Re: PLEASE HELP with WAV Recording!!
Are you using a mac? It sounds like you are if you
are using sound recorder, if you that is the case
then the mac uses "aiff" sound files when burning
audio to a cd, not wav files.
Re: PLEASE HELP with WAV Recording!!
Hello there,
There are heaps of decent programs out there on Shareware Music Machine which can do this for you. One popular program is Cool Edit 96. If this doesn't tickle your fancy, take a broswe through our Audio section.
Warm regards

: Can someone recommend a shareware program that would do this? And what would be the easiest way to go about doing this whole process? I'm new to converting sound files, compression, etc., so ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated!

Suggestion: audio file conversion page
Lots of posting ask how to convert between audio file
formats. Wouldn't it make sense for Hitsquad to
enlarge the "quick primer on MID<->WAV" (which was a
very good one) to an abstract on how to convert
between RA - MOD - WAV and the like ? Maybe it would
even be good to set it as a link on top of the
WWWBOARD discussion page.
Just my $0.02 ...
Greetings,
Harald
Re: Suggestion: audio file conversion page
Hey there Harald,
This is a great suggestion. How about I try to get started on something like this in the near future? I really appreciate your contributions to the discussions. If you have any advice or would like to have some input, please get in touch.
Warm regards

Need help on converting MP3 file to WAV and into Audio CD's
I recently started play MP3 files and would like to convert them into wav file and also into Audio CDs so that i can listen to them even on the road.
Any help that can be offered would be appreciated.
Thanks a lot.
Re: Need help on converting MP3 file to WAV and into Audio CD's
in winamp there's a plugin called something like out_disc. Activate that in the preferenses
and then just "play" the songs. A regular CD burnerprogram
can easily burn .CDA from wav-files.. good luck!

Copying Enhanced CD's
I just bought a Limp Bizkit Cd, and was trying to copy it. It turns out that the audio is first followed by the data, and not the other way around, and it won't let me copy it. How or is it possible too???

How to turn an AIFF into a Mac MP2?
Hi. I'm a musician and I wanted to put 30 second MP2s (not full MP3s) on my web site similar to those used on CDNOW or Music Boulevard. Does anyone know how to do this or if their is a shareware converter available? Thanks - Rob
Where can I find Cubase VST or Cool edit pro?
Where can I find them and witch one's the best ?
Re: Where can I find Cubase VST or Cool edit pro?
: Where can I find them and witch one's the best ?
There isn't a downloadable version of VST but you can order it from www.steinberg.net.
There is a version of Cool Edit Pro you can download at www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Cool_Edit_Pro/.
As to which one is best it really depends on what you want to do - Cool Edit is a lot cheaper but doesn't have as many features - this is probably an advantage if you don't do a lot of MIDI sequencing or notation and basically just want to do hard disk recording.
some comments about mp3
Hello every guy here,
In the pass 9 months, i just find that most guy here in this
discussion forum ask the same Qs. : 1)How to convert mp3->wave->cdr->ra
or in reverse direction.
Maybe they want to publish there song in the internet, or
they want to get "free lunch" from the great internet
resources.
I don't want to discuss whether mp3 is legal or illegal,
I just want to discuss the QUALITY of mp3 and those
"tricks" done by those GREAT COMPANY WHO MADE MP3 player.
So, first of all, many mp3 maker claim that mp3 can compress
the audio greatly but without changing the quality of music by
a "VERY SPECIAL METHOD", what does it means "VERY SPECIAL METHOD"?
fuck u, it's a simple method, just cutting the extreme
low and extreme high ends of the song, this method is
usually used at Studio called EQ. With careful adjustment,
delete the frquency that the people can't listen.
It seems to be this compress method is very "clever",
however, music is different from sound, i mean
music is combination of sound, different combination of sound
lead different result. Just an example, when u listen
to some music under the noisy traffic, something is seemed
to be missing, but at a silent situation, everything is clear
again. So they (computer experts) claim that no loss of
music will be found, but actually the quality of music has
become lower.
This compress method is like JPEG. u know, not every
graphics is suitble using JPEG compression. MP3 is the same.
if u have listen to Mp3, u may find that the music is softer
, less powerful, the vocal is very clear. for those pop
song feauring the vocal that may be ok, but for those rock
song, it's really a bad compress process because the power
of this kind of music is greatly come from the LOW frequency(BASS)
&High frequency(guitar harmonics , cymbal). u may find
many example. So i think mp3 is suitable for those vocal-oriented
song (i mean extrmely vocal-oriented).
the second thing i would like to concern is, the quality
of the sound is not mainly due to the format of the songfile.
rather, it depends on your audio system. For digital
audio system, (those CD, MD, fall on this catergory)
the most important part is called DAC(Digital to analog converter), which is installed
to your CD player or MD player to turn digital signal to analog signal,
and the anolog signal drive the loudspeaker and become
what we heard.Actually every format of songfile(wav, mp3,
mid, ra, cdr..) needs a DAC to convert the signal to what we listen.
So , do u know why an mp3 player can cost much less then
Cd player or MD player? The reason is u can install a
cheaper DAC converter in your player because the mp3
file(no high end and low end). They don't like those
CD player, because the filetype(.cdr, Actually wav)
no cutting the high and low, u need a more excellent
DAC to express these frequencies. So u know what's the
problem is.
Also, for the loudspeakers, u need not use
an excellent loudspeaker to play mp3, so the computer
can install a cheap loudspeaker and give u an impression
that the sound has no difference, but actually u lose
everything in this mp3 format.
Don't be decieved by those mp3 example, they just
compose a song that is full of mid-frequencies, make
u feel that the sounding is good, and later compared it
to the original cd music, surely, no difference!
i can just see many computer-guys are GREAT LIER, not
music-lovers, they just need to compress everything,
not to show u the beauty of music, they just want to get
money from u, but give u the poorest product.
There's no free lunch in the world, the more u pay effort
to mp3, the more you lose.
Re: some comments about mp3
Hi there,
I enjoyed what you had to say about MP3. Maybe there are a lot of people out there who feel that it is over-hyped? Are there? Let us know what you all think about MP3.
Cheers

