I have an adat pcr card and cubase vst 3.7. I want to know is their a way to sync my adat to cubase to have cubase controlling my adat and if so how to do that.

Native-Instruments Reaktor, generator

I want to completely remove all of my hardware synths and samplers and go with a strictly computer based setup, but I need testimonial that this is either a really good or a really bad idea. I am thinking seriously of purchasing Native Instruments Reaktor pack along with one of their controllers. Please E-mail me or respond to this post any and all users of soft synths. thanks

Well it can be a good idea but there are a few drawbacks...
- you'll want to have lots of processing power and RAM on your computer otherwise things start to get out of sync
- you'll need a big monitor (21 inch) because the screen can get cluttered with lots of recording software, synths, mixers etc.

streaming audio help

HOw do i place audio on my web site and have it stream .
I have all the files saved in .ra and .rm formats but when i click on them, it downloads instead of streams.
i'm don't know html (using a shell)

There's a good tutorial on this site called <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/news/9904_106/">Pseudo-streaming your music</a>

If that doesn't solve your problem you might need to ask your web server's administrator to set the correct MIME TYPES to allow .ra & .rm files to stream.

If they won't do that (and many won't) you can get an account with a proper RealMedia server which delivers better quality and allows extra features like fast forward, rewind etc - there's one at <a href="http://www.audioplayer.com">www.audioplayer.com</a>.

you need to have Windows NT4 server running with Netshow server in order to stream your own stations.

Where can find a program that will assign midi sounds to my keyboard keys so that I can record and layer sounds. Something that uses my soundblaster's default midi library and was shareware would be even better. Any ideas?

You'll need a prog. like easy cd creator...or similar. You have to extract .WAVs from a cd or make your own and then use the prog to burn them onto cd. It's very easy. mp3 can't be played on home stereo without a player but Wavelab encodes to .WAV and compresses files. The file is smaller but sounds worse than a standard .WAV

Anybody know a little bit about taking an MP3 file and taking it apart, (plugging the computer into the mixer) software... (shareware) and are MP3's COPYWRIGHTED or can they be sampled, remixed, etc...

stereo or mono in final mix

I want to mix down a couple of tracks (midi and audio)to put on a CD. I have the choice to do so in mono or stereo. Since the wavefile get much larger in stereo I was wondering if there is any improvement in the quality of the sound (actually: is there any REAL stereoeffect noticeable)to justify me to mix it down in stereo

Chris,

it all depends on the music you are recording:
if you have different instruments which should be
somewhere within a stereo panorama, of course you have to
use stereo. The same applies for e.g. synthesizer sounds
which make use of the stereo panorama. If you haven't any
reason to use stereo, you may use mono to save memory.

Nevertheless, AFAIK, cd burning software accepts only stereo
WAV files or converts mono WAV files to stereo itself by
putting the same information on the left and right track.

You should look around of the "Red Book" Specification for CDs
to find out if normal audio CDs HAVE to be stereo.

Soundblaster Live! card problems

Hi. I recently purchased a Soundblaster Live! card second-hand. The manual wasn't with it. It is installed in my computer and works - sound and music comes through it - but I haven't been able to install the Liveware program (available on-line)to it, nor the program that came with it on the CD.

I keep getting a message saying that I haven't got the minimum requirement of Pentium 130 and 16 megs of RAM. Well, I have a Cyrix P200+ chip and 32 megs of RAM, which should be ample. Went to the sblive web-site, where it was said there was a problem with Cyrix chips - they gave the "fix" file as a download, I downloaded it and installed it - two or three times! STILL no joy with installing these programs - message - minimum requirements haven't been met.

Anyone have this problem, or a solution?

Also, I don't know what the other three inputs besides the mike input are, as they are not labelled.

Yes i just purchased the sound b. live value card new with the cd rom , you may need that cd to install "all" the software and drivers nessisary so if you would like it i guess i can send like all of the files to your e-mail address.
Then you can properly install your card.
Now can you help me? i have rebirth 1.o and i want the upgrade and i understand its free on the net but i cant find it for the life of me do you know anything about it?
Oh and 1 more thing, double click the little speaker icon down in the lower right hand corner of your screen and draw up your mixer. Now unmute your microphone, then select options and properties and select "RECORD" controll and "select" your mic, now listen carefully does it sound like caca? do you hear hardrive sounds when running something? well i do real bad and id like to know how to fix the problem......ideas?

Although it's not a guarantee it will work, the Live! card has a special driver available at the SoundBlaster site designed for the Cyrix chip. It will not solve ALL the problems you have, but will, at least, allow you to use some of the features of the card. It seems the only chip that card will work with is an Intel.

The outputs are;
green - out to speaker
red - mic
black - line in

There sould be two outputs - one is for your standard computer speakers, the other is for another set of speakers for surround sound. With the Cyrix chip, I wouldn't worry about trying surround sound. The card has great sound, IF you have just the right computer to run it in.

A better choice, and only $20 to $30 is the Ensoniq card. It sounds excellent, is inexpensive, and isn't demanding on your existing hardware.

As a final note, I've had two Live! cards... and gave them both away. Real pain in the butt.
