Hi Folks,

I would like to seek your opinion on a new pop-up ad
that would run for 30 days...

As you remember we got rid of the pop-up ads a couple
of months back as they were very intrusive, this one
isn't.

It is a very cleverly done video clip using Flash for
a rock band to promote their new song and up-coming
tour.

I can't tell you who it is or show you the video clip
yet, but I've seen it and I quite like it.

The pop-up takes up about a third of the screen on smaller
screens - less on bigger ones - and can be killed instantly,
or you can stop the audio and just watch the pictures.

It will only be shown a maximum of once during a visit
provided you accept session cookies as most people do, and
will not be shown to Hitsquad members.

We could really do with the extra cash so please give
me your thoughts - remember this site costs a heck of
a lot to run.

Please post replies quickly as we need to give an answer
tomorrow.

Sorry Jason but I seem to have missed this. I haven't actually noticed the pop up so maybe it's a timing thing. If it popped up once during the site visit then it would be rude to complain about it's presence...

Hi Rimmer,

The pop-up isn't running yet - I wanted to get opinions
before we ran it.

And YES - it will definitely only come up once, not
with every pageview like those ones we had a couple of
months ago.

Looping software for Mac

I use Acid DJ as a music creation tool in my music classroom - I have 4 PC's - is there anything similar for the Mac? I have 4 iMacs to use as well as the PC's and I would like to have a looping program for those as well. Anyone know of anything I could try?

Abletons Live comes to mind. There is a demo. Trancer was another one although I think it got some slating from the press. Worth a go possibly...

Live has had a lot of good press and runs in OSX as well.

While watching the movie "Coyote Ugly", the actress playing Violet ('Jersey') goes looking for computers to help her with her music. The sales clerk suggests 'The Best? HitMaster Pro 3.1 (Mac) which enabled her to lay vocal tracts, edit and master CD's for promotional use. Does this software actually exist or is it a hollywood fluke?

i had watched the clip from coyote ugly, and did infact try to look for the software on the internet! does it really exist or is it really fake! if it is fake, is there anything similar to it, which can save songs etc!! 10x

Trouble opening setup file

I keep trying to download some of your drum machine software. When I’m finished downloading and I try to open the files, a message pops up that says "no application is specified for the file"? What’s the problem? Please respond.

You haven't specified what file extension is on the file(s).

It might be compressed with the likes of Winzip....and might have a file extension of .ZIP ?

If that is the case you need to download WINZIP from the net and then try to uncompress or extract the program from the archive...

Fruity Loops + FM7 and Absynth

When i load FM7 into fruity loops via the fruity wrapper everything loads ok and i can
hear sounds when i hit a note on the attached keyboard.. but when i try to trigger sounds
with my midi keyboard or FL internal sequencer i get no sound. As for absynth, i cant get
any of the sound banks to load in fruity loops, they will load into the external synth
program, but not in fruitry loops.. please help

is ther any drum machines that you can use a midi keyboard with

what are the names of the 3 cds? there's the program disc, orkester, and sound bank.

I've burned it with the volume label "Sound Bank", tried adding the hidden files, tried using different burning programs, all to no avail...anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions?

My hair is gone too. Orkester works fine but the third disk, Factory Sound Bank, doesn't work no matter what I do. I tried the one I used with 1.0 which worked fine, nothing. I downloaded the file again and still nothing. If you have any luck please let me know. jnovindodhot@hotmail.com. I'll post any luck I have.

First there's Hammerhead ofcourse. A simple yet
powerful freeware drummachine.

Then you could also try "Tu2" which is from the same
guy. More complex, but it also does way more funky
sh!t! I recommend it.

And ofcourse you could also try Fruityloops, but that
one isn't freeware.

I loaded songs off of a cd onto my computer. But I can't burn those songs because they are wma's. Is there any way of changing these to mp3's or wav's without re-loading them onto my computer?

There seems to be a lot of people importing with WMA. There are also a lot of people claiming that they are having problems with the resulting files. I suggest you use something that doesn't write copy write restrictions to the files and doesn't reported what you have on your HD to MS.

