: Right click on the file in question, then click on properties. You can then uncheck the box marked "read only". You can then edit the file.
You can do this with all Windows files like bitmaps and textfiles. You can also revese the process to make your Autoexec.bat file read-only, thus affording some protection from certain types of virus (remember to change this when you installing programs that amend your autoexec.bat).
MacAmp ID3 Tag / WinAmp ID3 tag.
Why does WinAmp not scroll the Album field of the ID3 Tag in the window while MacAmp does?
anyway to get this field to scroll in WinAmp like it does in MacAmp?

Annoying spaces between tracks
I'm using Adaptec Easy CD Creator (among others)to record WAVs to CD for home stereo use. I use the Disk At Once feature which eliminats the 2 second gaps; however, I still get an annoying skip in between the tracks when songs run together(concert recordings). Does anybody have any ideas as to how to fix this problem? Thanks.

Does anyone know where the hell I can get a used (cheap) soundcard and daughterboard (ie Yamaha DBX50XG) here in AUSTRALIA? It almost seems like people throw out the old ones when they upgrade, and I can't find any shops that sell them.
Urgent : RealAudio-stream to Audio-CD ???
Is it possible to convert a RealAudio-stream to let's say a WAV-format and then from that burn a normal Audio-CD, i.e. a CD you can play on a normal HiFi CDPlayer ???

WAV to CD Audio
To create a CD Audio from existing WAV files, you'll first need WAV files that are stored in a CD Audio specification - this means they have to sampled at 44,100 KHz, 16 bit with stereo.
Thereafter use your CD recording software and create a layout for an Audio CD - insert your WAV files in the layout and burn. You should read the help file of your CD recording software to find more details.
Common CD recording programs with Audio CD support include Adaptec Easy CD Creator, CeQuadrat just!Audio and Nero Burning ROM.
Windows Media Player 7 also automatically creates an Audio CD from a given playlist.
copying audio cds with enhanced interactive content
can any one help?
I have a yamaha cd-r/rw and nero copying software.I need help copying cds with enhanced interactive content for the pc.When i use nero to copy cd to cd a message appears"the cd is blank, invalled,or a multisession please insert original"but the original is in the drive
Re: copying audio cds with enhanced interactive content
Several formats are available to work with in Toast, including enhanced music cd and cd-i. Plus it seems to work with a variety of recorders so it may be worth checking out as an alternative. I'm not familiar with nero but I hope this info will be of some help. The pc equivalent of toast (mac) should still accomplish your objective if your using an IBM-compatible.
How do I set up sblive at 48khz w/logic audio platinum?

How can I syncronize a drum loop with an entire song?
This is what I want to do. I got an entire song in .wav format. I want to add a drum loop to make my own remix. Which software can I use to match the tracks? I don't wanna make it manual. I nedd something that understand where the measure starts or the beat so I can syncronize with another measure automatically. I know there is a function in Cubase to match some wave together, but I don't know how.
Is there out there another software much easier?
Thanx in advance
Re: How can I syncronize a drum loop with an entire song?
I did it today for the first time in cakewalk pro audio 9. if you have access to it email me. otherwiese, cubase could be similar. if your completed audio is on one track, track 1 for instance, place the drum loop in the next track, then select the measures you want it to fill, and in cakewalk i go EDIT | FIT TO TIME. There's probably something similar in cubase.

cool edit pro, win 98 and isis problem
I have just installed Windows 98 on my computer, after
runnimg 95 and CEP with Guillemot Isis without a problem.
Now that 98 is installed about 2 seconds into recording
the program hangs for a few seconds, and this is
particularly frustrating. Any help would be greatly
appreciated

Hello,
I use Windows 98 SR1, CoolEdit Pro 1.2a (runs better than V2.0!), and the Guillemot ISIS.
The only thing that could be, try another PCI-slot. And use CEP 1.2a.

How the HELL do I convert MIDI into Wav?
I can NEVER get a good answer for this, so one more try.
I made several MIDIS, using CUSTOM soundfonts. Thus, software midi converters like WinGroove. But WG is not free, and sucks anyway, cuz it uses its own GM bank.
I cleared all my soundfonts in my SBLIve value SoundFont control, and loaded my custom SoundFont. So when I play the MIDI in Winamp or whatever, I hear it with the soundfont it uses, not just in Cakewalk.
BUT, I need to convert it into Wav. And badly. So far, NO LUCK!
I tried playing in in Winamp, and using SoundRecorder, but that doesnt work. Get some error about devices not being shared. So I tried Media PLayer, and when i recorded using Sound Recorder, I get nothing but what my MIC recorded. Tried using CoolEdit, nothing.
So how the hell do i do this? I tried it in Cakewalk, but thats too **** hard and complex. Please explain it to me step by step if you know how to, or if you know of a FREE (not shareware, not anything else, but FREE) program that lets me render into wav. thanks!

