I am contemplating in buying a GINA card.
What version of windows does it supports. I found windows 95, what about 98.
Also can I use cubase vst and cakewalk with GINA?

What other soundcards are good for the same price range?

On my laptop computer [ Windows 98, Dell Inspiron, Pentium, 64 MB RAM ], the single waveform editing works perfectly. However, in multitrack mode, the quality is clearly distorted and broken. Basically, if i speak into the mic in multitrack mode, there's a very obvious broken-ringing that goes with the voice [ the louder the voice, the louder the static-broken-ring sound ].

My soundcard IS capable of full-duplex, as it does record and play at the same time. However, it is only in multitrack mode that the broken-ringing arises.

I've tried different devices in the multitrack settings also -- it's normally set to ESS Technology's Maestro Mixer's -- Maestro Playback & Maestro Recording. I tried Wave Mapper, still doesn't work.

Could it be that in multitrack mode, because it is also in playback mode that my computer is adding in some noise from somewhere? What's puzzling me is that it's not CONSTANT noise -- ie it's not just a static or hiss. It really is a broken static-ringing noise that goes ALONG with the mic-input.

PLEASE help. I've racked my brain on this one. CEP works perfectly on my desktop at home -- I need it to work here, too.

What soundcard are you using ?
Some soundcards that are supposed to be
full-duplex really aren´t !(AWE 64 for one)
Try changin both open order and start order to
(rec,play) that way the distortion will only
appear while recording, but the final result will
sound fine. You may also try different buffer
settings.

i need source code in c for converting a mpeg II audio file into a pcm .wav file. i then have to analyse this file to detect events in the audio, i.e, increase in amplitude/power etc.

can anyone help?

Free MIDI player which you can mute channels

Does anybody know of a (preferably) free MIDI which you can shut off the channels. I only want a simple one for work to play MIDI's without the bloody awful sung line played badly !!!

EZ-CD Creator

Burning CD's is really new to me. A friend installed my burner and EZ-CD Creator 4.0. I made alot of CD's. Then it stopped working. He felt a file got corrupted so he removed version 4.0 and installed 3.5 which came with the burner. When I make a CD now it says it was successful. I see the red light on the burner saying it is burning. However no "rings" are on the CD and when I check out the CD it says it is a blank recordable CD. Any ideas?

First What program are you using?
Cakewalk?
The best way is using 8 Port SE.
You can Syn - 8 Port out and * port in.
(remember each port you can hook up 16 instruments)
Out from your PC Paralel Port to the 8 Port SE
and midi from there to your Sound modules. You can use the 8 ports to generate 8 sound modules. Just asigned from the Computer.
Than out puts from your Sound modules to the Mixer in stereo. Line out from your Mixer to the Power Amps and than to the Speakers.
Boom.... Sound.

Problems with recording in Cubase VST

I have Sound Blaster 16 ASP MCD. When I want to record
from Cubase VST I can only use mic input. It seams that
line input is not available.

My question is: is it possible to record signals from line
input and how to do it?

Hi Alek,

I am not a technician but there are too many options open :-
1) Channel set to mute in SB16 control or set to low...
2) Incompatibility - the SB "Live" is the only full duplexing sound card from Creative - the rest have problems,
3) Drivers not set properly,
4) Impedence wrong for line-in, (too weak)
5) Track type wrongly defined eg. "Midi" instead of "Audio"

I am trying to record tracks with Home studio 9.
I am able to record in track number 1 but track number 2 and on always, overwrite and I am getting no sound out of my keyboard when I move everything to track 2 and the source to channel 2.
I keep in on sound on sound always.
What am I doing wrong?

there are lots of soft-synths. if you need one
to build your own synths use REACTOR.
for DOS get AudioSim Virtual Synth.
if you prefer minimalistic music get REBIRTH.
for drum-sounds use B.BOX or HAMMERHEAD.

We do jr. high dances at our community center. Kids are asking for new music each time. Rather than buy CD (some of which have inappropriate words) it is suggested we download MP3 files, edit what needs to be and burn CDs to play at the dances. OK what do we need? We will be working with a laptop.

There are a lot of legal MP3 releases that you can download but unless you have a great connection, it's going to take some time to download enough songs to DJ with. Unfortunately, editing out the rude words will prove difficult and will more than likely be very obvious to your young listeners. Still, you'll find the CD Burning software <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/CD_BURNERS/">here</a>. There's a great load of <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/RE-MIXING_DJ/">DJ</a> software on the site. ACE software - help

Hi all - could someone give me some advice on what soundcard i should think about buying for the purposes of producing music on my pc? are there any available which, with the right software, are capable of producing professional results (soundblaster live?) without additional hardware (samplers, effects, compressors etc)? what kind of machine would i need for this (ram, disk etc etc).....thanks,
