44.1Mhz or bust ??

I want to record a voice (no music) tutorial from a cassette tape to CDR. I have the software to do the copy to the hard drive and from the hard drive to the CDR. Everywhere I've read, it says to copy at 44.1, 16bit, stereo. This is just a plain ol' lecture. My question is, why do I need 44MHz? Can't I do it at a smaller sampling rate or whatever you call it? I can handle a loss in quality. Does copying to a CDR ALWAYS require 44MHz, 16 bit, and stereo? I guess I could waste a bunch of CDRs to find out, but it's much cheaper to ask... and hey, I might just learn something. :)

To avoid bordem for the regular contributors here would people take the time to read down the page to find whether their questions have already been answered. The are always lots of "HOW DO I CONVERT MP3 TO WAV" questions floating around which have many many answers previously to the point that they are not getting answered anymore. Someone recently moaned about not getting replies for some questions, I hope this explains the reasons why...

record with platinium

I have a sound blaster live platinium. i want to record musics from VCR. I connect VCR lines out to platinium line in but no result neither when I try to record from microphone. I don't hear any sound and so I don't record anything. Mute options are OK.
When listenning audio CD from internal CD player the sound is delivered in the headphons correctly.
The record from audio CD is correct too.

Try Goldwave - still Shareware, but relatively
unrestricted. It has really good help screens - which you should read-the interface is not as intuitive as CoolEdit - though it does more things.

Problem with Winamp conversion from mp3 to wav

I've converted over a hundred songs from Napster, so I am familiar with how to do this. My problem is I can't access songs I've downloaded from other sites. When I open my files with winamp at the "all supported files" settings my songs won't appear in my "My Music" file to start the process. However, if I change the settingto "All Files" the songs appear but they won't convert. The songs won't start playing to insure that when I do convert, the song is "ready and there" to submit to the process. I don't know about your problem for sure, but one solution might be this:

copy the mp3's you are having trouble with from other sites into your "my music" directory with the rest of your napster songs.

then try loading napster and see if you can play them with napster's mp3 player.

Along the same lines, try downloading different mp3 players. winamp can be unreliable,and there is a really good one out there made by "XING"

OK, download a MIDI file, and open it up in a program that will play it. Then go to control panel, then Multimedia, the MIDI tab, then click under the single device box, the MIDI out. That should route the MIDI signal to your sound card's MIDI out. You then need a 15 pin to 2 MIDI connectors. Hook the MIDI out on the cable to the MIDI in on your keyboard and you should be good to go.

I also take the same view. I am a musician, and Napster pisses me off because, I don't know about you, but I like to eat. Napster just makes it a little bit harder for us all. If you want to make musixc and want to get paid for it, return the favor to the software companies and DON'T RIP THEM OFF!!!

Hi everybody! I'm recording drums with my ISIS Maxi Studio but I often meet great synchro problems, the 8 tracks starts recording at different times!!! Why? What can I do? I have PIII 600 128MB RAM hd EIDE 20GB 7200rpm. It's very boring to manually synchro the tracks!

A shareware called Streambox Ripper v.2009 will convert real audio files to wav. and so on, but it will only decode 10 songs. You can buy Streambox Ripper for $34 at www.streambox.com. or find some other way to #@!# the software.

Excellent purchase, the JV1010 is an excellent module. Massiva is a good program, and its free at the Shareware Music Machine.

For crying out loud people, 90% of the questions on here could be answered within 30 seconds by posting a query at Google or Alltheweb. Another solution would be to actually get off those overfed butts and go out and BUY...that's right, BUY ,a CD rather than converting MP3s from Napster.Alternatively, why don't all you cheapskates go back to listening to music on your crappy Walkmans? Think about it...it makes sense; no more "I can't convert the latest Kid Rock track from MP3 to CDA" hassles, no more using up Internet bandwidth needlessly, no more "P133z3 1 n33d Audio Catalyst NOW d00d". Simply borrow whatever from a friend of a friend, bang it in that old ghetto blaster that's been gathering dust in the garage, a bit of tape to tape magic et voila...a perfectly good copy ;-) (frankly I reckon less than half of you penny pinchers could tell the difference between something recorded like that and something recorded on the latest digital mastering machines anyway).Problem solved...

Cheers for the reply Rev. I think your correct about the Napster situation although I am an owner of Macster for the Macintosh and use it when it works, (Not too busy!). I do buy commercial music but am now a firm hater of the industry as it stands due to it's ability to govern what we listen to for financial reasons. Me and a guy called GearHead have started a forum (it's Gearheads hard work mainly) that deals with discussions on Napster and the ethics surrounding it. The whole thing for us is that we have now found a way to share our music with the masses for nothing, using the MP3 format and links to and from our own free hosted sites. I would assume that anyone that has some things they would like heard and downloaded would be interested. all the information on how gearhead has got his up and running is available to the forum and he is happy to give a link to your site on his own.

It's early days but the whole thing is generating more interest via E-mails than we had expected. I hope with your view of the leaching aspect of the net that you will find solace in our idea (probably not new but hey!). Why not pop along and give us your views and try and generate some interest in the idea and maybe set up your own free hosted site with your own music and ideas. There is a place you can have 100megs and a board of your own, details on the forum!

Hey there,

There are still heaps of people who want to know how to make MP3s or burn to CD. We're here to help them and hopefully they can pass their knowledge onto other people in the forum. There are a lot of the same questions posted but, at the same time, we're all in the forum to help each other. I'm sure I could ask some questions in other forums that people have heard before. This is a musicians' forum and a lot of musicians' want to do a lot of the similar things with MP3. If people ask the same questions and it annoys you, cut them some slack.

mini disk to mp3?

There appears to be a lot of knowledge on mp3 to cd, however I have only seen one post on this subject, without a reply.

Wake up! This question has been answered already a few times, twice at least by myself. Just scroll down on the message board or check the archives. Might save you time waiting for an answer in the future.

Help with Encore 3.0

How in the hell can I select other instruments appart
from the General Midi list?
I have a MaxiSound Fortissimo soundcard that it´s
supposed to have lots of other instruments to choose
from but I can´t find a way to select them. The only
instruments that I can use while composing with Encore
are from the General Midi list. That sucks!
´Cause there is serious a serious sound limitation.
Please help!
