Re: Why do Some Cd players not recognize CD-R's?

: I burnt a music cd using Adeptec easy cd creator 4.02 and it works great on both my home stereo's but some of my friends cd players cant read them. Any ideas why, and how I can fix this problem?

The number one problem is "CHEAP" Media. You can't buy those 100-for-$5 CDs and expect them to be good, can you?

I've always only used and recommended ONE brand -> Mitsui Silver. I buy my blanks from http://www.cdrplanet.com for about $80/100 on a spindle.

You can find more 'Recording Info' on my web page at http://www.knoxvillewedding.com

Re: Why do Some Cd players not recognize CD-R's?

Why some CD's fail sometimes...

ERRORS during recording...

dust
smoke
pollen
fingerprints
food particles
hair
lint
vibrations from the drive itself
vibrations from a person bumping the box
vibrations from the hard drive
vibrations from the zip drive
vibrations from stereo speakers
warped plastic of the CD
chipped surface of the CD (top OR bottom)
not enough ram
not enough ram at a given instant
system too busy to work with CDR drive correctly
miscellaneous software bugs in the CDR controller
random thermochemical problems with the CD
wrong write speed setting for the CD
physical circuitry of writer is too hot
physical circuitry of writer is damaged
physical chassis of writer is damaged
physical chassis of writer is a poor design
CD writer isn't installed firmly enough
unusual write technique used by CD recorder

ERRORS DURING PLAYBACK...

MUCH OF THE ABOVE + SOME OF THE ABOVE _AGAIN_ +

poor quality cd playing technique
poor quality cd player internal parts
unusual read technique used by cd player
glass printed (commercial) CD was printed poorly
laser is misaligned
cd player is just aging...

you blinked.

Re: Why do Some Cd players not recognize CD-R's?

I am not 100% about this, but as far as I remember you may burn multisesion CDs using Easy CD creator. If your friend's CD players are not MultiRead then they can not play multisesion CDs.

One suggestion is to burn the full disc in one sesion and close it so no more data may be write to it, and then try it on different CD players.

Also you may check if this is the problem using the Option Disc|Disc information on Easy CD Creator and this may tell you how many sesions you have on that disc. Most music CD players can only read single sesion CDs

I'm no expert either, the 9.1 update places lots of new extentions in your system..May be you have some extention conflicts, try turning unwanted extentions off when next running Cubase. If it ran well before the update, maybe you should revert to the previus. Have you checked apple.com and the cubase site for known issues, or further updates..Had problems myself with extentions, so know I monitor this folder carefully, copy the entire ext folder before upgrades or large instals, this way any changes can be restored.....jh

Re: convert songs in audio cassette to mp3

Simply record the cassette via the IN port of your soundcard. Use an audio editor like Cool Edit 2000.

Interuptions in burned songs

Whenever I Burn audio files from a normal cd to a cdw, I get little interuptions within the songs every 10 seconds or so. I am using Adaptec Software 4.02d and a Philips CD-RW, 800 series + Win 98.

Thank you for your help, Tom.

Re: Interuptions in burned songs

It looks like you have a procesor speed or memory problem in your computer.

Try the fololowing: First close all the running programs in your computer (including the screen saver or any other running on the backgroud), then create a CD image to your hard disk (intead of making a CD direct from another CD player). Then burn the copy at 1x. Do not use your computer for anything else while copying CDs.

If this solves the problem, then you need to get a better processor or more memory to your computer, because it is not giving enough procesor time to Adaptec while making the copy.

Can't record ......

I am trying to record my voice onto the Sound Recorder
in my computer. When I tap on the mic with my finger, I can hear it coming through the speakers. But, there is no indication that it is going to the Sound Recorder, the modulation line on the recorder does not move any.
It is a Dell, Dimenion XPS T600r , Windows 98SE

Re: Can't record ......

Sounds like you need to go into Control Panel / Multimedia / Audio and check that your soundcard is set up for recording.

For most of you, the best solution to your problem is to
collect a variety of programs. For example, get 2 or three sound editors
with different features and makers. get multiple multitrackers, too. Get at least
one VST and or DirectX program. The advantage is, you can usually fall back on one program
when the other doesn't work. If they both don't work, and you've maybe tried a third program,
it's probably a hardware/software mismatch problem, or you don't have a driver installed (properly).

Another thing is, sometimes one program will install the missing drivers that your other
programs need. Or, it's error message will tell you that it needs that driver or DLL file or
extension, or whatever.

Also, if you read the help manual files of different software, together
you'll get a much clearer perspective on digital music making and recording.

I like to use freeware, shareware, cheap commercial, and expensive commercial,
AND sometimes specialized hardware too. That way, each source teaches me
what the limits are of the others.

a quick glance at any programming book will convince you to
not spend TOO much time trying to troubleshoot ANY
program, because MOST programs have BUGS.

Many used music stores carry old mechanical gear that
at least WORKS or can be checked to see if it is
ACTUALLY BROKEN. Software can suck because there's
no true way to troubleshoot and know for sure what's
going on unless you understand your entire computer system design
and history and contents and file structure.

After 10 years, i almost did on my mac, but then i switched to pc.
however, i have learned that the quick solution is
a fresh clean system, a reliabe software creator (freelance or really good
commercial), and the least amount of gimmicks and gizmos.

a computer that does almost everything will probably
never be compatible with music creation.

jack of all trades, master of none.

a STUDIO QUALITY computer for audio will do JUST THAT
... A U D I O ... and nothing else.

some of the best digital sound systems have no visual
displays.

