Go to the software section for cd rippers and read the descriptions, and get one.

CONVERTING FILES

I would like to locate a software application that would allow me to convert MIDI files to WAV files and then ultimately to MP3 files, (or if there is such a software program out there, to convert MIDI files directly into MP3's. I teach a computer class with a heavy emphasis in music composition and I'd like to be able to "burn" CD's with the music created by the students. Any help you can give me regarding the right software program would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Bill Reid

Get a compatible soundcard to fully take advantage of DP. If not go to control panel>sound>input>select "built in mic". Also make sure output is configured to "built in" if you don't have an audio card. Sounds simple but hey, thats all I got with that brief info. I am new in this home studio gig.My setup includes an mpc3000 sampler,vs880 xpanded h/disk recorder,Mackie16 channel mixer,xp80,xp50,wsa1 keyboards.Sequencing software is calkwalk's 3.1 and 8.soundcard on pc is SBlive platinum.I also have cool edit pro 1.2 and sound forge 4.5.My biggest problem is maximising routes so that i get the best of the software and hard ware.My monitors are tannoys sb2's.My mixdowns are very bassy and distorted after burning on cd and the effects are very wet.however it sounds perfect on my monitors.What am I doing wrong and what sugestions would one give.The bass is sent on a seperate channel and is running mono whith no effects.Also the audio afer normalising is low in volume and I normalise to -1 decibles.I am confused.Please help.

It is a pretty long explaination but I will talk to you about it if you want to. If you are AOL IM me so I don't have to type out a huge long explaination.

cakewalk guitar tracks!

I saw cakewalk guitar tracks in the music store yesterday and the list of features looks impressive! Is this the best product for recording guitar, or is something else out there better? I am especially interested in guitar tracks and making drum lines or drum loops along with it! thanks.... monk

guitar tracks is great! i've been using it fro about four months now, and it's just wonderful. Its very easy to use, and the drum loops are impressive. I've already made a three song demo cd on my own with this program. I'm considering buying add-ons for the drag and drop drummer, for some more variety. One more thing, make sure you've got a pretty fast computer with plenty of hard drive space, or else you'll get dropouts.

I might have some tips to help you.
First of all check if you're synth is connected correctly (midi out to midi in and back).If so try to switch cables to see if both work properly.
I used to record with an M1 in the sequencer mode.
Check if all tracks are sending midi data seperately from channel 1 up to 16. Next check if within Cubase "inputs" is set to "enabled" in the midi setup dialog box.

It is probably that your soundcard mixer is either muted on the channel that you are using (i.e. mic, line) or that the input volume is too low. Go to both your soundcards mixer and the windows mixer and make sure all imputs are enabled and that the volume is up.

HELP I am going nuts!!

i am on a mac, i down loaded MixmanStudioDemo.exe just to get started making some techno, but when i try and open it a message comes up saying: The document "MixManStudioDemo.exe" could not be opened, because the application program that created it could not be found, could not find a translation extension with appropriate translators" please help i am going isane as well as nuts, i realy want to get started.

Sorry buddy, but that is a windows application.
It won't run on a mac. The only solution may
be using Virtual PC, but I am not 100% sure
whether that will work.

There are a fair few softsynth programs on the Mac. The one that springs to mind that is well worth a look is Rebirth which although oldish and well used is still fun to play with. There is a demo I think in the Softsynth file area of this website. Go take a look...

If you wait a small while then 'Reason' from Propellerheads will be released which will do virtually anything you want it to. It's a sampler softsynth effects machine etc etc etc... Check out some MP3's of what it sounds like (poorish demos!) at the propellerheads site... you'll have to dig for them yourself but they are there! Enjoy...
