WHAT IS WMA FORMAT?????????????

It says that files in WMA format allow 60 minutes on my mp3 player, while mp3 files only allow up to 30 minutes.. what is WMA and how do i convert?

Can anyone give me their thoughts on using Rocket Power (either within Cubase 5.0 or via the free Logic download) as a full on recording/collaboration tool? I have just started using it as part of the Logic for Rocket 4.6 app (available via www.rocketnetwork.com) and am blown away by it - but wondered if anyone else had used it in the longer term to create a CD etc (something I am intending on doing)

Would love to hear your thoughts...

im relatively new to web page building and i'm using Front Page 98
i set up a page with hover buttons and linked them to midis only to find they wouldn't work when uploaded, now i find FP can't enable that
i have to convert the midis to au ok i dl'd AUSAMPLE.exe..so no explination as to how to make the conversion. i know to you knowledgeable webmasters
this may seem trivial..but i need help. thanks :)

I can't read DAT files using my CD-ROM on my laptop, but the weird thing is if I copy it to my hard-drive and play it, then it'll work. I've downloaded the latest version of Media Player, but still can't read DAT files if reading from CD-ROM. Can you please help. Thanks!!!

convert mp3 to wav

when converting mp3s to wav on winamp, the wav file usually usually comes out heavily compressed (high compression ratio), even with volume peaks clipped. The effect is similar to automatic levvelling in a recording, but still with some distortions in high levels. Does anyone know a way around that or uses another software for conversion?

I generally use audiograbber with a ratio of 256 k/bits and i don`t get any sort of problem with my decoding.

Static when playing recordings???

Hey,
There's so many variables that you haven't addressed. ie, what software, mike, audio card etc. Normally going into a goood quality audio card with a decent mike etc.and keeping your recording levels acceptable produces decent recordings.

I have Wavelab, and I was trying to write a CD, when I try to use the "check" feature, or actually burn the CD, it says there has to be a gap before the first track (at least 2 seconds) no matter how I try to put one in, it won't accept it. Anyone know why?

I'm embarassed to ask - but I'm somewhat perplexed
by something that should be simple. First the system
facts: Abit KT7 mobo, 1 gig Athlon, 256 RAM. with
Pioneer 16x DvD, and a Plextor 12/10/32A, SoundBlaster
Live Platinum sound cared, Windows ME.

I have had some odd problems when inserting a music
CD in the Pioneer drive (but no problems with any
other sort of media). More often than not the system
would lock up and then give another weird blue
screen message upon attempts to eject the CD (something
like a prohibition against removing the volume
when it wasn't ready). All this seems to have
been cured, however, by my disabling the Adaptec/
soundblaster recognition program, which apparently
had been causing more than one program to compete
for playing a CD.

There's also the bizzare fact that in Windows File
Manager/explorer files from the same disc appear
with .wav extensions while in the Pioneer drive and
with .cda extensions in the Plextor drive. This
seems impossible - and I haven't "solved" it yet.

Anyway, the real thrust of my question is this: Given
that I received the machine with quite a bit of
Plextor, Creative, and Microsoft Music software (Windows
Media Player) - and that it all seems to be a
clusterfuck of non-intuitive bells and whistlery, is
there a safe (and preferred) way to just uninstall all
the damned stuff and start over. And when I say
start over, I mean the installation of a straight
forward piece of music control software good for
playing, copying, creating and mixing CDs?

Has anyone been driven crazy by this before?

I'm somewhat accomplished in the ancient art of mixing
music on a home stereo system with multiple tape,
turn table and cd sources - and I want to join
modernity and do this on the PC.........but I'm afraid
I'll fuck it up if I give in to my desire to just
uninstall all this annoying software. And, of course,
I don't know what kind of software is best for
what I want to do.....and that's not only to be
able to copy CDs, but primarily to create heavily
mixed CDs from multiple source media (i.e., even
from stuff on cassettes and vinyl).

Thanks for suffering through my suspect attempt
to elaborate on the difficulty....

PROBLEMS WHIT A ZOOM GFX8

I dont speak english but I try to explain my problem:
I have a ZOOM gfx-8 and I can't connected whit my PC, I connect the cable correctly but no signal found.
I connect teh MIDI OUT connector of the sound card of my PC to the MIDI IN jack of the GFX-8 using a MIDI cable. Whit my Midi keyboard contoller no have problems HOw can I do whit my GKX8?????

Just a thought, your signal form the gfx8 may not be strong enought into the sound card. I go direct form my Zoom 707 into the mixer board and THEN into the pc an dit works fine.

Lost time on CDR

Can anyone solve my problem regarding my CD writer only recording 20 minutes of audio and then telling me that the Cdr. is full.? The following facts may assist -

