember that you don't need a mic on every tom and cymbal to get a great recording. The performace of your stick swinger is far more important.

Re: Recording Drums

thanks for the replies - believe me, I would very much to prefer to stick to tried and tested multitrack recording, but the heads on my old Fostex 8 track are dead and buried and $1,600 for new heads is a real problem.......basically, I was exploring options and it doesn't look good

Re: Recording Drums

Your main limitation is how many microphone inputs you have. Most soundcards only have one or two at most, so you're going to be limited as to where you can place them. In my experience, the only way to get decent recordings is to use a multi-track recorder so that you can mike up four or more instruments, then balance them up later.

midi capture/playback

I'm using Musictime Deluxe and I would like to save the midi output with a CD-RW. Programs like Cool Edit can capture my midi output and then play it back so I can record it, but I don't want to pay $400.

Do any of the shareware programs do this?

Thanks.

Eric

Re: midi capture/playback

Wouldn't you be able to capture it if you registered the software? That would be your easiest option, plus you'd get tech support.

is the a cd burner that burns wma files?

hi i was wondering if there is a free cd burner that can burn wma files straight onto cd? Please email me if u no! thanx Helen

Re: is the a cd burner that burns wma files?

Hello,

CD burners will burn "Data" to a CD. There can often, software package provided, burn other types of files Like audio files that can be recognised by a domestic CD audio player or a VCD (video CD). If you burn a wma file, I don't see why that can't be inserted into a computer and used as the source data to use for the media player. What are you trying to do exactly???

Re: is the a cd burner that burns wma files?

: Hello,

That's the trouble with Media Player. It loads audio as a WMA file, which is not recognized by programs that use WAV files. I am currently looking for something that will easily convert WMA to WAV. Then, it's just a matter of either burning the WAV files to CD, or converting them to MP3, then burning them.

I stopped using Media Player for most audio file loading. I now mainly use MUSICMATCH. It loads WAV files, and does quite well with conversions and CD burning. Find it on the web under "MUSICMATCH".

Good Luck,

Randy

Re: is the a cd burner that burns wma files?

You need to get a file conveter that will change them to mp3 files, for example Tunespark.
Take it easy,
-DarkPrince

Okay...

I suspect the program you have for burning MP3's to a cd actually Uncompresses the MP3 into a wave, in a format your domestic CD player can understand. There are some CD players (portables) that can play normal audio CD's as well as MP3's but that's in the hardware achitechture.

I don't know enough about WMA files although if you can convert it to a wave file (.wav/.aif) then you can do it. Some companies like real player and emmm Microsoft often attempt to make these sorts of things impossible so you 'have' to use there software. Mp3 as a compression format is a much better choice as so many different applications can play, edit and burn them. try and convert it to something other than WMA. Check the 'Format Conversion' folder of this sites download area.

Best wishes

A good way to do that is with any midi sequencer such as Cubase or Cakewalk, etc. You can choose the instrument for each track, and edit, add effects, or even print a score. If you have a good sampling synth you can use real instrument sounds and it sounds good, but it even sounds better if you add some real audio tracks in sync with the midi tracks. You've got to learn your way around the program which could take weeks to months depending on your abilities, but the payoff can be extrodinary.

mixing software

I'm looking for some simple software that will mix two tracks voice and music. Any suggestions?

Re: mixing software

Is this a live mix or do you want to record it?
Anyway, you might want to try a basic multi-track recorder. DDClip is decent freeware.

play wav file

Can we play .wav files on a the normal stereo cd system ???

thanks !

Geoffroy

Most if not all CD burning software...

...will allow you to burn an Audio CD. Toast for the mac allows burning directly from uncompressed formats like .wav/.aif as well as directly from Mp3's. Just make sure the software knows that it's burning audio and NOT data.

Steve...R

Re: play wav file

You will have to burn the WAVs as CDA files. A program like Nero should get you started.

Mac or Windows

Could be a chance seeing you mention .aif that you are using a Macintosh. If this is the case, look in the file area on this site under FORMAT CONVERTORS and you will find a few options...

Left click on the little "o" on the left of the EQ. click preferences, click on plugins..output plugins. change from nullsoft waveout to nullsoft disk writer. make sure you change it back (after you finished making WAV's). click the configure button to select where to write the WAV's on your hard drive.

good luck!

Need name of effect.

I need to know the name of the effect used on Kid Rock's vocals in Only God Knows Why. It's used in many other songs, but that's the one that seems to come to mind. It kinda digitizes the vocals. If anyone can tell me what this is called and where I can get a DirectX Plugin for it, it will be greatly appreciated. Please email me the info. mklink@access995.com

Que software me aconsejáis para almacenar voz.

Hola,
¿ pido milagros?

Saludos y Gracias.

Reaon 1.0 won't work

Does anyone have any insight into why Reason 1.0 gives disk problem error after the serial number is entered correctly. i Can't seem to install propellerheads software! Because of copy protection i can't return it either without an okay from Sweden! RIDICULOUS!

PlayerPRO Music...

Well, it's been awhile since I touched a mac but I finally got my hands on an old powermac 7100/66... Ahhh, the good ol days... And I have a copy of PlayerPro but I have one question. I had an old copy about 8 years ago now, and the demo music was the coolest song I had ever heard in my entire life!! I can't remember what the song was called, but it was one of the demo mods that came with playerpro. I think it was like, an old version.. like.. god.. I can't remember. But it was an older version. I can't find this mod anywhere so I'm hoping that someone here knows of a place I can download the song... Thanks...
