I usually use compression like .ZIP .SIT when sending files via e-mail unless they are wave files mp3's or txt files as they usually open okay, although sometimes with a little fiddling....

How do you mean exactly...?? You message is confusing because a DOS drive and a Demo could be refering to many things. I presume you have a demo of sorts in some file format or another on your Hard Drive that you need to get to but you will have to explain further or another answer to your question is unlikely. If you have lost something on the hard drive then do a search using the filename you think it maybe...

Go to Goldenhawk.com, they have a great product using the Yamaha and burningCD+G . I haven't had a problem.
I am looking for various titles to make CD's of specific songs for when we travel. A lot of DJ's don't have the songs we like to sing.

if the graffics are breaking up mainly near the end of cd your write & read speeds are to fast
read 8x max write 4x max

CD Architect

I tried to install the new update for sound forge CD Architect. I have sound forge 4.5 and cd Architect 4.0. I get an error when I run the install that say: "You must have this program installed on your computer first. Please run the setup from the original cd." Does anybody know of away around this?

It makes thing very hard to read...

Logic Audio SHOULD run the card well as it is made by the same company. Have you tried using Logic Audio's own drivers and make sure that all other selected forms of dealing with Audio in the program is switched off?? Have a look through the Audio Hardware page and see what is turned on or off. Make sure that the card is set to 16bit if dealing with system stuff as that makes a difference on my Macintosh....

A SCMS equipped device (domestic CD burner/Minidisk recorded) will look for the SCMS code on a CD and write it onto the CD to be burned. Try and copy the burnt CD again and it wont work as the CD burner will read the SCMS code on the burnt CD and realise it is a copy. This doesn't apply to pro-level audio CD burners or computer CD burners so it's kind of crap...

That would depend on what you are wanting to teach them... If it is musical theory then you would be looking into a different area than if you wanted to teach them how to construct a tune. You can get many good front CD magazine giveaways on magazines like Computer Music which is a England publication and available in WH Smiths. Also, what computer platform are you using?

Take a look at the below link for demos/shareware and freeware for you to try out and use. There is a lot there so it could set you on the right track. I would recommend you also to a shop called Sound Control. I know there is one in London somewhere so go take a look. They usually have a shop full of experienced musical staff covering all sorts of areas and are worth a chat to.

I live in Bristol and would be happy to help you select the right software with a bit more information.

Keep it simple

Well if the audience include five year olds it has to be very simple to use software! And an indestructible keyboard would be good too!!

My suggestion is to try an 'instant music package' which involves pre recorded samples of drums/bass/guitar/piano/vocals etc ready loaded for you. All the user does is drag + drop boxes representing samples onto a play window and hey presto - a song created in minutes! 'Ejay' is a good example but maybe a bit dance orientated for kids - then again maybe not! It comes in differnt formats and has been given away free on quite a few computer magazines front cover CDs so check them out. There are other instant music packages too - DJ 2000/MAGIX music Maker and get this one - Top Of The Pops (!!!) Mix Factory 2. It's released by BBC and apparently features Gail Porter! It's 'made for kids' too!

If you are thinking about making songs from scratch then you need a 'sequencer'. Data Beckers 'Music Centre Pro' is excellent for audio and midi recording - very simple to use, nice to look at and great results. You can check out the demo at their site.

SteveR's suggestion to get a copy of 'Computer Music' is a top tip. It has listings at the back of hard/software and often seems to review (or include on it's CD) something which you'd been thinking about!

comp .wavs - you can't unless you convert to a lower sample rate or bit rate (lower quality) with MS sound recorder

wav>mp3 - well this reduces the size of the song file via destructive compression - 'CDex' is freeware and easy to use

I have been looking myself and found CDMaster32 at http://www.zittware.com/Products/CDMaster32/cdmaster32.html

The downloadable program is not good enough. It puts a 1 second gap every 15 seconds, but I have tested and it does work. $30

I've also found MP3CDMaker, but again you need the full version to be useful. You can burn 4 songs to a blank CD and none to a cd with anything on it. This program appears to be the better of the 2. $30

You don't need to convert MP3 to CDA. Just get a
decent burner program and it will write standard
CDA files onto a standard CD-R which will play in
your car's CD player.

It's pretty easy and there's a really good tutorial
called <a href="http://www.mp3machine.com/news/493/">FAQ: MP3 to Audio CD</a>
on mp3 machine.

How To Burn CDAs readable in a CD Player & Why you have trouble

HOW TO BURN A CDA FILE(S) READABLE ON ANY CD PLAYER:

First of all, you have to go on CNET.COM in the downloads section, and search for a convertor that comverts MP3 Format to WAV Format. Download and install it. (It dosen't matter if it is shareware, freeware, or demo.) Then, record the WAV file on to an AUDIO CD. It will automatically compress and burn it in CDA format. (I've only tried it with "Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum", but it should work with any other program, as a normal CD player cannot read WAV format, and the alternative format for it is the compressed CDA format.)

WHY YOU HAVE TROUBLE PLAYING A CD-RW IN A CD PLAYER:

A CD-RWs' data can only be read if the reader has a built-in UDF Reader (which comes with your burning software if it supports CD-RW burning.) and your everyday CD Player does not have the UDF Reader in them, and the UDF Reader cannot be installed into the player. So CD Players don't have the ability to read CD-RWs.

Hello everyone, I am using nero to burn CD's. The program will not let me create my own CD by loading a song from one CD to compile my own mixed CD. how do I do this, is there a program that i can get to change a cda file to an mp3 file?

The best ever software you can buy to burn (even overburn) and have no problems is Nero. If you don't know where to get it, go to www.dogpile.com (the best search engine) look up Nero and download.

Sound card distortion aaaaarrrgh!!!!!

You guys seem to know what you are talking about and so kindly ask you for some advce if you do not mind.When I connected my amp to the input of the soundcard I have, I get huge amounts of distortion. I have tried adjusting the volume levels from the source and even tried a different source, I have also adjusted the sound levels in the soundcards mixer volume control. All to no avail!! I suspect the sound card is the problem as it is actually built into the motherboard. When playing back CDS and MP3S it seems fine though?

Any ideas greatly appreciated

A lot of cards are 'integrated' but that doesn't mean they are totally rubbish:)

Definately sounds like a 'level' problem. If other sources (quiet I hope?) also cause distortion then the souncards input is up TOO HIGH!! Have u adjusted the correct mic fader?? There is a 'play' volume AND a 'record' volume for mic/line in on my system so double click toolbar icon Option>Properties>Recording button and check recording level. The 'play' mic volume is really a 'monitor' fader for listening while recording etc.