imacs and recording?
I purchased an iMac recently with my girlfriend--great box--and was wondering about the present and near future of recording with an iMac. I have heard that the PCI-based systems from Event Technologies and others will soon be available for Mac, but therein lays the problem--no PCI bays. I have heard also that the USB-based system from Roland is currently available for Mac, albeit with PC-oriented directions. So is the Roland all there is? Are there any forthcoming USB systems? Other than such large and expensive packages as Cubase, are there any software-based recording options available or upcoming I should know about? The guys at the music stores that I have been to have been singularly unhelpful. Any info out there?

keep your eyes open. MOTU would be a good company to contact. MIDI probably isn't an issue but, digital audio might be. All cards manufactured have traditionally been PCI so companies get sales from both platforms. I have read a lot about firwire and that seems to be where things will end up going.

I downloaded a copy of Ra2Wav from a Japanese web sight. Can't remeber the name though. The trial version Does convert real audio to wave files, but it keeps saying this is demo over top of the wave file. I am now currently trying to find another program that does the same thing. I suggest you do to, it's not worth the heartache.

How to turn Rebirth to MP3/WAV?
Is there a good way to pipe Rebirth patterns straigt to MP3/WAV?
Mac software for a neophyte
I want to try making music on my Mac (5500/225, 96 MB Ram, built-in mic)
but don't know where to start. I do know that I am not looking for something
like Groovemaker. I hope to be able to create sounds from scratch as well as input
sampled sounds and edit them. Then I want to be able to loop and sequence these
sounds freely in multiple tracks. Finally, I hope that I can manipulate the volume
and L-R channel of individual sounds at different points in a composition. I am
not too concerned about having live control and do not plan to use any input device
other than the built-in mic initially .
I probably don't have the jargon right, but I hope it makes some sense.
Any suggestions on appropriate software, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Playing PC Midi file through GM-keyboard
I'd like to play midi files using a Win-95/98/NT utility
through my GM-compatible keyboard. I bought the recommended
cable connector to link the PC serial port to the Midi
connectors on the keyboard, but I guess I need some kind
of device driver that tells the computer to send
midi data through the serial port. Can anyone advise
me about how to get hold of software to do this?
I'm sorry if this is a really basic question, but
I've been searching the Web for quite a while...
Thanks
Rick
Re: Playing PC Midi file through GM-keyboard
In your notation, or midi software should have the ability to set the midi out device. Make sure it is set to match the midi out device available under the multimedia settings in the control panel.

Re: Playing PC Midi file through GM-keyboard
I have a laptop.
It does not have a joystick port, only serial port.
Is it mandatory to use a connection from the pc to the music keyboard using the joystick port?
I thinks should exist a way to connecting from the serial port of the laptop to the music keyboard.
Please advice!!
Re: Playing PC Midi file through GM-keyboard
Rick,
assuming your soundcard has been properly installed, your have
to set the output board (under Properties - Multimedia - MIDI)
to the MIDI OUT port of the soundcard. This is not a very
detailed answer, but nevertheless, I hope it helps...
