Drumloop creation

Hi there, could anyone recommend a drum loop creation tool, that can import MIDI-Files (as groove templates)?
I've tried several but it seems that there is none around that can do this. I usually play drum grooves on my synth and would like to have an application which can take over groove and attack from the MIDI-File....
A wave file should be of course assignable to each note (instrument).

TIA

Hey how ya doin.

Ever hear of fruity loops? I would think that should be able to do it, its a great program. If ya want to try it out to see if it would work for you email me and Ill email ya the program....

Re: Hey how ya doin.

: Ever hear of fruity loops?
Yes, I've tried it also out and it's pretty handy for loop creation but it can't import MIDI groove patterns....

Anyway, thanks for your offer.

Play it loud!

Well actually

actually their web page finally went back up, so you could download it from their webpage... fruityloops.com

How do I set up a Kawai K1 for MIDI?

Any Kawai K1 users left? I've had one for years but only used it as a stand alone instrument for live peformance.

Now I'm getting into MIDI and I'm absolutely baffled by the manual. I want to know how to assign 8 channels to play Powertracks output?

And I guess there's software out there could it for me.

Hello Matthew, I've had my K1 for almost 10 years now. You should check out Kawai's site, they have a step by step process for setting up a patch for sequencing that you can print or download. I also use PowerTracks, but you should know that the K1 is very limited as it is only 8 polyphony. Anyway, here's their website http://www.kawaius.com/k1multi.htm . They also have more patches for the K1 that you can download for free.

Much sucess to ya,

Earline

printing compositions

I am a 13 year old classical composer. I just want to be able to print out my compositions so that other people can read them without having to spend all day getting things really neat on manuscript paper. Could you tell me what shareware programmes I can download to do this on a macG3 please.

Thankyou

There are not many shareware/demo notation programs that allow printing or even saving.
If you haven't already, you may want to have a peek at our <a href="/smm/mac/Miscellaneous/Notation/">Notation Category for Macintosh.</a> Among others you will find a program called <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/finale_mac/">Finale 98</a> which is probably your best chance, although there may even be restrictions on printing capabilities.

Good luck

Vegas Pro, Sound Forge, Gigasampler, Acid Pro, Fruity Loops etc.

Hi guys!

I see there are a lot of things going on with audio software here. I am an audio enineer :) and use that stuff a lot - sound forge, wavelab, all sorts of sequencers. So if you have any questions or queries, feel free to email me, I am open for discussion any time and I would like to establish some contacts.

Hope to hear from you soon

Re: Vegas Pro, Sound Forge, Gigasampler, Acid Pro, Fruity Loops

Hello,

I am putting together my own editing system, planning to go with Adobe Premiere 6.0, and I am wondering what is the best and most compatable Audio/Music software for voice overs, sound effects, music scoring, and general audio?

Thanks,

Chris

JJ,
As a used to be recording engineer I have recently tried MAGIX products. Have you? Do you like them? REason: have an "administrator" that always needs proof of value
(though he knows nothing of sound programs) and need support to "sell" it to him.

Re: Vegas Pro, Sound Forge, Gigasampler, Acid Pro, Fruity Loops

That such, my name is Hernan Mendez I am from Argentina, I am sonidista, and I also want to mount myself a recording study, for this reason I am looking for some program efficient Multitrack.
I was looking for the WEB, I found COOL EDIT versions pays PRO 1. 2 or FAT ROCK STUDIO 0. 2, me serious very useful that me rocomiendes some or without commitment if you have some interesting program you could reach some agreement.
Thanks.

