Can anyone tell me the name of the sound wave Roger Troutman of ZAPP uses on his Yamaha DX100 that is pushed through his Talkbox?

I'm here 2 tell ya'll that Mrgoovali@netzero.net got me sounding just like Roger. And he's got it going on when it comes to having that Roger sound!!! Mr.Groovali is the s**t!!!!
zapp and Roger patch for the Korg triton
Hey I need help getting that rougher sound on my triton I tried didn't patches but still can't get that sound. Unfortunately the triton is the only board I have im sure it can be done i just don't know how to do it, please help me or if you can, thanks in advance!

Roger and the Talkbox Sound
hey i just got connected to this one kat in california, and man he really has the Roger voice, I talked to him, and he played for me for hours on end, he didnt rush me off the phone, or anything, He had patience for me, and he was very friendly to me. He showed me so many Roger shows it was head spinning. He was the ZappMaster i called him, he was so laid back. He's known Roger for many many years and he has been gettin things along the way, i was just blown away at this guys knowledge of Roger and the box. He can play just like the kat. but he dont say so, he just plays he says to do it, He's got the patterns down, dictations, pronunciations, man if i didnt know so, i would swear it was Roger. He played me videos over the phone and they sounded so gooooood, i want them noooww!!!! Im hoping to strike up a deal with him, trade or something, i dont care, Hes got the goods, i want his shit, If we were smart, $ talks bullshit walks, really, Shit id pay for quality, even if he didnt ask for it, noone out there has shit, i havent found anyone who could touch this kat yet either, and still noone has mentioned this kat at all?? who is he?? sure glad i found him thanks to a close friend in Los Angeles, And im not about to give out my source, shit and have you all take my Thunder noway............Holla.......Anthony

I know from past experiences seeing Roger in concert here in Denver ,Co The sound I did get real familiar with was the sax and a great harmonic sound, I also play a hialtalkbox and the sound I get is really close to his, but never as great as his. Miss ya Roger!!!!!!!!

Roger used a Electro Harmonix Golden Throat Mouth Tube Talk Box. They are no longer made but Jim Dunlop makes a excellent talkbox... Heil Talk Box, you can find them at musiciansfriend.com.

FIRST OF ALL LET ME START BY SAYING THAT ALL OF YOU NEED TO REPROGRAM YOU THINKING. START FRESH, THIS IS NO INSULT. PLEASE DONT TRIP. CHECK THIS OUT.... I WAS A FRIEND OF ROGERS AND THE ZAPP BAND, STILL AM......
ROGER USED A YAMAHA DX100, THATS TRUE... THE REASON HE CHANGED FROM THE MINI MOOG WAS BECAUSE IT HAD TUBE FUSES. WHICH WOULD WARM UP SO HOT THAT IT WOULD MELT AND WARP HIS VOICE. SO HE FOUND ANOTHER OUTLET. THE DX100. IT JUST HAPPENED TO BE VERY SMALL AND PORTABLE. THE SOUND WAVE IS NOT, AND I MEAN, IS NOT SAWTOOTH!!!!!!!!!! CORRECTION TO YOU PAUL. IT FACT IT IS THE CODE ON THE DX100 OF " SAWPULSE ". NOW THAT IS SOMETHING YOU ALL CAN TRUST ME ON. SERIOUSLY... I HAVE ONE AND I ALSO HAVE THE VOICE CODES TO THAT EXACT SOUND OF ROGERS VOICE. YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE PERIMETERS TWEEKED JUST THE RIGHT WAY.

It's TRUE Roger Troutman did in fact use the Sawtooth sound on his Yamaha DX100 (not the hard brass sound) and he changed it slightly to mimic the mini moog sound he was using before switching to the more protable, light weight DX100. I have this keyboard and have recreated Roger's talkbox sound exactly. It's the sawtooth sound people, trust me! Keep bouncing!!!

roger uses the hard brass program on the yamaha....i know the program and the parameters of the patch

If you have the vintage archives expansion card, its the KORGMINI 700s you have to do some modifications to it. adjust the highs and mids. there is alot more that you need to do. i'm sure you'll figure the rest out. happy talkboxin' :)

To those who posted their response to this question are all incorrect. The sound Roger Troutman pushed through his talkbox was a modified SAWTOOTH wave sound.

You're all still wrong...the sawtooth was edited but the actual talkbox sound was really a combination of midi-lead programs. Sometimes it was a morphed or muted trumpet transposed, sometimes a brass patch...etc. Roger and Zapp manually maintained their talkbox. I run my DX-7 through a vocder all the time - any analog FM Brass Patch from the DX-7 in the higher octave can re-create Roger's sound.

I'm wondering how vintage vocoder does he put into the talk-box, maybe the old EMS, the Roland VP- 330, the seinheiser...???

HI! this is juan rastafella again, of course you know that george and bootsy brought roger and zapp out, so to make that "sir nose" type voice sound even funkier they used an old anolog vocoder and sent it thru his talkbox. He admitted it in an interview back in the 80's
