I finally figured it out. It was the disks themselves. In fine print, it says the disks are for burning data and computer generated music, which means it's essentially a Sector 1 CD only which only burns other data and samples of music.

Goto preferences (press CTRL+P) then goto "setup", then "file types", click "select all", then in the right check "register types on winamp start" then in the left column go to "agent" there's a few options there just check "maintain file associations" , and better to leave unchecked the other things in both two menus. that's all, then just close winamp and restart. after it you can click on any supported file and it launches winamp. easy

1st. not "computor", must be "computer" :) okay jokin'. Be sure that you have a CD-Recorder in your system you can check it by reading the cd-rom drive, if a sign looks like "CD-RW" or "CD-Recorder" than you have it, you just need a CD Burner yourself, in general if you buy a new system with a cd-order, there's a bundle software with it, check for it, anyway you can try "ero Burning Rom" hmm URL is http://www.ahead.de so you can download a demo of Nero, and go ahead with it. You can use adobe's premiere (last release is 6.0) to import quicktime's MOV files and then you can export them into MPEG files (hmm may be you need panasonic mpeg exporter plug-in) or decode directly into AVI file,and can use any codecs installed in your system (i offer to use MS-MPG4 or DivX to take less space and high quality), but if need sth small you can try this:

...what you are saying relating to the 'Data CD' versus 'Audio CD' media?? If so then it's about the SCMS code that domestic CD players use. I have a Philips CDr880 I bought cheap some time ago purely because I didn't have a computer. I wouldn't buy one again although I do like the advantage of being able to burn audio playable CD's perfectly with proper Audio CD media, (there is a difference if used for audio).

I spoke to Philips about the machine when I had problems copying my own music on my own CD's and complained that I should have any restriction. The SCMS (serial copy management system, I think..) is not only a really weak attempt to stop people pirating music, but to take a % profit from every Audio CD sold.. (price difference is better now than it was). A Philips engineer told me that there are a couple of chip legs that can chopped to bypass the SCMS writing and checking although that was all I got. The best way though was to insert an Audio CD, wait for the machine to acknowledge the CD, and then pull the CD draw and swap the CD for a Data CD (nice and cheap..!). This works well for me but I don't know if you can do it with other machines other than the 880 and the 870 (I think)...

Do a search for the draw swapping cheat and you maybe in luck..!

btw.. I have done this for a number of years and the machine works well. It sound like the draw would become damaged although it appears that Philips designed the drawer motor to be switched off after the CD was in the machine... mysterious... ;0-
