vynils to cds

Hi, i got old jazz vynils that i want to record on cds.
The recorder should have at least 40 mn length, and let me put different vynil recordings on one cd.
My PC is HP Pavilion 6620 with 500Mhz AMDK62, 10 Go HD, and 184 Mo SDRAM; all of it is IDE.
I got Adaptec software (Direct cd & Easy cd creator).
I saw the Dart software on your site, but can you please help me to choose the good one ? Thank you.

Hi Eric
I too am converting lots of old jazz vinyls to CD, often I get 2 records on one cd although I sometimes have to leave a track or two off. I have a pentium 2 with 64M and a 6 gig hard drive.
I use Easy CD creator just to burn the cds. To capture the records onto the hard disc I use a program called AUDIOTOOLS. Dart is rather expensive so for cleaning up so I use GROOVE MECHANIC or sometimes DEPOPPER. I split the tracks with COOLEDIT96 and then finally burn with the free version of Easy CD Creator (ver3.5c) which came with my burner. Hope this helps

has anyone ever had their cd burner just disappear? starting using napster few days ago. today it vanished. my neices also started using it and next day there burner disappeared then reappeared the next day. the only thing we both had in common was napster. any ideas?

Compressing a .wav file

An MP3 compressor perhaps???
otherwse, a program like Winzip can compress it too, however, it has to be de-compressed to listen to it.

Help me out here! I have encoded songs from CD's using MVP for Mac. Only problem is that the songs take up too much space on my hard drive. So,.. my question is how to change...water to wine???...Hell, NO. How do I change the file format (RIFF??) into MP3 files????

First of all, if you have the option, save them as Wav or AIFF then, you need to only convert. however, your in a different situateion.
Get a good audio editor for Mac, I dont' know the Mac stuff just PC.
if you get a good editor, you can drop the riff file into the editor, and save it as any format that the program supports. If it doens't support MP3, then save as WAV or AIFF, then get an MP3 encoder.

midi to good quality mp3

I have a midi-keyboard that I record on. But when I transfer the file into my computer, the sound quality really sucks. Is there a program I can use to make it sound better? Any suggestions? Any help would be very much appreciated!!! Thank you in advance!

MIDI is of the type of music where the quality of the output is dependant on your output driver. try a different driver, or get updates...

Try <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/HammerHead_Rhythm_Station/">Hammerhead</a>. You can import your sounds into a sample bank if you want to use samples as well. Simple but a very effective program. To get the sound you want, I'd advise you get the samples.

A little tip, when you compress to an MP3, remember that the sample rate (44Khz or 22Khz does not significantly affect the size of the MP3. Primarily it's the data rate(16Kbps or 128 Kbps)

Mini Disc to CD writer

I have a lot of live singing recording in my Mini Discs & I want to record them through CD Writer to make playable CD for my friends. Do you have any suggestion for me or which program can do it. My sound card in PC is a Creative AWE64 16 bit audio card. My CD writer/burner is Plextor 8/4/32x.

Your advice would be very appreciated. Thanks!

Just connect the line-out of your md player to the line-in of your soundcard (either digital or analog). I record my music with Soundforge 4.0 while playing the songs with the md player through my Soundblaster Live and save them as WAV files. Instead of Soundforge there are lots of other programs to make audio recordings with like Cool Edit, Dart Pro, Cakewalk, Cubase. Basically they all work the same. The WAV files you can burn to CD-R (make sure you're creating an audio disc) so you can play it in every regular cd player.

If you are 'ripping' songs off a CD, try using a program like <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/MusicMatchJukebox_win32/">MusicMatch Jukebox</a>. It's easy to use. Now, you will want to record from the CD. You should record to MP3 at 128Kbps. Roughly, for every minute of music you will take up a megabyte of disc space. Once you have the MP3s, you will need to upload them to your server in roughly the same way as you would an image file. If you want to stream the MP3s (so people can listen to a song as it downloads), I'd recommend you use a service like MP3.com. You can even sell your CDs via their site. MusicMatch even has tutorials on their site. you can check out <a href="http://www.mp3machine.com/">http://www.mp3machine.com/</a> for a huge collection of MP3 software.

Giga Sampler is a software sampler. Its basically a software version of a hardware sampler.

Problem with reading source disc

I am using Easy CD and I've made a few coasters recently. It seems that while using DAO and burning from CD to CDR, the CDR ejects out of the burner and my error msg is something like "Could not read from source disc". So, if there are 15 songs on the CD being copied, it gets thru 11 and then ejects the CDr with that message. Also happens when I try to do it from a disc image, actually while attempting to make the image before it gets burned. My PC is a P233 with 64 MB RAM, an Imation 8x20 burner and a 24x Toshiba CD-ROM. About 95% of the CDRs I copy come out alright, just these last few are stubborn. Can anyone shed a little light on this? Thanks in advance...Ed

If it's a file with a "zip" extension then you'll first have to "unzip" it so to speak in order to run it. To do so, you'll first have to install the Winzip program. You can get it for free at most download sites, and probably you will find it over here at Hitsquad.com. Otherwise try to get it over here:

Writing a CD that will play anywhere

I recently purchased a CD writer. The downloaded music will play on the PC or my old CD player but not on a newer one. I tried making the MP3 files wav but that is not working either.

It sounds that your problem is the type of CD you are using. To use a written CD in a stereo, it has to be a CD-R. Check the case of the CD you are using, if it is CD-RW, this is your problem. CD-RW's do not work in most stereos, something to do with disc thickness and laser strength i think. All you need to do is buy a CD-R disc and it should work in your new stereo.

Why do i have to convert MP3's into WAV's? Why not just change the extension from .mp3 to .wav? This seems to work. By doing it this way, will it work on a CD?

You DON'T have to convert mp3 files if you're only going to play them back on your pc. In that case it doesn't make sense to change the extension altogether. If your player (Winamp for instance) is associated with both extensions, mp3 and WAV, the files will be played anyway. If you want to burn the music files on a CD-R in order to play them on a regular stereo CD-player, then you HAVE to convert the mp3 files to WAV files.
You can't just change the extension cause they are very different kind of formats. If you would succeed to burn an mp3 file with changed extension to an audio disc there's no way your stereo cd player is going to play it.

Wasn't there any software included when you bought it? In that case you should get some, like Nero Burning ROM (works very well for me), but of course there are others like Easy CD Creator from Adaptec. Nero has a wizzard that will guide you through the process, there's really nothing to it, I promise!
