Is there any tutorial that teach you how to use a spectrum analy

I have the Spectrum Analyzer Professional 2.1 .I'm new at the mastering thing an I don't have a clue on how to use this software.

Re: Is there any tutorial that teach you how to use a spectrum a

There is a very good basic tutorial on mastering I have been looking at (I know nothing about mastering either!) at www.izotope.com It's called "Mastering with Ozone - tools tips and techniques. This is based a lot on spectrum analysis!!!!! Go for it!!!!!! Good luck!!!!!!

Re: Is there any tutorial that teach you how to use a spectrum a

When you say "mastering", what exatly do you mean? From what I understand, SAP 2.1 is designed to analyse sounds using various methods, and as such won't be of much use for mastering recordings.

Acid Pro 3.0: error message missing

Does anyone know anything about this type of error or how to fix it? This error occurs when I try to open any of my old projects. I recently changed motherboards and I think that is part of the problem.

Re: Acid Pro 3.0: error message missing

I had the same problem. Try reinstalling your software this should do the trick. Sorry, for the late response.

AMT8 with Logic 4

Could someone please tell me how to use emagic's Logic & AMT8 to control different midi devices. I just need some brief description of how to setup and control the devices. Using a Win98 PC. Also if there is a website that can help me with this please let me know.
Thanks

Logic experience but...

All I can do is give you my experience with Logic on a Mac G4 with a MidiSport 2 x 2 interface.

The general idea is, if you have installed the software for the midi interface, the output to them should be available in the arrange window on the actual track list. Click and hold down a track until a long menu appears. The outputs should be available there. I use something called OMS which addresses my Midi interface where I can name the midi ports to the devices in the midi chain. Logic then runs everything through OMS which is probably very different to how a windows machine does it.

Hope this helps a little

Steve...R

p.s. if you click on a track, the midi window is middle of the window on the left. You should be able to select the port there too as long as you have selected a midi track rather than an audio one...!

Free Piano...

Seriously....

http://www.sampletank.com/

Steve...R

Sorry...

I got confused. I don't think it actually works as suggested by the blurb on the free sampletank which is worth a download...

Steve..R

it's pants

The piano sample is unuseable in my experience. LOT'S of noise just where it needs a boost to cut through the mix - useless free or not. And the registration process is lengthy too.

Installation...

I had problems with the installation number which used "0" and "o' but didn't tell you which was which... I also have more than one VST Plugins folder on the HD and I couldn't get the list of free samples up.. sooo i'm yet to hear it.. I won't try so hard in light of your info though...

how can i censor mp3/wav files??

im trying to make a parental approved cd of some songs, but so many words have become acceptable for radio that i cant find suitable versions of the songs. is there some program that will let me "bleep" out the bad words??

bro you need to go to winmx.com and download the file sharing program. type in your favorite song with the words "radio edit" or "clean" with it. It will help you find censored songs

Re: how can i censor mp3/wav files??

The Best software I know of is AudioEdit Deluxe. You can download it from download.com for free. It's only a 15 day trial, but I'm sure you can always just uninstall it then reinstall. Wuth it you can reverse, silence, bleep out, or distort profanity that's in a song; the software also has mixing function for creating/fixing a song. Hope this is helpful.

Re: how can i censor mp3/wav files??

Firstly, what's the point of bleeping out the words? If I say '*^*&%*%^%! you', we all know what I'm saying. It's the same with bleeps.

But it's your choice to bleep.

There isn't anything that will 'bleep' out the vocals but keep everything else intact. You can use EQ and some clever samples if you wish. It does work reasonably well. But it's a fair bit of work.

Another option is to check out the CD singles of the songs you are interested in as many CD singles feature the 'censored' version.

When you bleep out a word, it can make a certain situation in a movie funny.

I asked for help, not an opinion

Really?? You think the still know what the word is?? I didn't ask for your opinion, just help. I'm not looking to make it pretty, just to appease parents at a high school football game. If I was going to buy the clean versions then why would I make the cd?? Thanks for no help.

Re: I asked for help, not an opinion

Hey, as someone offering FREE advice, I can say what I like. You seem bad-tempered and unappreciative. Good luck with your parent-appeasing efforts. Feel proud!

Ok...

First of all you need a mp3/wav file editor. If you haven't got one already, I'm sure you can probably find a freeware one at this site.

Then you'll nedd to load up the wavefile into the program. Once this is done, you'll have the waveform.

Now there are 2 ways you could do this: The first would be to highlight the part of the song that contains the swearing, and insert silence. The 2nd, and better way to do it is to simply reverse the part of the song that contains the swearing. I've heard many Radio stations do this.

If I haven't been clear enough, feel free to give me an e-mail.

producer points

I was wondering where or how I can find out information on points a producer rate, can get or ask for.
Raamond

Re: producer points

5% was the old rate if you were pretty good. If you were hot property, it was whatever you thought you could get away with. It's all negotiation though isn't it.

If I was a well known producer, I would more than likely be happy with 5% for say a U2 album as you know it will make you a very rich man...!

putting minidisc onto cd

I have many m.d's which i would like to put onto c.d I have an Apple Mac G4 and an Audiowerk 2 soundcard, is there anyway of running my personal md player through my computer and then save the songs, and then put them onto cd???