G4 + Delta 1010 + Logic Delta

I am using a G4 Macintosh and so far I think I am doing just fine, but I have a question regarding the amplification of the sound (or monitoring):

in the Macintosh software installation section, when it comes to set the sound in the computer to properly amplify the sound, it says (page 9) "if your music program does use ASIO, leave the Sound Manager driver set to "built in" for both Sound In and Sound Out". It also says later on to put a Delta 1010 Driver inside the Logic Delta Driver folder to make ASIO run in the program and in the Delta 1010.
Ok, the program I use (wich came in the Delta 1010 package set) is the Logic Delta, and IT DOES use ASIO, and if I do as the manual says, and reboot the computer, the sound of EVERYTHING, including the Midi Tutorial Songs included in the Logic program, comes out of the computer internal speackers.
Ok, so far the problem is fixed by connecting my pre-amplified Yamaha speackers in the computer, but the problem is: there's no section regarding a amplification of the sound through the computer (besides, I am affraid that using this method, I am not using only the high quality Delta 1010 sound card, but the internal Sound card somehow connected to the Delta 1010 card, wich I fear would decrease the whole sound quality). Plus, I have been told (and the Delta manual says so) that the aplification should go plugging a sound system (in this case, my two Yamaha pre-amplified speackers) in the first two 8x8 analog out connectors. If I do so, the result is the absence of sound, even if in the Delta Control Panel Sound Manager I/O I choose the Analog 1&2 Output channels. I realized later on that to make it sound through the first two output channels of the Delta, I have to take the Delta 1010 driver out of the Logic Delta Drivers Folder, but the result of that is a terrific sound quality for audio, but a very bad quality of sound for MIDI throgh the Logic Delta program.

My resumed question is: What should I do? Leave the speackers sound through the computer or change it the other way and make some adjustements so it will sound ok?

I got the general grasp of what you are saying but got confused with your use of Logic Delta.

If you look in the Hardware/Drivers menu from the top Mac menu whilst running Logic, then you should see how you have Logic setup to work with sound manager (MacAV) and the ASIO driver. Generally, you would just have the ASIO driver selected. Try selecting it if it isn't and then reboot Logic.

As far as the Mac's system sound, some audio card drivers let you send the normal Mac noises out of the audio card and some don't. My Korg1212 card does but I generally have an audio output from the normal Mac output into the amp and then another one out of the Korg1212 far better quality outputs to the Amp. I just press the button on the amp for which output I want.

I recorded a substantial part of my CD collection onto my hard drive using Windows Media Player 7.

Due to PC problems, I had to re-install my Windows OS and now find that I can't play back these files. I have requested a new license from Microsoft for download but it appears the only way to play these files is to have the ORIGINAL license as it was when I recorded the tracks.

The files still won't work. Does anybody know a way round this problem (apart from re-recording the whole bloody lot), or better still, a media player which doesn't require the license factor ?

Apparently I can also lose the license by re-installing Windows, but am okay if I re-load the old license to my new re-install (hope that makes sense). MS do recommend the regular back up of your license to prevent the non-playing of music files which are copyright encrypted when saved.

To answer your question - YES - they are .wma files - do you know of a good (preferably free) convertor to mp3 programme ?

Hi Rich,

The technical description for this situation is
"Sounds like you're buggered".

Once the files have been copy protected there is nothing
you can do - there is no software that can repair the
files because the Digital Millennium Copyright Act makes
that illegal.

Next time you record your CD's don't do it with copy
protection - record them using an open standard like
MP3.

I don't know many Windows programs i'm afraid. There are people here that do so post another thread or do a 'page' search on the main forum window for WMA. There should be something there. You probably need a batch convertor as well otherwise you will have to do them one by one.. sigh..

problems with my midi installation

I've bought a sound card (sound blaster live 5.1),
and i plug my midi cable in the serial port and plug with my dx7 syntheziser first generation;
I've bought a sequencer software big boss 2001;
i use windows xp home edition;
I 've got nothing with my dx7, i cannot make anything, and my keyboard isn't recogned, what can i do??
