Must convert trk to wav
Anybody know how to do this? I've been searching like crazy and can't find anything.
Re: Must convert trk to wav
What is a trk file anyho? What program makes this file?

Re: Must convert trk to wav
Steinburg's Recycle has the capability to convert WAV to TRK, but I am having alot of frustration with it. I can't figure out the whole bars and beats system. I downloaded the program when I found out there is a laggy silence in my wav loops when I try to use them in Mix-Man (odd... they played flawless in Cool Edit when I was making them) I wish someone out there could just make a simple program that would convert the WAV to TRK and not make me learn all this complicated measures and beats and crap.
If only DMC-Powerabp made such a prog.

.trk file is made by a mixing/editing (audio) software called MIXMAN
U can download the demo version from the net...
i think, as far as i know... .trk file can only converted with mixman... perhaps it has an option to give the output in WAV format.
Well, i myself tried and find sumthin... but no luck dude...
so juzz make sum music, listen to it and have fun....

A TRK file is a special (proprietary) format used by the DM2 that contains a sound or sequence of sounds. This file cannot be played in software other than the Mixman DM2

Yeah, you need a player like Winamp and especially the "TFMX" plugin. Once you got that included in your Winamp player, open the MDAT files with that player (the SMPL files won't play but are somehow necessary in order to play the MDAT files).
Re: Playing Mods
Download Winamp 2 at:
http://download.nullsoft.com/winamp/client/winamp281_full.exe
Install Winamp 2!
Then download this plugin:
http://www.mds.mdh.se/~dat95pln/tfmxplug.zip
now open the zip and copy all files in the PLUGINS folder in your Winamp folder.
So you can now play mdat files in Winamp!

Do you want also play some Amiga Games on your PC??? Like Turrican or Alien Breed etc. ??? Download WinUAE at:
www.WinUAE.net
The official Amige Emulator!!!
You can get Amiga games at www.Back2roots.org

Definately the most unusual program I've heard of in a while. Very interesting timing as well. Although I choose not to associate with religions anymore, I like the idea of pleasant daily reminders of good things.
I'll bet some publisher with Border's Bookstore would find amusement in this kind of thing. They are always selling cute little pleasant reminder books and CD's up near the cash registers.
Still, I think the most peaceful kinds of prayers do not involve computers, money, machines, or clocks. It can be nice just to go to a park and feel the sunlight, hear birds and insects, see plants and trees.
It's also a good place to get ideas for music.
But everyone has their own style and I'm thankful for the variety. There's also something really nice and refreshing about a programmer who is kind enough to aspire to put good spirit into a program designed to enrich life. So much other kinds of software make life much more disturbing.
Thanks for sharing with us.

Re: How to post music files....
You'll need to find out how to stream the MP3 file. I'm sure there's a way to do it. Personally, I use Real Audio to do my streaming. Yoyr question is pretty good. I'll look into it for my own education. If i find out more I'll post here.

An Open Letter To Moby...
Dear Moby, I really feel bad that Emma Nem. want's to kill you. Emma is a really disturbed kid. His momma stopped breastfeeding him at an early age, and now he's back for blood. He will hurt anyone he can with his harmful words. Everyone except Elton John, that is. Well, it just goes to show you that everything IS wrong. Hey, Mr. Moby, I like to score too! But I digress.
Maybe Emma is mad at you 'cause the time you did that christian rap on the Recoil CD. Did you ever stop to think about that? Hmm? Nobodoy has beat 1000BPM yet, though, so I forgive you. When are we gonna get the next E like you promised?
Well, I guess I'm pretty picky, Mr. Moby, but ever since you remixed Michael Jackson's "Beat It", I've held you to a higher standard. You have Austin Powers teeth, but i admire that you aren't self-conscious about them when you stick your face in the camera on your MTV show.
?Se habla espanol? Well, I gotta go. Good luck with Bowie. You have a lot of courage to work with a musician like him. He steals babies, you know. I gotta go now. I'm due for a hot date with Fiona Apple __________. She says my whiney voice and sullen demeanor makes her weak in the knees for me.
Sincerely,

