Re: where do i start, i want to make music techno/trance
Hey, I'm looking for the same info - where to start learning about the actual hardware, not emulators for the PC. If anyone knows please let me know.
As far as creating stuff on a computer is concerned, you might also want to try Sonic Foundry ACID Pro and SoundForge as a combo.
If you're on a budget, there's a great FREE drum machine/looping music emulator called HammerHead Rhythm Station (http://www.threechords.com/hammerhead/), that allows you to import your own one-shots, loops, etc. and build your songs measure by measure. IMHO it's better for creating simple loops which you then import into Sound Forge and mess up good.
You can also sample your own CDs pretty easily with stock software on your computer.
OK enough rambling.
Techno/Trance

It is a wery good techno program, and when you finally can create good music with the program, you should buy a synth and a chaospad!!

Start with a little button called
Try the rebirth demo. There is agood chance you will buy it if you try it.
It rocks. Songwriting is very easy with it.
Hang out at www.propellerheads.se for more info on rebirth and reason.
Get audiomulch too. You need your own drums, but it gives you more freedom.
Re: where do i start, i want to make music techno/trance
Hi m.j.,
I can't really help you with the DJ side of things, but assuming you're using a reasonable PC or Mac, as a very first step you can't go wrong with with something like Steinberg's Rebirth (I use it with Steinberg's Cubase and a Korg synth for Goa trance). You can download a free demo from here (I think) or Steinberg's websites.
Good luck!

I wish I could give you an answer. I'm searching for one now. I live in Washington in the states, so if you live anywhere close to Europe if not in it, then you just keep searching cause I believe you may find it easier than me. But even I'm not giving up so good luck to you man

Hi
You can use Winamp to convert mp3 files to WAV files.
If you don't have Winamp you can download it over here:
http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Winamp/
If you have trouble downloading go to Winamp's own website
http://www.winamp.com
Once you got it installed this is what you do:
1)Go to the Options menu en select Preferences.
2)Go to Plug-Ins and select Nullsoft Disk Writer Plug-IN
3)Choose your target folder by double clicking on the plug-in or clicking Configure.
4)Close the window and open your MP3 files in Winamp. When you click "Play" it converts the MP3 files to WAV files just like that.

extracting just the vocals or beats from a song
I just got Soundforge 4.5 and I need to know how to take the vocals out of a song?
I heard their was a way to do it with Soundforge, but if not than what software does do it?
Re: extracting just the vocals or beats from a song
i need to make some karoke tapes/cds and i need to know how to extract the vocals off of the original tape/cd. i know this can be done because the vocals are on a different frequency than the music.
Re: extracting just the vocals or beats from a song
hey
well, theres a way to do it, but its kinda hard and doesnt work all the time, well, it hardly ever works.
u need an audio editor and then u open the song
split it into two different tracks and set each of them to mono, then mix them together, it mite work
i probly wont respond if u ask questions, sorry, but i just wont be back at this site

How Do I Enable The D.A.C. Decoder On My SSL 9000J Console?
I can't figure out how to enable the D.A.C. decoder in the systems management section of the SSL 9000J Computer. I've been calling a ton of people, even SSL tech support, and they were unsure. It is a function that is rarely used, but I must be able access it. If anyone has any ideas please contact me. Thanks.

Re: Production courses in London
I did an audio engineering course in London that was 1 year long about 13 years ago. I think the London School of Audio engineering was the Largest school of it's type at that time in the World but I believe a lot of things have changed since then. The course was basically the techniques of Audio Engineering rather than specifically Production although I know that there are quite a few University degrees that you can go on. My friend went on one in London for a degree in Modern Music creation (which I think was mainly Pop music production techniques). Phone up the local education authority and your off. The private ones can be expensive and you may need to juggle a part time job to pay for it unless you have rich relatives!!!

Steve....

Re: Production courses in London
There's a good recording school at Fanshawe College. Check it out. (well, London Ontario Canada, that is.) Hey - It's cheap to pay in Canadian dollars!
tstar
has anyone tried T-Star yet? and if so, what do you think of it?
Re: tstar
Mod - I'm the developer of Tstar. 30 years of record production experience
and building computer systems went into it.
It came about because so many musicians and recording folks i know
who trust my technical skills told me we need a low cost multitracker.
Its an extremely honest effort, and was so much work you
would not want to know.
Just download it and see if it works for you.
My fellow musicians have a basic choice here.
And its a classic catch 22 .
I want to build up my development team to give
even more back to you all. But professionals
cost money - basically i need to clone myself many times.
If i dont get the 20 dollar registrations or i get hacked to death
then i cant build my development team to build
even more features in to give to you all.
Tell me what you want to do and i'll tell you if
the package does it. There is no intent on my part
to hurt anyone. The whole idea was to put out something
that gave you all fun at a cheap price.
I dont see how anyone can complain at a package
for 20 dollars that gives you unlimited music
multitrack recording.
For a young band its a steal !

Re: tstar - Where is the DEMO 4 D/L ??
B Manning, where can we find the download site
of tstar to test ??
Re: tstar - Where is the DEMO 4 D/L ??
go to download.com, winsite.com
and zdnet software downloads section .
under search feature enter multitrack ,
and Tstar3.8 will come up in list.
as a tidbit - one of the nice features is to
quickly do copies and pastes between tracks.
i just finished testing on a new low end celeron 400
and Tstar is very fast.
The KEY is - make sure you have a good full duplex sound card.
Another feature i've built in is basically a
drum machine in software. explore carefully
all the edit features in conjunction with
the sample paste buttons. A tutorial is included.
If you have any questions - i will be checking back every two days.
Let me add there is no intent to rip off anyone.
This is a very serious effort to give musicians
a serious low cost multitrack tool which they have
been longing for for a long time.
In return - please respect these efforts by registering if you
find it usefull, so i can hire more technical people
who are very expensive. Its only 20 dollars !
B Manning Bsc
PS - the recording tips alone i've included
are worth 20 dollars, and condense a recording handbook
of my experience as an engineer for 30 years !
Adding a click track to a wave file
Can anyone help me out with suggestions as to how to do this or reccomend a piece of software that will help
looking forward to some helpful suggestions

Re: Adding a click track to a wave file
I suggest using acid V2.0 or 3.0. (And if you need to cut the click, use Wave Lab)

RTAS PLUG-INS PROTOOLS
WHY ARE THEY COST SO MUCH?
Re: RTAS PLUG-INS PROTOOLS
: WHY ARE THEY COST SO MUCH?
Can i try your demos
Re: RTAS PLUG-INS PROTOOLS
: WHY ARE THEY COST SO MUCH?
Because. No really, these plug-ins replace outboard gear costing much more. In addition to the fact that they actually DO work as well or better than their outboard counterparts they can be fully automated (most of them) to interact with you're recordings in ways you could never image doing with outboard gear.
They're awesome - most of them - and they're worth every penny. Most also let you try before you buy.