Why the hell should we even LOOK at sounds anyway?
it's a damned waste of time.

i rant and i rave, and of course this is an
oversimplification expanded into rambling,
but i have laid the clues here.

efficient web search, you might as
well give up everything now.

instead of posting questions here,
you could break down your question
into its keywords... basic nouns
and verbs and stuff...

submit it to a no-nonsense web search
engine, and you'll get better results.

I recommend GOOGLE while it's still good.
Altavista is quite good in the TEXT-ONLY
mode, but it has gotten sloppy with routing
certain kinds of queries to certain limited
ranges of commercial sites. Google doesn't
seem to have as much data, but what it does
have seems to be much more relevant.

Dogpile is a good place to start on
some searches, because it uses more than
one search engine, but you get the good
mixed in with the bad.

Learning how to search on the internet is
VASTLY more helpful than asking a million
people questions that you are too lazy to
figure out yourself.

Even when you DONT find what you're looking
for, you will find answers to other questions
you hadn't yet asked.

You should also read magazines such as
Electronic Musician, EQ, Keyboard, and Sound On Sound.

In 1993 I bought a copy of Sound On Sound in Boston,
near Berklee. That single issue I kept for the next
7 years because most of its information was 2 to 4 years
ahead of the American market. I'm not kidding!

you need an analog program. It allows you to record anything that goes through your soundcard. Creative makes one for SB Live and up.

Advise a musician on buying new computer equiptment

Hello. I have an old Quadra 840 av Mac. It's out of here. I'm getting a newer computer. But I also have a PC (Windows 95) laptop. I love the laptop for accessablily on the internet. But it too is too old. So what my question is, With making (writting, sampling, etc) music as the point I'm going to be coming from. What is everyone (the musicians) using for a computer. Are they all still using Macs, or has the PC's now become the way to go. I really don't want to be limited like last time (Mac can't upgrade anymore), so I kind of like the PCs, and their freedoms. But at the same time, making Music (and also video, photoshop, etc) is the main concern. So I'm cool with Macs, if the're still the way to go.
So can you write to me back, telling me which way most people are going about it, which computers are compatable (do they have the connections, sound card, etc needed), and Do you still use the Midi Time Pieces (Unicorn), or are they out the door aswell. I'm far behind, need to be informed of the present sitiuations.
Can you understand this letter. I probabilly sound like a blithering idiot. Anyway, if you do have time and can write back, I would most appreitiate it. Thank you.

Re: Advise a musician on buying new computer equiptment

go with pc i'll tell u y
contact me at "computerpizza@excite.com"
as i don't have time to reply now gotta go to work.

Re: Advise a musician on buying new computer equiptment

I used to run a Pro-Tools setup on a Quadra 650 until last year. Now I have a MOTU system on a G4 and it's very very good. You can of course run the same system from a pc. But if you take a good look at all the really pro software developers sites, the mac version always comes first and is then ported over to windows. This would indicate something would it not? PC software tends to favour the loopy bloopy musos amongst us whereas mac users have all that and much more.

I've had some success recording the whole mix (on soundblaster using "what-u-hear")to a spare audio track. This then becomes one big wav file which can be burned to cd. It's worked for me.

: I haven't had a problem at all - use the draw tool to draw a box around the whole mix i.e. select everything. Then just save the mix, remember to change the file extension to .WAV. Then burn to CD - Nero rocks in this department!!!

Re: Can I convert a Music Centre Pro "SEQ" file to WAV?

I also have this question. If you find out how, please e-mail me at laura_23@hotmail.com and let me know. I e-mailed the tech support tonight, so we'll see if they can answer me.

Can anyone please help with problems with Adaptec Easy CD Creato

I've been combing the ROXIO & IOMEGA sites now for hours, and am getting utterly frustrated...none of the info on either site is helping me out!

I have been having a stubborn recurring problem with burning audio CDs with the Adaptec Easy CD Creator v3.5. I've followed all directions and suggestions to the T, but still am having the same problem: after recording for a few minutes (or appearing to!), the ZipCD ejects the blank CD and gives 2 error messages (T7303 - Track Writer Error - Undefined or Invalid Parameter, and T7728 - Track Writer Warning - Operation Continues). ROXIO's website does mention both these error messages and suggests several things to try, which I have, and none of them has helped.

I'm hoping there might be someone out there somewhere who has had this same or similar problem AND who has found a solution (besides saying to hell with it & buying a newer version of Easy CD Creator or a different CD Burner altogether! Am I dreaming??!!)....

ANY help would be massively appreciated!!!!!

I had the same problem and tried absolutely everything. Even the tech that came out to "fix" the problem couldn't get a CD to complete. I solved this problem once and for all. I uninstalled Adaptec and installed Nero. Works every time and I don't have to turn off other programs, either. I am now COMPLETELY satisfied with my burning experience.

How to convert Real files to MP3?

HI,

I have several Real files on my harddrive that I'd like to burn onto CD.

Would I have to convert the files to .wav or .mp3 - and if so, where can I find software that can do that?

Thank you,

Re: How to convert Real files to MP3?

You can burn the Real files as they are to disc. It's not necessary to convert the real files if all you are going to do is play the CD on a PC.

i am setting a student project for architecture students that requires groups of 3 to record a composition in 1 week. sources may be digitsl or analog
can anyone suggest the easiest to use program that can arrange digital and mix files. ie something that can be mastered in a week?
your suggestions would be appreciated -email me
thanks

Re: easy to use editor

Mastered in a week? Whoa! You're making things tough for your students.

Try ACID. It's easy to learn.

Cheers

cost

How much would I be looking at spending on hardware and software
to have myself a decent little recording outfit?

And what would be the cheapest way to go about it?

I'm looking for stuff that won't crash every 5 seconds and stuff that doesn't sound like crap.

Thanks
Mark