MAC USER ALERT == How to run big audio programs on MacOS 8.1 on
I have made some significant improvements to my MacOS 8.1 PPC that I thought I should share with other people who might also be running an older MacOS system.
All of these tricks use simple techniques which are likely to be stable but can be easily reversed if needed. The basic requirements for use are a PowerPC Mac not currently being subjected to any cruel or unusual sytem or application software.
If you can, create a 515 MB partition on your hard drive, and rename it "Virtual RAM" or something like that. Using the Memory control panel, (or Get Info, in MacOS 9+) set up 512 MB Virtual Memory to reside on this partition. If you have a spare hard drive, you could use this too. It works even better if you reformat or at least defragment this volume first.
Use freeware DiskCharmer to format MacOS Standard format volumes. Extended Format (HFS+, or HFS plus) could potentially slow down any disk-intensive audio programs, as it is a form of disk compression. DiskCharmer formats disks with a little bit more space without using disk compression. It just leave out uneeded files (Trash folder, Temporary Items, Desktop Folder, catalog files etc [Many of these were added to MacOS at system 7, but aren't needed for basic MacOS volume access])
It's also a good idea to update all your hard disk drives with newer drivers. <b>Drive Setup 8.5.1</b> is a nice one that works for old and new drives, and fixes some old errors. You don't need to reformat a drive to update it's hardware drivers.
Drive Setup 8.5.1 (and Disk First Aid 8.6) can be extracted using freeware <b>Tome Viewer</b>. Tome viewer lets you line-item decompress apple Tome archives without decompressing the whole thing... just take what you need. I did this to get what I needed from the MacOS 8.5.1 Update without actually upgrading to MacOS 8.5.1--I just extracted from the Tome files what I needed. You can use this on any MacOS Tome.
OK
Then, I basically installed the following extensions in my active system folder:
<b>Not Virtual!</b> = lets you use up to 512MB Virtual RAM with fewer errors, and programs just think Virtual RAM is turned off. Very nice way around Logic's RAM barrier--lets you test run memory-hogging programs.
<b>CPU Charger</b> = makes the CPU run more efficiently, and speeds up everything. Very nice enhancement--startup process is faster too.
<b>FinderRAM</b> = this is an older control panel, but it does no harm to the current MacOS's. It's a way to control how much RAM the Finder has. Be sure to keep this file unlocked so it saves your changes, and never set it to anything lower than about 8080 KB. I have found that 12000 KB is a nice low number that doesn't cause Finder Errors but is a little lower than what Apple gives the Finder.
<b>Mac OS Purge</b> = a tiny application that just compresses the system RAM, so that you have more space to run programs. This is great for all MacOS's, even sytem 7. It doesn't always give back that much RAM, but I'll take what I can get. It's best to run this program right after startup finishes for best results, but you can run it at anytime and a graph of the results will show up.
<b>WriteThrough</b> = This program I only added recently, because I wasn't sure if it's result would be positive, but it's turned out to be a godsend. It's also freeware like the rest, and was also found at the <A HREF="http://hyperarchive.lcs.mit.edu/HyperArchive.html">MIT Info-Mac Archives page</A>. WriteThrough flushes the disk cache more often so that disk cache errors don't have enough time to accumulate. With MacOS cache setting (in Memory Control Panel) at a minimum of 256K and no more than 512K, you will be have the advantages of disk caching (speedier folders/windows/directory) without getting tons and tons of volume, block, bundle bit, catalog, and directory errors.
Speaking of bundle bits, a good way to know if an application is dangerous or not is to check if it has a bundle resource (ResEdit code 'BNDL'). All modern applications have a bundle resource so that they can have a set of icons and filetypes for themselves and the files that they open or modify/save. If an application does'nt have a 'BNDL' (bundle) resource, then it could be trouble. It's less important for control panels to have bundles, but many do as well. If you have a program that can set turn the bundle bit flag on, then you should to that to all of your applications. The one's that don't have a bundle will show up when your finder Icons get screwey. Naturally, the way to fix screwey finder icons is to delete the desktop database files and force the finder to rebuild them at startup. Rebuilding the desktop from scratch can actually speed up your system too, because it gets rid of loaded BNDL (bundle) and FREF (file reference) resources which aren't in use.
I'm not advocating that you get too deeply into this kind of thing, but it's safe to download freeware
<b>Trash Desktop</b> for fixing desktop errors more efficiently and easily than tools such as TechTool (which can corrupt your desktop).
Last but not least, freeware control panel <b>"Zap"</b> lets you reset your troublesome PRAM without needing to reboot. After you reset your PRAM, be sure to turn off AppleShare in your chooser control panel, check your General Control Panel settings, keyboard, mouse, and sound settings. Resetting the PRAM (Zapping the PRAM) sets you computer up to a few default settings, so it's important to put them back where you need them. Resetting the PRAM is often recommended to do if you've tried everything else to get your computer to work normally and it's still acting quirky. If you have to re-register software after you reset your PRAM, that could be an indication of which program is possibly messing with your PRAM behind your back.
Oh... and some other speed enhancers:
Any tools which turn off or speed up window zooming will make your mac faster. Also, any control panels which speed up or amplify your mouse settings. I have two such programs, but I forget what they are called at the moment.
In closing, I'd like to say that one should avoid becoming too attached to the Finder. While the Finder is the baseline application for all MacOS's, it's by no means necessary. In fact, I find the Finder to be the worst aspect of every MacOS release since system 6.5.5.
Once you are up and running your favorite audio programs, there's no reason to keep running the Finder. It's just taking up 4 MB to 24 MB of RAM that you could use in your audio program(s). So, download any freeware application killer such as <b>AppWatcher</b and the finder will quit safely and quietly at the click of a button. <b>Antifinder</b> is another good solution for those running MacOS 9. On my Mac, I have installed <b>DiskTop</b> INSIDE of AppWatcher, so that after I quit the finder, I can still manage my files but with much more RAM available. In order to accomplish this, I used <b>FONT/DA MOVER</b> leftover from my System 6.5.5 disks!!!!! It still works, and it works FINE.
Well, this has been a very technically involved posting, but I these are the kinds of <b>HACKS</b> that make computing more smooth. At least they did for me.
Since I implemented this approach, Norton Utilities no longer reveals tons and tons of drive errors, and my programs hardly ever crash. Right about now, the only things which crash my Mac are graphics programs and when I try to get too tricky with running RAM disks off of RAM disks off of Virtual RAM, and protected memory stuff like that (hint: RamBunctious™ rocks!!!)
Happy computing gators.