Re: How the HELL do I convert MIDI into Wav?
OK, here's the final answer from one who worked this problem for 2+ years:
Get Audio Compositor. Better than the competition. Pay the $40 and be grateful you will fix this problem.
Get the General Midi soundfont set from Sonic Implants. Pay the $50 and be grateful you have a decent GM synth sound.
Run Audio Compositor with the GM soundfont (read the directions), at its highest quality resolution, saving the wave output to a file. On a 600mz machine, expect a typical track to take 10+ minutes to generate.
At the end of this process, you will have the best sounding wave file generated from midi that you can get for under several thousand dollars. That doesn't mean it will sound great, but it will not be bad for piano or drums. Forget midi strings. Midi Horns are marginal. Slap some digital reverb on it in your sequencer.
Do not be disillusioned. Midi does not hold a candle to real instruments played by decent musicians. There is no substitute for a real drummer, real guitarist, etc, and never will be, period. For example, your midi drum tracks will sound like a robot playing a drumset with no tonal variations compared to a real miced drumset. But it will sound like drums and be acceptable for practice and arranging, until you hear a great drummer over your tracks, at which point you will be tempted to put your midi gear up for sale and start playing real music for a change...

I have searched the Internet and found quite a few software that converts Midi to Wav.
One is WinGroove, but it is shareware and uses a lot of processor power.
Another is WAVMaker from Polyhedric software, but it is not free as well.
The third is Audio Compositor, but the Wav it creates sounds quite terrible.
Lastly, a freeware program. Timidity++ is a good choice. It is free, and the Wav quality is very good, but you need to download the Eawpats patch files to use it.

Re: How the HELL do I convert MIDI into Wav?
I am using Cakewalk Pro Audio Deluxe 9.0 and it is very easy. Load your song with the soundfonts ready to play. Hopefully you have already recorded the MIDI and it is playing back through your soundcard using the soundfonts you chose. Now select an empty track and adjust it's SOURCE to one channel of your audio card (ex: mine says "Left SBLive! Wave in"). Arm that trach to record, and solo the tracks that are playing your soundfonts. The wav file will be recorded. If you see the wav clip and it appears to be a flat line, or you can't hear it when you solo it and play it back, you may need to adjust your soundcard mixer settings (select MIDI, turn up the volume, turn OFF your microphone etc.). This is how I record MIDI-played soundfonts, and mix them with live tracks, other audio or GM MIDI stuff. To get the GM stuff from my keyboard, I cable it to the "Line-in" of my soundcard. Good luck! David.

---> To Correvt One Thing, with Wingroove, you can change the Midi Driver in the settings, and if you think it's too expensive, fool around with this:
Wingroove v0.9E
First box: ZAAAAAAA
Second box: BJG70109
I havne't played around with soundfont much, but if you use cakewalk, or any other program that supports Midi, try checking Save-As, and see if it has a wav option, or, optionally, try "Export", usually in the file menu...
If worse comes to worse, record play it back into your tape deck, and record it, then playback from your tape deck and record as a wave file from the tape.

Try this...Put your midi file into cakewalk. Open another 2 tracks below your midi tracks. Enable these tracks to record on the return channels of your midi files. This will convert them to a wav.
Re: Midi to Wave
If you can run CoolEdit and play your MIDI file(in the background) at the same time
why not just connect your sound-out port to your
sound-in port and record a .wav with the CooEdit.
Lets know.

CD to CD
I have been making audio CDs by downloading MP3s by using the Napster program. Now I'm interested in making a CD from a CD. Do I have to convert the tracks from the "source" CD to WAV format before I can write them to another CD? I noticed these tracks were followed by .cda.

Re: How can I convert .au files to .cda?

Re: How can I convert .au files to .cda?
You can store and use .cda only on AudioCD, so if you have CR-recorder and software for it, you should choose "create Audio CD", select your audio files (usual it is .wav) and just click "Record CD" button. Auduo files will be converted automatically.
