hey there. i have had similar troubles with
Cubasis. I have a love hate relationship with
Cubasis VST. Well, perhaps your problem is in
fact with your sound card(s)'s driver(s).

Only certain sound/MIDI cards work with some
of the ASIO/Windows/DirectX/Avance program systems.

Even if they do work, they don't all of the time, under
all circumstances.

Furthermore, one incompatible program (such as a freeware
program that assumes you only have a cheap card)
can sabotage the whole system even further, so that
even when you fix the problem, nothing works because
your system's registry (or preference files/resources)
are messed up.

You will need to reinstall everything again, but
DONT install EVERYTHING. Cut out everything you
don't absolutely need for sure, but that Windows
probably doesn't need for sure either.

I found out that Windows 98 "needs" some Avance
drivers under certain circumstances and the "record"
default program under Windows also arbitrarily "needs"
to be some crappy thing (i forget what it's called).

This is one reason that many people prefer Macintosh
over Windows. Mac's have their problems too, but
the last time I checked, Macs only had ONE to SIXTEEN
system folders, not SIXTEEN to MILLIONS because of
Registry entries (which are basically system folders).

it's a little like 8 bit versus 16 bits.
a little bit goes a long way.

But I digress (of course).

punchline: try other alternatives.

computers for digital audio only
and external sequencers for...

how much ram does ur powerbook have? cakewalk would be a good choice, perhaps. the 150 is too slow for cubase.

Take a look at these programs. You need to convert your MP3's to WAV before you can burn them.