Hello there,

I'm going to be making my own PC studio within the next 6 months. I will be buying an all SCSI PC with a PIII 450 probably. I want to use CubaseVST 24, but I need to get a sound card that can has 24 bit AD DA with balanced ins. Maybe with around 4 in and 8 outs. The Motu 1224 looks great, but it doesn't have any on board effects. The Core 2 by Lexicon is very appealing to me (especially it's price), but it only has unbalanced ins. Is this only a consumer grade card, or can it be used for good quality (studio) recording? Is it really nessisary that I have balanced ins? This card has been looking really attractive for it's features and price. I don't think I want to go with the Core32, even though it looks good. I have also looked at the Yamaha DSP Factory, but the more I study it, I'm shying away (though I like the on board effects and the "virtual" mixer). I also thought about the Layla, but it is only 20 bit. Is there any other cards that are going to give me what I want? Sorry I haven't looked into it, but how is the Gadgit Labs wave/824? Midi is also a plus, but I can always get another adapter for that (midiman USB interface maybe). This is getting long, but I also do a lot of composing with Finale and I hate most of the sound cards that are out there and I need something that is going to give me great orchestral and other sounds. Do you think I should go with the Gigasampler or some other hard disk sampler or should I go with an external unit? There seems to be lots of CDs out there with good sampled sounds, thats why I think I want to go this route. I am not sure how this would work with Cubase though. I do have a SoundBlaster Live! card, but I have heard that it can cause problems with this setup, and I think I want to upgrade to something that isn't so consumer level. I should mention that I will be using a midi guitar with this setup too, but this makes me want to get a sound modual/sampler that is portable so I can use it at gigs and practices.
I basically know what I want to get for everything else, it's just finding the right soundcards for the duty. Sorry again for having you have to read through all this. I have been slowing researching this for the last 2 months and need some other opinions. I hope I have supplied you with enough info.
Thanks again, Jon

LP ripping, denoising and transfer toCD

I tried downloading some of the software you list with GoZill. It shows me a screen that the file is in html,. When I ask it to download I get a 2K file that is worthless.
1. How can I download files from your sites successfully
2. Suggest software, preferably freeware to rip, remove noise from and record LPs as CD

A Cakewalk or Direct X Plug-ins for removing Tape/low end Audio

I'm Upgrading to a computer from a 4-track studio, but I'd like to save some of the recordings I've made on tape. When I pull them down, I get a substantial tape hiss-I can remove it by pulling off the high end, but I lose more up there than I'd like to sacrifice-is there a plug-in that would do this with greater quality?
(I'm using Cakewalk 8 on a pII 450, I have a soound blaster 128-but will soon be upping to a studio card.)

CD player and MP3 files

Can a regular Compact Disk player (walkman, whatever you want to call it) use mp3 files? Any responses will be very appreciated...

No, cd players only play standard audio. But you can now buy mp3 walkmans that can hold half an hour or so worth of mp3 songs. But theres no disc involved.

Converting MIDI to musical score

Hi all,

Is there a program which converts MIDI files into sheet music?

Re: Converting MIDI to musical score

I gather that the following programs convert midi to music scores:

Allegro, Ballade , Band-in-a-Box, Cakewalk series, capella, Concertware, Cubase, Digital Orchestrator Plus, Dynaware, Encore, Evolution Gold, Finale, MasterTrax Pro, Midisoft Studio, Musicator, MusicTime, Personal Composer, Power Chords Pro, Powertracks Pro, Quickscore, Recording Session, Rhapsody, WinJammer, WinJammer Pro

"Finale" recommended at:
www.codamusic.com

Re: Converting MIDI to musical score

Thanks!

Re: Converting MIDI to musical score

There's a good shareware program for beginners. Melody Assistant 3.4. Available on Mac and PC. For the $15 (now $18) shareware fee, it's a good introduction to computer notation and manipulating midi files. It's input (writing notes to staff) is better than PowerTracks Pro, for example. The user manual is a bit unusual - you get a lesson in theory as well (the program writers are French) but it's a helluva lot easier to under than anything written by PG Music (Powertracks Pro, Band in a Box).

Unless you're a tech head or familiar with the old DOS system stay away from Powertracks until you've tried something simpler and more user friendly like Melody (or Harmony the dearer option [$68]. I've dabbled in Finale and it certainly is good but if you're an amateur it's hard to walk away from a $15 program versus a $500 one.

ps. Or get a program that your friends use so you can collaborate.