AudioWerk SP/DIF

I am sure that the AudioWerk cards have SP/DIF which is the key to retaining the quality of the MD. The problem is that most MD players/recorders have SP/DIF 'optica' outputs. You could though buy an SP/DIF optical to coaxial convertor which would then connect straight to the AudioWerk card and you could record from there.

I think the AudioWerk cards come with Logic Audio AV which naturally works very well with the AudioWerk card. You have the perfect setup for the job but you may be short the Optical to Copper convertor. Buy one from a hifi shop...!

Any more details on this, send it to my email as I am away a lot at the moment...

Recording....ready for this?...a duck call.

At the risk of being totally ridiculed, I hereby admit that I compete in duck calling contests. Believe it or not its a fairly serious thing (for a select few nuts) requiring an awful amount of practice.

I want to set up an inexpensive recording booth in order to record my practice sessions. (Its difficult to grade one's own tone while blowing the call.)This would be in a shop building with metal sides and concrete floor. Duck calls blown at competition levels are extremely loud.

What material would I need for an enclosure? How big should it be? How sophisticated would the PC need to be, and which software would be needed? What microphone would be best for good reproduction of a loud instrument? What will be necessary for decent quality playback?

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Heh heh...

It's alright, i'm not really laughing, I make duck sounds all the time... ;0)

The best way to look at it is that you want to record a clear reproduction of a vocal sound without any ambient sounds (sounds of the space your making them in). The volume of the sounds that you are wishing to make are only going to trouble a cheap mic. How much you spend on a mic is relative to how much you'll use it, how much money you have and how accurate you want the sounds to be. If you wanted to go the cheap route, you could go for a reasonable dynamic mic like the Shure SM58 which would do but wont be as accurate as a condensor mic. If you have a few quid to spare, I would consider a RodeNt1 or ideally a Rode NT2 although this might be out of your price range. Condensors require powering in the form of Phantom Power (48vdc) which is usually supplied from a mixing desk, If all you had plugged in was one mic, then something like the Spirit Folio mixer would do. From here, you could connect the Folio's output to the input on a computer. To spend money on a decent mic and a reasonable mini mixer and then forget a decent input on your computer is not the way to go. You should then consider a quality sounds card or USB/Firewire audio interface (from which there are many to choose from...!). Recording the input into the computer should be easy with some of the programs freely available on this site.

The main question remaining is the vocal environment, Large spaces with metal walls is hardly the place to record a nice flat vocal so you should select a smaller place like a room in a house that is flat. A long time ago, I recorded a saxophonist in a house by grabbing a couple of mattresses and making a small room out of them by standing them up. It was a squeeze for the player but the result was very flat (too flat for a sax really). It also dulled out the volume of the sax to the outside world quite efficiently.

There are tons of ways of going about this but like I say, it depends largely on budget. You could do it for £50 or for £10,000, it's up to you..

Happy Quacking though..!

Cakewalk 9/Midiman 4x4 and Win 2000

I have Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 and a Midiman USB 4x4 midi interface. I have had this set up and working fine under windows 98 but just recently upgraded to Windows 2000 Professional. I downloaded and installed the newest drivers from Midiman for the 4x4. Since moving to Win 2000, I am no longer able to see the Midiman ports within Cakewalk when selecting the Midi Input and Output ports. I have sent e-mail to Midiman support a couple of times with no reply so I assume they are going to be of no help. Does anyone else use this setup and/or have any advice on what to do?

Thanks,
Keith

Need help!!!!

I'm looking to learn how to program dance/electronic/house music on my pc. Does anyone have any advice on which software is the best available to suit my needs? I'm grateful for any help and advice that anyone can offer. Thanks.

Re: Need help!!!!

Firstly, I don't know anything about your musical abilities. You gotta point stuff like that out. ACID is great for beginners and experts alike.

system requirements

before I download I wanted to know what the system requirements for AnalogX Scratch 1.05? You haven't mentioned them on the website of the software. can you tell me the requirements before i download later on.

thanxs!!

Re: system requirements

I went to the author's site only to find that he hasn't got system requirements either. Suffice it to say, WIN98/NT will likely work fine if you install.

AKAI VS G220

My VCR is not working, I live in the Netherlands, so I can't send you the device, but maybe you can tell me what is wrong?

I have a VCR of type VS G220, but now it is not working properly. Sometime the VCR works, and sometimes not. If I want to record some stuff, the VCR stops working and shows "ERR2" on the display.

The only thing you can do is unplug the VCR and plug it in again, but after that there's a big chance that the VCR stops again, showing "ERR2" on the display.

I hope you can tell me how to solve this problem, or maybe you know someone wo does.

Greetings,

P. Meesters

It's virtually impossible...

..to fault diagnose a hardware problem without having the device in front of you. The only thing that springs to mind is that some devices suffer software problems when when (if they have one) an internal backup battery is low in energy. It might be worth opening it up and trying to identify if it has a backup battery and replacing it. Often, they are generic batteries and wont cost too much.

If it was me, I would meter the battery with a voltage meter (DC) and see if the battery is providing the stated voltage. Mostly, they will give slightly over the voltage but only fractionally. Be aware though that opening devices with transformers can be hazardous and I recommend you give it to someone that has experience with electricity.