MAC USER ALERT part II: Use ''AV SpeedUp'' ALSO, AIFF/WAVE file
Wow, I can't believe it. In that last post, I actually forgot to mention possibly the most important extention to add: <b>AV SpeedUp</b>. This extension does just that; it speeds up audio/visual disk-intensive activity. It accomplishes this (as I understand it), but optimizing (on older MacOS's) some read/write & buffer routines. Of particular interest to people like us, is the fact that system calls to play sounds are optimized by AV SpeedUp so that unneeded disk writing/reading is avoided. Apparently this extension fixes a really old MacOS bug, that the Apple people dealt with by trying the Microsoft approach (they ignored the problem and reincorporated it into future OS versions).
I am getting this information from the documentation that came with AV SpeedUp. No, I am not a programmer (but I did once try to read Inside Mac).
By the way... for any of you using AIFF programs that choke on certain AIFF's, I just read recently a section in Apple Inside Mac about AIFF file structures. Apparently it explicitly tells programmers to keep the resource fork of AIFF's blank. This means that any program that stores resources of any kind in an AIFF's resource fork (instead of just the data fork) is violating the AIFF file format standards. Therefore, if you have to the tools to notice which programs do this, will you know the source of your unreadable AIFF problems (hopefully). I have noticed this issue when trying to deal with AIFF's between SoundSculptor, SonicWORX, Sound Studio, SoundApp, and SoundHack. I forget which programs are technically breaking the rules. They are all great programs, but SoundHack has been the most reliable about creating standard format files of types WAVE, AIFF, & Sound Designer. SoundHack can also turn any kind of file into a sound file by hacking the header info, so it's a win-win situation to use SoundHack.
On the PC, WAVE files are less standardized that AIFF files, so this kind of problem is rampant. I forget which program it is that turns mucked up WAVE files into normal, basic, WAVE files. However, I do recall that Microsoft products and Sonic Foundry products add way too much information into WAVE files. SoundForge XP, for example, stores no less than some 30 fields of extra data. Sure, if you need digital copyright watermarking this could be useful, but I just see it as a violation of my privacy to have sensitive configuration information or personal information put into every sound that create. I want a sound just to contain audio information and that's all.
The exception, of course, is when I am running <b>Coagula</b> or <b>BMP2WAV.EXE</A> (Bitmap to WAVE).
Well, one of these days I'm gonna disappear again from this site, you appreciate this info while you can.
p.s. = 16 bit resolution has been standardized, but 32 bit resolution varies from program to program. This is why 96K / 24 bits is still more popular than 96K / 32 bits. It's not that 32bits isn't possible, it's that people keep messing up the paradigm.
If you'd like to test this theory of mine, try importing/exporting 32 bit files between CoolEdit, DDClip, WaveLab, and AnalogX Autotune. You will see that it won't work. By the way, Cubase incarnations can't deal with all bit resolutions either. Even if you can load up a 20 bit file in Cubasis VST, you probably won't hear anything when you try to play it.

