If you can't make any sense of a Schematical diagram I would urge you to go and buy a Midi interface from people that do. Building a interface like that from scratch is more of a job than you probably want to get into.

If you really want to try it I would start with a small project kit which will supply you with all the components you need and more importantly, the circuit board although buying kits don't usually supply the box the electronics will go in and the cables to connect to the controller (whatever that may be). You can (if you feeling really bold) buy a simple PCB (printed circuit board) in parallel lines and you can connect components to it as you like BUT you would then have to understand the schematics to know where to put anything. Also, I don't know if there is a Kit available for a Midi interface that would have the Macintosh connectors included. Your Mac has a seriel connector which would probably have to be obtained seperately.

You might find that you spend just as much money on the Midi interface in parts as you would buying a new unit and more to the point, the factory unit will work first time!

I live in England and have made various Musical electronica from kits for many years (bought from places like Maplins and music shops) and some of them are probably aimed at the eager user with soldering experience but building a unit from schematics should really only be attempted by someone who, with respect, knows more than it sounds like you know...

Vocals remover? Try using the vocal remover from analogX

at www.analogX.com

It works with winamp and standalone versions exist too.

Works by flipping the phase of one channel to cancel any ewually distributed signals.

You lose much of the song's tonal wuality, and vocals panned slightly will not completely disappear.

Unfortunately, the human voice covers such a wide frequency range in recording that it cannot be removed by filtration. Only by phase adjustment.

Well, it's been a year and I've been waiting for one two. Seems Roland created this kick butt keyboard, but are offering VERY little info on it.

Anyway, I got tired of waiting so I created a patch script for Cubase 5.X. You can access all of the patches from a drop-down menu. It's pretty cool and flexible. Download it at:

Try zipping the files before you upload them. Get a program called pkzip...it compresses the files and makes them files with extension .zip instead of .mp3...it will fool the server into thinking it's not an mp3.

using the ZIP extension usually doesn't work servers usually wont allow them.
Try to get WinRar, it makes them to .RAR files, which can be opened with WinZip too, and are unoticed by servers.

Midi Timing Problems / Win95 / ACID / LOGIC

I got terrible problems with Midi timing on my system.

Example#1: Using ACID PRO 2.0 I want to trigger my external
909 via Midi Clock. When I start Acid (with all settings
which are needed) the 909 starts with delay. Sometimes up
to a 1/8 note ! This is different every time I start ACID.
I cannot find any timing-related Midi settings in ACID. Audio
starts fine every time. There must be a prob. with the Midi
Time Clock.

Example#2: LOGIC 4.0, 1 track with Midi notes, 1 track with
an audio loop, Midi Clock is set to be sent out to trigger
the 909. When I start the sequencer, it first runs fine,
however after a couple of bars the 909 "hangs" for a very
short time, the audio loop & the midi track still run fine.
When I start Logic it tells me, that I better should use
W98 instead of W95 due to timing probs w/ W95.

My sytem: PII 450, 192 MB RAM, Terratec EWS64 XL

Software for Transposing Recorded Music

I am searching for software for Transposing recorded music and vocal cassettes or CD's so as to effect a change in "pitch" without affecting speed (tempo).

E.G. cassette of Placido Domingo/John Denver recorded in B flat - would like it changed to E flat.

Please let me know if you are aware of any software that will perform this function.

ok ive been recently playing with different multitracking
and mixing programs, as well as other stuff, mainly because
i wanted to experement and possibly make my own house or trance
tracks... but where do i find samples of stuff like sound effects
and vocal clips, and anything else that is normally mixed in
techno tracks?? is there software to pull that kind of stuff
out of a song in wav or mp3 format?... i have been to a few stores
looking for this kind of stuff on hardcopy, but no luck

any and all help will be appreciated!!

I play at hammersound (www.hammersound.com)

Most of their stuff is in soundfont format, so downlaod Awave 6.3 to dissociate to waves (save as .PRG)
