Sequencer for Guillemot Home Studio
Hello,
Is there any affordable or free seqencer software which supports the DSP and the digital daughter board of the Guillemot Home Studio Pro 64? It should be a real 32-bit program, not unstable 16-bit stuff like the bundled Quartz Audiomaster.
Any hints are appreciated. Please reply by Email to jb@sunlight.de.
Thanks,
Joerg
how do I convert .wav's so that I can burn the tracks
I need to know how to convert .wav files so that I can burn them on to a cd-r using my cd-burner, so that my cd-player can read them. can any body help me or does everybody have the same problem? thanks
HEY!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOLD ON THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
STOP!!!!!
You don't need to convert a wave to mp3 as the other poster suggested. I mean, all he is doing is taking a wav file, encoding it into mp3 format, then decoding back to wav, then burning.
Wav format is the PC platform format of choice for burning an audio cd. Get yerself a copy of ADAPTEC EASY CD CREATOR. In the software, you simply select the wav files you want burnt, and the software makes the cd for you..
If you want to burn mp3 filez for use on a home stereo cd player you first have to CONVERT them FROM MP3 back into WAV format, then burn em. NOT the other way around.

Well Mitch - I'm new to the game too!
I have found this way works fine for me and produces great quality results as it is all digital. (some people use a mic against the speakers and all that lark!!!???!!)
Anyway I downloaded MusicMatch Jukebox from -
http://209.67.123.215/distributors/999990015/mmsetup.exe. This is a player, ripper, converter etc 'all-in-one'. Then goto 'file' - 'convert' then choose the.wav and click 'start'. It'll convert it to MP3.
Then download a program from - ftp://ftp.funet.fi/mirrors/ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/win95/mmedia/acd11b.zip
(You'll need WinZip from www.winzip.com)
This records MP3's to audio CD format.
Please E-Mail me if you have any probs at all or the links don't work etc. Thanks.
Re: how do I convert records to mp3's???

mac cd burning software other than toast
Hi, I am a dj and burn mixes from minidisc to cd via our
mac g3, however when I trackmark, ie:split the file into
separate sections and then burn it onto cd, I choose a
buffer of 0 secs, but toast always puts a split second
gap between the tracks, so trying to burn a trackmarked
mix that is continuous is impossible using toast, can
someone please help and let me know what other software
I can use, preferably shareware or something because I am
not in a position to buy a $300 burning package.
Re: mac cd burning software other than toast
Ahead Software has a new version of NeroMAX.
Also, Toast (or anything Roxio) is retarded.

Getting from 33 1/3 to CD-R. (Mac)
I've just bought a CD-R and would like to transfer a valued stock of old 33 1/3 and 45 rpm. discs to CD. How do I do this? Specifically, how do I get from the analog audio record output to a digital audio file in the Mac?
Re: Getting from 33 1/3 to CD-R. (Mac)
You will need a Power Macintosh or AV 680x0 Mac for this, because earlier macs don't have 16 bit audio.
Buy a cable that connects the 2 RCA sockets on the back of your preamp (you shouldn't just connect your turntable to the mac, turntables need preamplification) to a stereo plug that fits into the mac's microphone socket.
Download Ultra Recorder 2.4.1, this will allow you to record the records to AIFF files (this is definately worth the US$20 shareware fee!)
Use Adaptec Toast to burn the resultant files to Audio CD format.

Dennis,
I neither do know MacAmp, nor do I know anything special
about the Mac itself - but why not try to get this stuffit expander?
Do a web search for it or look in shareware archives.

Akai S2000/Adaptec 2906 SCSI/B+W G3 400 problems!!
Hi there, I use a Adaptec 2906 SCSI card in my G3/400mhz & have 192 megs of ram loaded with Adaptecs latest drivers.
Hooked up to that I use an Akai S2000 midi stereo digital sampler using the MESA II adudio program that came with it plus the latest version of OMS which I believe is 2.3.7. and
Opcode midiport 32 usb! Every time I use Mesa II in scsi mode it freezes the application soon as I start to use the "control" window rendering it useless.
The same setup on my 7500 works just fine! I have done all kinds of testing and have come
to the conclusion that it is the SCSI card that is at fault! For some reason or another the
information passing thru gets confused and then proceeds to hang the application...
Please help if you can, I no longer have the 7500 (sold it to upgrade to new G3/400) and
cannot enjoy using my Akai S2000.
Any helpfull insight is much appreciated...

