Re: mp3 to cd
Unfortunately, at this time there is no way to make a CD without having a CD writer. that is what allows you to store inforation on a CD. CD-rom only reads the information from a CD.
: dear sir
: i am in need if a software to make mp3 into cd ,but the problem is that i need a software which would work for a normal cd drive not a cd writer, do you think you could send me news as to what or where can i find this. thank you

converting mp3 to wav to burn CDs
I am seeking info on how to convert mp3 files downloaded from napster into wav files so that I can burn CDs. I checked out the site www.xaudio.com/wplay/ and downloaded one of the options there, (wplaypro) but ... forgive me. I'm a stupid moron. HELP!!!!! Thanks. jtv2@hotmail.com
Re: converting mp3 to wav to burn CDs
Try PCDJ Phat. You can get a free version at my website TheAudioNetwork.com. It comes with a tutorial which is very simple to understand, and the process itself is very simple. Hope it helps.

Software for Songwriters
I am looking for software for songwriters that will
make a printout with chord structure, when only the
melody note is played.
Also, software that will print out the above if the
user sings the melody into a mike.
This is to help out some folks who don't read music,
but are pretty good writers.
Can you help us.
Thanks.

Re: Software for Songwriters
: I am looking for software for songwriters that will

I don't think that's really possible, because for
any given melody there will be many possible chord
progressions that will make sense.
All a program could do is present you with many
options on what the chord progression might be.
There is a program called "Band in a Box" which kind
of does the opposite - you give it a chord progression
and tell it what style you want and it comes up with
a complete arrangement including melody. I haven't
used this program for years so maybe it now has some
of the functionality you're looking for.
You can read up on Band in a Box at <a href="http://www.pgmusic.com/">http://www.pgmusic.com/</a>
Does anyone know of software that will offer chord
progressions in response to a melody? Please post
the details here if you do.
Notation Software
I'm using MIDI software that has some notation capability, but leaves a lot to be desired. I'm writing multi-track MIDI files and would like to print the score for various instruments.
Can anyone recommend a good notation software that is also user friendly?

I quite like <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Muse/">Muse</a>
It's not the program with the most features but it
does have a lot of handy features and is easy to
learn to use (and it's a small download).
You could also check out some of the other notation
programs and see what people say about them at

iMac vs. PC
I can't decide if I should use my iMac or my friend's gateway pc for music software. Any ideas?
My experience with Mac's
Okay, i'm a Mac user and therefore biased, I make no bones about it and offer advice from my point of view.
Mac's make great music computers although you might find the iMac a bit limiting for PCI upgrades, although that is not necessary for proper audio as there are USB alternatives now. The iMac is also a lot faster than most people realise. They compare well in speed with the top running PC's and are more stable for music and you should, by rights, spend less time mincing with the system to get to using the things you want to use.
With regard to software, the PC has quite a bit more, but pretty much the same options. There is a feeling going around that makes people buy PC's over Mac because people believe that having more software available is all important. There are advantages to this but lets not forget, there is a quality package available for both machines with whatever you want to do. You'll only generally use the package that suits you anyway and there is enough sensible choice and a growing selection due to Apples continuing success in the domestic and pro market.
The machine is fun and the infinately lovable OS is something that may keep you with Macintosh for life. You may find that your better off looking for a used G3 blue and white due to it's PCI architecture, it depends on what your trying to do and where you want to take it.
Finally, I have never seen a PC running audio in a Pro studio (although there probably are some) The professionals use them and they should know best...
Cheers

Re: iMac vs. PC
: I can't decide if I should use my iMac or my friend's gateway pc for music software. Any ideas?
It's not an easy choice to make but the bottom line
in my mind is which one has the most free, shareware,
or commercial software available?
The answer is PC for all 3.
Re: iMac vs. PC
They both have their goods and bads. I don't know much about the imacs, but if your comparing a g3 or g4 against a pc PIII, get the one that will suit your needs better.
Mac's are generally better for recording audio in that it's faster a lot less likely to crash. The majority of Big time Multi-media companies that deal with graphics and audio use Mac's.
However if you're just sequencing a pc is fine too. A pc will do audio fine too, it's just I experience crashes every now and then with it.
The other advantage to a PC is the availabilty of a lot more software, however if you know what you're going to use, you might not need a lot of software.
Compare the processing speeds (like I said, I don't know the specs on the imacs) and what you're going to be using it for.
I currently use a PIII, 550 mhz and love it, however once I start doing more multi-track recording, I'm going to dump it for a g4 with protools.
Hope this helps...tough call.

Just a note: the iMac won't support Protools since it doesn't provide a PCI slot for the interface

Can you tell me which is the best notation program? I´m going to buy a Macintosh and I´m a music student. I would love one in which I can write my music without taking so much time. Thank you a lot!!
Notation...
There is Finale (which I have no experience with) or Sibelius as the Main Pro level notation packages for the Macintosh. You can download the demo of Sibelius from the link i've included at the bottom of the page or just have a look and read the reviews of what others have to say. It's expensive but full on apparently. That program and a Macintosh should be great!
Cheers

Help needed with Cubasis VST
Hope someone can help - when I record audio tracks on Cubasis VST 3.7 I get the metronome or other MIDI instrument parts recording onto it as well. I've tried playing with the mixer, but can't seem to get the click track playing while recording an audio track without the click recording as well. Any advice gratefully accepted. Mat.
Re: Help needed with Cubasis VST
: In the "record" window of my soundcards mixer I can chose wether I want to record "Mix-out" or "Line-Cd-Mic". By default the "Mix out" is ticked, so if i were to record with this setting I'd record the metronome as well, so I just tick "line-cd-mic" which solved the problem for me. The clcik is still playing but not recording.

How can I cut vocal part of an audio cd?
How can I cut vocal part of an audio cd?For example put an Eric Clapton cd and remove voice of Clapton listen only guitars ,bass, drums ......
thanx for your help :))
Re: How can I cut vocal part of an audio cd?
Use SoundForge or Cool Edit. There's plug ins that kind of do this. I don't think one exists that works perfectly. Or you can just filter out the vocal frequencies in almost any audio editor.
There's also a way to do this by swapping stereo's and such, but I've never tried.
scroll through this board, It's probably been answered several times.

Re: Asio Drivers for Soundblaster live!
Hello Bryan!
This is Martijn from Holland
Never heard of the APSLive-driver? Works great for me! This driver is a modified driver which was originally designed for the E-mu APS soundcard. Both the E-mu and the SB Live! use the EMU-10k1 processor. This driver includes effects that weren't available in the original SB Live! drivers (EQ and Compressor) and has ASIO-compatibility (8 ms latency=not too good, but good enough for me). Better control over more in- and outputs, this means more musical options.
To download the APSLive drivers go to the following site: http://come.to/sblive and find out all about it.
