You obviously didn't look in the right place. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/directx/homeuser/downloads/default.asp and you can get Direct X8.0a.

holly shit this fourm has gone to hell
Just an observation
Hi All,
First off I think this site is great and have exprssed this opinion previously to Geoff Nicholson the goodman himself. I hear what you are saying about people asking the same questions time and time again, but bear this in mind, as a biginner it is often difficult to see the wood from the trees, fortunatley for me I found a very good person on this site who has been able to answer my "dumbass questions" and has asked for nothing in return. The individual i speak of is a musician in every sense of the word, I play guitar and have gigged for about eight years with vatying degrees of success, the common thread amongst all musicians is the desire to express themselves and help other musicians develop along the way whilst also learning a bit from them too, whether this be in watching them perform, sharing demo tracks, colaborating or.....giving them a helpful start when they endevour to attain a certain level of autonomy when creating their own music via todays sophidticated technology. I do not want to start a big rant etc and understand how frustrating it can be but I believe that as my good friend Klaus (mentor)has been so patient in helping me(he even sent me personilised tutorials!!)I will return the favour in the very near future when I develop and come across something new or exciting....
Basicall Im just saying that RTFM isn't a good place to start sometimes because by its nature people are looking to get creative as soon as they can, once they get the initial push then the F(*&^%$ manual starts to make sense and the rest appears on MP3 sites around the world.
PS Thanks for a great site, thanks for a start in my musical independance and most importantly thanks to all the real musicians out there that help each other out, I plan on being one of 'em.

Yeah, it's filled with people who can't spell HOLY or FORUM!!!
Couldn't agree more
It these inconsiderate a*******s who seem to think they can post just about anything - even if it's illegal.
Shame really.

I used to moan about this site...
The residents of this site have never changed. There's few people that come here that can actually answer questions, a few with some decent questions and then the mass is a combination of people that can't actually think for themselves, buy things, or type more than a sentence with their typing thumb.
If you don't like it, do what I do. Come here very occasionally and do your best to sift through the predictable. The place became too frustrating for me but I still feel obliged to come back and help out from time to time...
Trying to educate these people to what this forum is about is...... ImPoSsIbLe...! Don't tire yourselves out, it wont help.

Yes, there is intelligent life in this forum. Thank you guys for putting things in perspective.
Re: I used to moan about this site...
I've answered a lot of questions in here and I'd like to think I've helped people along the way. I don't believe the task of educating people is impossible. If people want to learn, I'll do what I can to help. Sometimes what appears to be a lazy question is an honest one from an earnest person who really needs to know the answer and not be told to RTFM. I'm sure I'm not the only person to feel this way.
All the best
Geoff

I agree...
I agree with that Geoff... I remember when I first started with Forums and didn't know the social etiquette of actually thinking before asking. I believe the point of being a little rude to people (not myself I hope) that plain haven't bothered to 'Fit In' with the written and unwritten rules of this and other forums, is education itself.
A short sharp shock to what is right and wrong is often the answer to learning from a young age and people in a new environment will more than likely appreciate the 'Cruel to be kind' policy in the long run.
I made the point that the residence never change here because I believe it's true. There is always good people aware that the forum exists and some sensible guidance is often given. I just cringe when I hear people moaning like I did about the people that ask the questions here in the grim hope that it will make a difference and all the pirates will go elsewhere, the stupid questions people will actually go to the file area first, etc etc... It's a potentially good forum that sadly attracts a lot of Dongs...!
All the best

: Shame really.
: : In addition to those who are dense enough or lazy enough to think they can get warez via this forum, there are also those who simply want to use it as a billboard for their own dubious products or latest scam(As you can see on this very page), and those people who don't bother trying to find out something for themselves and ask questions that have been asked and answered any number of times if they would but read before posting. How many times do you have to explain to people you cannot convert an audio track to a midi one? People who can help just don't bother anymore.

By RAM files, I take it you mean real audio? Try Streamboat Ripper. Trial version at http://www.5star-shareware.com/Music/AudioEncodersandConverters/streambox-ripper.html

cd track to midi
anybody know how to convert cd track/mp3 to midi/sheet music? pls recommend me the related software. thanks.
Re: cd track to midi
Converting CD tracks to MIDI is impossible, as there is no information about what notes each individual instrument is playing.
Therefore, there is no way to generate MIDI data.
Andy
Re: cd track to midi
Anything you want to convert (CD,MIDI,MP3) should be converted to a WAV first. I wouldn't expect much out of converting music to MIDI as the process isn't great if you've got more than one instrument. Try <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/WaveGoodbye/">WaveGoodbye</a> or just look in the <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/MIDI_PLAYERS_UTILITIES/">MIDI utilities section</a>.
You'll find great sheet music software in the <a href="http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/NOTATION/">notation section</a>.

HELP---I need to find out how to make exact analog copies of my
I record backing tracks on my computer and I want to record those onto my 4track recorder to do vocals and guitar over the top of. I want the backing track to be exactly the same as the .wav file on my computer so that I can line up the origional backing track with what I record on my 4track recorder. If I just play the .wav file straight from my comp to my 4track via the audio outs of my sound card it isn't completely acurrate to what the file is. Does this make any sense?
Help! How do I MAKE CASSETES INTO CD'S
I am a newbie and I have a Mac G4-466 the new one and I need to convert my cassette collection to cd with the cd-rw in the Mac. Is this possible and how do I do it? I have'nt even burned a cd yt! Please any Mac users help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!
Audio input...
It's easy. All you have to do is plug the audio output from the cassette machine into the audio input of the G4. This will more than likely require a Pair of RCA/Phono ends (cassette machine end) to a stereo minijack. Tandy's/Radioshack sell leads like this as well as most computer shops.
You will need to get hold of an application that records selectively from the computers input and select the external mic in the control strip.
Check out the file area on this site for free applications that will allow you to do this. Get back to me if there is any problems.... Email....

Dear Shawn,
I think that a "soundfont compatible device"is
referring to your soundcard. It should be a Creative Soundblaster
or AWE 64 ,both of which I know will support soundfonts.
Have fun with Vienna and soundfonts, once you get the hang of it
skies the limit.

Equalization while compiling CDs???
For an upcoming class reunion, I have to compile and burn some CDs from a wide assortment of artists and recordings from the 60s and 70s. I would like to be able to control the EQ of each track, so as to make everything more uniform. For example, Three Dog Night recordings are heavily EQ'd (lots of bass and top end). However, Sly and The Family Stone recordings are very flat.
Is there any software that will allow me to control the EQ as I burn each track?
Thanks!
