im a hardware guy and just getting into software so forgive me if this sounds stupid.isnt acid a sampler..sample your own loops.its more creative and cheaper.

Your right in a sense but it's lots more actually .. Acid is primarily an "Audio Sequencer". You can multitrack,set pan envelopes, volume envelopes, effects envelopes, MIX, Add mixer busses, add effects, time stretch and pitch bend, you can use your own loops or use sample disks as well. If you "Acidize" a stock loop, you can use it in acid at virtually any tempo and pitch shift it. When you change the tempo, you don't change the pitch either. There is some pretty nifty DSP going on there under the wraps ..
I am missing other functions but don't want to bother you reading so much ... :-)
It's one of the several programs I use. I am also gettiong into more hardware since I have just purchased the KORG EM-1 and the ZOOM RT-323 drum machine . I also have a Phat Boy MIDI controller to control my Fruity Loops Soft synths ......

Hi there, I never used ACID to create music, but I tried lots of programs.
The one I go for is Fruityloops, it permits me to start and finish a song in the same program.
It has ALL the tools I need, a BIG sample library, ALL the effects you can think off.
For me it is definitly the best most complete program.
Check out my music and you'll see what I mean.
Most of my songs were created in just ONE DAY.

ACID-PRO - Help Needed
Hi Dudes
I recently downloaded for free Acid pro but cant seem to generate any sounds. This trial version wont let me take samples from CDs. Are there any free loops to be found anywhere or do you have to buy them.
What I want to do is make tunes on my PC at home - can you do this with acid pro ? Is there another program anyone can recommend to do this. Is it possible to do all this for free or will i need to buy specialist software
The easier to use the better. I'd like to create beats and then add sounds over the top of them
please help as I'd love to able to make some top tunes at home but am failing miserably at the moment

You need samples and loops to use ACID. ACID isn't a <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/CD_RIPPERS/">CD Ripper</a> or <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/cat/AUDIO_EDITORS/">audio editor</a> so you can't use it to grab a sample off a disc.
You'll find heaps of free samples and loops via <a href="http://dir.yahoo.com/Entertainment/Music/Recording/Sampling/Samples_and_Loops/">http://dir.yahoo.com/Entertainment/Music/Recording/Sampling/Samples_and_Loops/</a>.
Remember ACID is a sample sequencer. The version you should use is the freeware <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/SonicFoundryAcid/">Acid Xpress</a>.
Honestly, ACID works and is one of the best and simplest ways of getting started. But it's not a toy. The pros use it.

value/price and a space for additional info such as, coloured vinyl, picture disc etc.

I don't know what software can handle such volume, but Microsoft Excel and Access can handle it for sure!

Burning for pertable MP3/CD players
Does anyone know how to burn a CD correctly for those poratble dual MP3/CD players. You burn them in MP3 format without converting them. I'm trying on a Mac burning with Toast 5, I can get roughly 180 songs on a disc but the player says 'disk error'

Doesn't it say in the instruction manual that came with the
CD player what format the disc needs to be written in?
My Kenwood in-car MP3 player is quite specific about what format
is required - ISO9660 format (not Joillet, which is the normal
format), meaning file names of 8 characters. It is also very
selective about what brand of CD-R it will play.

Rumble recording vinyl from mic input
Can anyone please advise.
I am using Goldwave and recording from vinyl through mic input.
I am getting a bad rumble that needs obliteration of everything below 300 hz to get rid of.
It is not a turntable problem: the rumble is there even with the plug pulled out of the jack. I have muted or 'not-selected' other inputs, so these are not the cause.
I don't wqant to lose all my bass. Can anyone help, please?

Does the turntable have a built-in RIAA pre-amp?
If not, you'll have to connect it to an amplifier first,
then use the LINE IN to record from.
Also, the mic input isn't really designed to handle
anything else but a microphone.

Hi...
I would like to know how I can edit an existing MIDI (.mid) file. Is there a freeware / shareware to do this? Sorry...this seems to be a very basic question to some of you...I'm a complete novice.

casio floppy wont play on a PC
Please advise the solution for a suitable midi player to allow for playing of casio floppies on a PC. I have struggled fruitlessly for over two years . 1. You need an idea as to what you're going to do to the song.
2. Decent software. <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/SonicFoundryAcid/">Acid Xpress</a> is great freeware.
3. Samples. You can get them from many sites on the web. <a href="http://www.acidplanet.com">AcidPlanet</a> is worth a surf.

Mac recording
Can anyone suggest a good audio recorder for the mac.
I've had a look around and seem to be swamped with choice.
What I want to do is record mixes from my turntables into my computer and then burn them on to CD. I al ready have the ability to burn the CDs. All I want to be able to do is record and mess around with the set a bit.
Can anyone suggest a cheap (preferable free) way of doing this?

You could use something like 'Coaster' for recording the sound from the Mac's input but I don't know if it offers much in the way of editing. You MUSTN'T plug the record players into the mac directly... If you have a mixer for the decks, then the output from that (line level) will go straight into the Mac's audio input.
Have a look at all the options for editing in the audio editor section of this sites download area. I haven't looked there for a while but there should be some ideas there. I personally use 'Peak' from Bias for all my 2 track editing, there is a cheapish LE version around... check it out...
If you want to do some more serious remixing, I would suggest you look at an Audio Multitracker. There is a demo of Cubase for the Mac on this site which will give you some idea. Either Cubasis or Logic Audio AV are cheap considering what they will offer you on a creative level. Well worth a look... Trust me... ;0)

Converting sound from tv to Computer
Hi,
I am trying to find out what hardware I need and perhaps even how to convert sound or even video to the computer. thanks

What you need to look for is an Audio output on your TV. There is more chance there will be one on the VCR though, have a look. The connector will more than likely be 'Phono' (RCA) conectors that will be running at line level which is the level required by most computers audio inputs. Buy the required lead and then download a program from this sites extensive music app library and record the information over.
You could also use a TV card for the computer. There are rarely very expensive although you may need a spare PCI slot. Most of these TV cards will offer an analogue input although you may not get very good quality of Video (sound will be okay) as the computer that you maybe using will struggle to convert full screen composite video into a compressed file (MPEG) with enough speed.
There are two ways to solve this.
1. Either buy a dedicated Video card that deals soley with video editing as this will more than likely compress the video with dedicated hardware which will be faster than your computers CPU.
2. If you have a digital video camera (Mini DV etc...) the video camera will do the hardware MPEG conversion for you and you could connect the camera to the computer using FireWire (IEEE1394) providing you either have a current Mac, or a PCI Firewire card.

A music player that turns on like a screensaver
Hello. I would like to find a music player that will turn on and play a playlist of songs after I don't use my pc for about 5 or 10 minutes. If you know of a player that can do this or a program that can allow Winamp or Windows Media Player to do it please e-mail me or post a responce. Thanks