1. I am practically computer illiterate, so cannot give you a lot of technical information.
2. I am recording records and cassettes onto an Audio CDRW all analogue. This is done by use of a Hi-fi CD Recorder ( Phillips 760).
3.The Audio CDRW plays perfectly on my Computer CD Player. Normally this CDRW has about 70+ minutes of music.
4. Using "Adaptec" easy CD Creator standard edition 3.5 I have tried to copy the audio tracks onto a computer CDR.
5. On each occasion the entire Audio CDRW has not been copied, and on most occasions finishes after 20 minutes, and I am told that the Computer CDR. if full, and it will not accept anymore tracks.
6. Sometimes I get a message telling me that the copying has been completed successfully, but when I play the Computer CDR. the following faults are consistent -
a. It has copied the first 8 or 9 tracks successfully, then
b. All the remaining tracks are shown as being recorded, but when I play them I get about 15 seconds and then it stops.
7. I have downloaded the upgrade for the "Adaptec" software, which has improved it slightly, in that it completes the copying, but when I recheck the tracks there are two or three tracks mid-way through the disc which are faulty ( normally about tracks 10, 11 or 12.)
8. I have had problems with "buffers" but I have solved that problem.
9. I have tried recording at different speeds, doing the entire disc at once, and track by track and it does not make any difference.
10. I have tried different makes of Audio CDRW and Computer CDRW, CDR. and it does not make any difference.
11. I have tried using "professionally shop bought" audio CD's and the same thing happens.
12. I have uninstalled and re-installed the "Adaptec" software and it made no difference.
13 The "Adaptec Direct CD does not work at all, so could the software be faulty?
14. It is a new computer, and I have "SoundBlaster Live 1024" software.
15. There are no other programs running ( That I know off) when I am using the CD writer
Any answers to my problem would be gratefully received. This includes any advice about freeware that I could download to complete the task. Many Thanks

A few tips:

Try doing a full erase of the CDRW disc, instead of a quick erase.

Once you have written songs on a CD-r or CD-RW, it is not reccomended you try to add more songs later, even if the disc is left open, unless you erase your CDRW. THe reason is that after burning the audio, it puts a "buffer" of sorts after that last track, which signifies teh end of the CD, from my understanding(even if the disc is left open.

Disable the Windows "Autorun feature", it tends to cause problems with writing CD's.

Don't use Direct CD. DELETE IT! make sure it is disabled.

If using songs that are from MP3's, or ripped from CD, make sure that the wav file is complete, and not missing part of the track.

hey check out rebirth. its not real easy but no program that you start writing music from scratch is. also another program that just came out is called reason a very awsome program. you can find the demo's for both on propellerhead.com

recording questions cakewalk 9 and effects

Useing Cakewalk 9 can I use copression as I rec on each ch. of audio, also rec with effects on and have effcts asigned to each chanel on the board? Note I"m using gadget wave interface for recording my pre amp is a cassette deck put on rec & pause it works !

its better to add the effects after you record them. then you can make changes. i dont think you can recor with the effetcs anyway

I want to run a Boss DR5 Rythm Machine from a P.C.

I'm trying to find someone who knows how to run a Boss DR5 rythm machine by storing the MIDI for numerous songs on a P.C. I want to be able to store MIDI sequencing commands for any of hundreds of songs that I have programmed on the DR5, then find them later via a (hopefully) intuitive menu interface.

In other words, I want to program a backup band that never asks questions or asks for a bigger cut.

Can anyone help me?

P.S... Boss is a wholly owned subsidiary of Roland Corp.

need help recording guitar

Okay, I need some help recording guitar into the computer. I've been connecting the output of my amp to the line in of my soundcard, but i can't seem to get volume levels, etc right. Everything comes out distorted or else I can barely hear the guitar. Could someone help me out with setting up the proper volume levels and all that? Cause apparently I dont know what the hell I'm doin, eh? heh.. Thanks!

MAKE SURE THE OUTPUT FROM THE AMP IS LINE LEVAL INTO THE COMPUTER. THEN DOUBLE CLICK ON THE SPEAKER ICON ON THE LOWER LEFT. GO TO OPTIONS THEN PROPRITIES.CLICK ON RECORD THEN OK MAKE SURE YOUR LINE LEVEL IS ACTIVATED AND NOT YOUR MIC. IT SOUNDS TO ME LIKE YOU DONT HAVE LINE ACTIVATED GOOD LUCK.

well what your doing now will NOT give good results-
heres 2 solutions-
1.microphone & mic pre amp- to get the sound to a "full" level you NEED a preamp.so with this youd simply mic your amplifier.

2.direct box-you dont plug your amp into the computer.an amp isnt made to record direct its made to supply sound to speakers.

so check out the sans amp,pod,yamaha dg.
what youd want to do to get good results is say-plug your pod into a preamp such as the presonus blue tube and PRESTO-good tone.

so either mic your cabinet(and you need a mic pre amp) or get a sans amp or a pod(and youll still want to go through a pre amp trust me) and record direct.

if youve got a nice collection of amplifiers and your adventureous there are cabinet emulators thts you can plug an amp into then plug that direct to record-one of these is made by palmer.

and if your getting a tiny little sound thats because you need a pre amp in the signal chain.

Your recording problem

Hi, Greg...

The question is, which output of your amp are you patching to your line-in? The term "line-in" tells me that your input is expecting a line-level signal, i.e. that coming from the Pre-amp out line of your guitar amp.

That's the first thing I'd check. After that, make sure you record your guitar part on its own, separate track. Reconcile the relative levels of the guitar (V) sound card instruments in your mixdown.

Let me remind you that no matter how many millions of dollars you squeeze out of the paychecks of the working public, your capitalist enterprise gets to prosecute NOTHING. The prosecution of crimes is something only the representatives of the state and/or the nation may do.

And let me make this perfectly clear: the sovereigns are not at all interested in prosecuting random people who happen to rip off a software company or two. We have far bigger fish to fry.

When i play an MPEG the sound works but the screen goes blank. What the hell am i doing wrong. I have already tried new software but that doesn't work. Please help.

After I changed the internal battery all off my sounds are gone. Are they still there (and I just don't get them to work) or are they completely gone? What can I do about that? Please help me, this case is urgent!
By the way the display shows funny characters...