This is a well known scam and how and why it works for the people that position themselves at the right point is well documented. It's the internet's most well known scam of all therefore your just misleading people.
If people reading this haven't tried it then waste your money if you wish but the above WILL NOT happen for you.

Re: Scam it is...
It's a shame you are so negative about this, it really has worked for me. It just takes a positive attitude and a little faith in people.
Re: Scam it is...
Actually.. this really works. You probably do it and dont want people getting rich. Because I have made money doing this.
Re: Scam it is...
Then tell me how 100 people that put in $10 (total $1000) can all get back from that fund (and lets face it, there isn't any money coming from anywhere else) can all get thousands of bucks.
Minor level mathematicians can work it out and avoid getting stiffed. The rest of them pay loads of money to the people that post these messages.
Lock 'em up..
Re: Scam it is...
I have tried it twice over time. Both times no money. Further to that, I know a lot of people that have tried it and all claim they got nothing.
If you read up on it, you'll see that it can work for some people at a certain stage of the proceedings but fizzles out by the time that most of the people would be a few steps off recieving anything.
Do the maths and don't accuse me of trying to talk people out of it from being a closet capitalist. If everyone gives £10 and expects hundreds of pounds back then where does all the money come from...?

If you MUST use Windows, at least be dignified enough to run TUA
Yes, I am a broken record. Still, you will be rewarded for listening to me. Tuareg II has quietly been released. This is my all time favorite PC program, and it's only gotten better. It now supports VST plug-ins and has a slew of modular freeware add-ons. It's only a matter of time before this wonderful program gets another facelift and starts scratching at your front door.
Tuareg is not perfect, but it's style and simplicity is something worth noting. Also, the guy that's been working on this is quite dedicated, and he listens to users for input on new versions.
There's not a bad apple at <A HREF="http://brambos.com">Brambos</A>.
I am using a Mac these days, and my PC is running Linux and FreeDOS, but in a few months, when PC prices plummet drastically yet again, I will probably retrofit another 20 dollar PC with (*ACK*) a hacked Windows version (that I saved on CD-ROM before I sold my last PC) just so I can start running Tuareg and DDClip and HOG and EVPMaker and rot like that.
Well, consider this a plug.
Tuareg is great stuff!
Yes, the Tuareg is quite useful. I use it regularly for it's randomizer (16 slices, fully flexable) and it's distortion filter (an UNGODLY distortion to be sure!) and I think that used in conjunction with other .wav editing programs it is a nice compliment to a digital recording suite.
There is, however, nothing wrong with PCs. Once upon a time Mac was the king of audio/video, now it makes no difference. Just be sure it's not Dell. ;)
Thanks for the shout-out!

How to play MP3 slowly,
hi,
How can I play MP3 slowly or quickly ?
Can I convert the normal MP3 into a slower version?
thx in advance.

Re: How to play MP3 slowly,
There are two was. One changes the speed of the playback but changes the pitch as well. The other changes the speed but retains the pitch of the tune, which is very clever stuff.
If you are looking to do the latter, then you should be looking for a "Time Stretching" program which are usually resident in audio editors and some stand along programs like Amazing Slow Downer..

I greatly appreciate for your response.
