when I plug mytape deck into puter and press playthe levels on the tape deck max out. Does anyone know what it could be. Its really shitting me.

The levels on the 'actual' tape deck relate to the amount of energy on the tape and have nothing to do with the computer connection UNLESS you are recording to it... As you said PRESS PLAY, I can only think that it has nothing to do with your computer. Unplug the lead and see if it changes, it play mode it wont.

Problem therefore = too higher level when originally recording the tape.

Windows Sound Recorder is the last program on Earth I'd use to record anything, as it's c**p.

Get hold of and decent freeware audio recorder, it'll do a lot better job. There are loads in the software section.

Lister referred to decent freeware sound recorders, but I can't find any.
I am a Grade 3 teacher and I want to use my computer to record my students as they read aloud but I haven't been able to find anything.
All I want is to be able to record a single voice through a microphone and save it to the hard drive.
Please let me know if there is a freeware program that does this. The Windows Sound Recorder would even work, but it has a time limit. Some of these little kids take 3 or 4 minutes to read short passages.

You can extend the windows sound recorder for what you need. What you need to do is open the recorder take out your microphone and hit record. After it records no sound for 60 seconds hit record again. That will extend the time up to a very long session. Then you will need to save that sound as a file on your harddrive. When you are ready to record the kids open that file put in the microphone and record over the file with no sound. when you are done just hit save as a different file name. then open the file with no sound again and start over.

I need help with my brand new logic installed on my pc...

I have a really bothering latency problem and I know it's very common, but how do I solve the problem so I don't have to hear what I am recording when I'm recording it?

I'm not using midi, only guitar and vocals thru a microphone...

Other than system and app cache settings (which can adjust latency issues) buying anew Audiocard can help tremendously. Consider cards like the AudioPhile 2496 from M-Audio for good latency times.

Zero latency monitoring is offered by some audio cards by listening to the audio from the audio card rather than the processed signal through the sound/audio card.

I think it's just a matter of turning down the fader volume. The fader volume doesn't adjust the audio level to tape. You could even select the output for the track recording to an unused audio output.

In the arrange window, you can select a track and then go to the little window on the left and drag the delay for that track up and down.. If you know what you latency is, then you could apply this to all the tracks that are delayed from the source tempo. If you are playing to a sound that is already recorded in Logic then you may listen back to the material and there is a delay.. Every track recorded whilst listening to the original source track will be out of time by the same amount... In the way, you could advance on the source track (the one your listening to whilst playing along) to match the other recorded tracks. I don't have a serious latency issue although I do use a click track (when possible) for the basis of the track timing.

I used to use Acid on my PC to "create" music and am looking for something similar for my Mac...but it's got to be free or very cheap. Please help. I can't find anything but the Reason demo that you can only use for twenty minutes. HELP!

Abletons Live is similar in some ways to Acid although it's hardly free. Some shareware is really quite good but you rarely get anything that powerful unless you pay for it.

Trancer is another although I read some bad reviews for it.

Check out the file are here as you might find something to pass the time whilst your saving for some real software

Have you approached any with a demo? Have you got a manager to promote your work? Have you tried any of the local clubs to see if they'll play some of your work?

If not, then you're going to find it difficult. A record company ain't going to sign you on the basis or your own opinion.

I am using a Yamaha PSR-225 keyboard and have a Sound Blaster Live audio card (running Win98 SE). Everything seems to be function properly--I can play and hear audio from my keyboard through my PC speakers while in Fruity Loops or Reason, et al--however either my sound card or the software isn't recognizing different instruments played by my keyboard (for example, what should be a violin on playback sounds exactly like every other instrument). If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this, or any idea what could be causing it, I would be greatly appreciative of any help you could offer.

REAL instrument sounds in MIDI tracks

using a real instrument to get it`s real sound.
Most midi type music I find sounds like a keyboard
or piano (in all tracks) I would appreciate some

Midi can't play real instruments. People play them and usually much better than designed midi tracks. Are you thinking that a midi track can somehow play say, a violin..?

Making music and singing should have nothing to do with aspiring to fame. Real musicians have a love for their music. Real songwriters don't consider anything other than the music.

The music industry is in a state or repair and is essentially on it's way out... Play the lottery to get rich... you have more chance than getting famous as a singer.. Sorry

You need a cable with a 3.5mm stereo jack plug at one end and two RCA phono plugs at the other. The jack plug goes into the LINE OUT on the sound card and the phonos connect to a spare input on your receiver (NOT the phono input), normally labelled AUX or something.