I NEED A GOOD KEYBOARD FOR HIP HOP!!!!!!!!!!!
I would love any info on which keyboard/s would be ideal for producing hip-hop. Should I get a sampling keyboard!!!
Thanks for your response!!!!!!!1
JAM
BTW
Sorry (hehe)
If you are looking exclusively at good boards with good sounds,
YAMAHA CS2X (cheap and funky)
YAMAHA EX5 EX5R or EX7 (more costly but more fun)
QUASIMIDI RAVEN (totally phat electronic soundz, but few Real instrument sounds)
QUASIMIDI SIRIUS (twisted toy wif absolutely bizzare effects capabilities and $$$)
ROLAND JX305 (same soundz as the MC505 but with more natural soundz- and an actual keyboard)
VIRUS KB- (excellent funk toy)
You have the URLS for YAMAHA and ROLAND
Quasimidi- WWW.quasimidi.com
VIRUS- www.access-music.de
I added this post cuz all of the aforementioned stuff are acutal KEYBOARDS, vs the previous post which included groove, midi boxes, and samplers.
:-D
Dependz how yer writin it
Big decisions to be made!!
I definitely aggree with RubyLee. If yer inta hiphop, a sampler is a total must have. I would suggest a stand alone sampler and a good board versus trying to find a single keyboard that meets all yer needs.
Some cool stuff ta check out:
YAMAHA:
RM1X sequencer remixer:
654 normal voices and 46 drum kits
50 preset styles 960 preset patterns, 7726 preset phrases.
Real time play effects including harmonize, Beat stretch, closck shift, gate time and velocity offset
3 on board effects processors
16 track sequencer
(THIS IS A MIDI Device, not a sampler!)
YAMAHA SU700 LOOP FACTORY (sampler)
16 bit Phrase sampler 64note polyphony
40 tracks digital Audio Remix Automation
Syncs Audio loops to Midi
4megs ram, expandable to 68 via SIMMS
www.yamaha.co.uk
ROLAND:
MC-505 Groove Box
SP-808 Sampler
DJ 2000 mixer (ROCKS FOR EFFECTS AND SYNTH!)
www.rolandus.com
I would check out gettin a copy of Sonic Foundry Acid too, EXCELLENT software with CRAZY beat synchin capabilities that will run from any 16 bit soundcard.
Check out a copy of Sound on Sound (BRIT MAG) or Electronic Musician or somethin like that to get an idea of whats new and whats out there.
Bottom line, if yer gonna write your own scores from MIDI Get a really decent Board with a good drum setup, phat bass's and decent leads. But a sampler is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL for HIPHOP!
Hope I helped a bit!

live audio editing (neophyte)
I am going to be purchasing Mac Power PC as the primary workhorse for a project of mine. The project will be recording some of Schubert's song cycles on a sony mini-disc and transfering this onto a computer in order to edit it for the production of a CD. Can someone recommend suitable software for this purpose?

MP3 vs MP4?
I was just wondering whether anyone could tell me what the difference is between MP3 and MP4 formats? What is the preference for one over the other?
Re: MP3 vs MP4?
: I was just wondering whether anyone could tell me what the difference is between MP3 and MP4 formats? What is the preference for one over the other?
Re: MP3 vs MP4?
There are many difference between the the MP3 and MP4 audio formats, but right now I'll only list the main ones. The MP3 audio formats is the most common format for Windows 98 and up users. The reason being is because MP3 has the convenient ID3 tags, which allows the song file its self to carry the information about the author, album, date, track number etc. It is also free to encode/convert. But you asked about the differences between MP3 and MP4 so I won't ramble about the details of MP3. The main differences are that MP4 is MPEG-4 versus MPEG-1 Layer 3. Therefor the higher the MPEG base, the the better it can endure quality at a lower bitrate. You could have an MP3 at 192kbps constant bit-rate, then encode it to an MP4 audio file at 64kbps constant bit-rate and still maintane the majority of the quality. The problem is that the MP4 audio is not widely supported. to play it you can download Apple's Quicktime and copy the codecs to the Windows Media Player folder, or just play it with Quicktime. Windows will still the .MP4 extention as a movie though.
Re: MP3 vs MP4?
do u know where i can access an MP4 player (decoder ) for my PC. for free. thanks mate really apreciate it mate cya

PLEASE HELP with WAV Recording!!
I'm trying to record WAV files into my computer so I can later dub them onto a CDR.
Unfortunately all I have is Sound Recorder and it doesnt record for more than 60 seconds!
Can someone recommend a shareware program that would do this? And what would be the easiest way to go about doing this whole process? I'm new to converting sound files, compression, etc., so ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
